Alan Parsons was (and still is) a phenomenally talented sound engineer who went to work as an assistant sound engineer at age 18 in 1967 at the Abbey Road studios, and did some fantastic work on The Beatles "Abbey Road" album as well as DSoTM, for which he received a Grammy nomination. He also worked on Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat", and formed his own band in 1975 called "The Alan Parsons Project" which is why you are confused. This song "Have a Cigar" was actually sung by Roy Harper who was hanging around in the studio at the time, and when David Gilmour and Roger Waters couldn't decide on which of them was going to do the vocals, Roy offered to give it a try, and that's the version that made it onto the album.

Roger Waters was originally supposed to sing the song but he had strained vocal cords after Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Gilmour did not want to sing this song. That's why they asked Roy Harper ...

This is one of my fave all time track intros, i can just imagine a sharp dressed 70's dude walking down the street of some 70's gangster film with this playing in the background, ultra cool and funky!!!!! The instrumentation and vocals are amazing!. I was born 10 years after this track came out so i never really listened to till 30 years later in my 20's!

This is one of the things I love about this "Wish you were here" album...the whole album was a the tribute to the founder of Pink Floyd Syd Barrett who sadly been forced out of the band with severe mental problems. "Have a Cigar" is pretty much a recap of Dark Side of the Moon's "Money"....you know big fame and then the down fall. Now at the end of that song we just listened to was a switch to AM radio not a movie. Syd Barrett'''s life was in a "gravy train" you know going on big time stuff but then turned into a blip as gone silent. Lest not forget, the "Dark Side of the Moon" album which not many people will agree was also about Syd Barrett.

I think (and mind you this is just a friendly tip - with all the music you are absorbing it is a near impossible task to keep all this straight!) you are confusing saying Barret as the singer you mean bassist and song writer Roger Waters, as Syd Barret who was for sure the primary founder and lead singer, writer and guitar player founding the band in 1966-1967- who was a musical genius largely responsible for the entire psychedelic rock movement if not at least one of the bedrock key individuals - left Pink Floyd for good, sadly due to rapid deterioration of his mental conditions several years before this recording and all of the other ones you have reacted to. Listen to "Astronomy Domine" off their debut album "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" to hear an awesome song with Syd on vocals and lead guitar. The entire album in 1975 "Wish you Were Here" was specifically dedicated to the loss nd grief the band still felt for him. Syd Barret left them in 1969 permanently. An even deeper dive for :Have a Cigar" of note, neither Roger Waters or David Gilmour even in his prime, felt they could sing the high notes well enough for the maximum quality on this song here, so they brought in a friend -named Roy Harper from the British music scene to sing this one (the only track in the entire Pink Floyd discography they did this). This is one of Gilmour's nastiest solo's in their whole catalogue. Though references to Syd are found in all of their material, none like this album, and on this LP the 2 most direct Syd tributes are the track "Wish You were Here" and the one you hopefully get to really soon "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" maybe their true master work. There is an incredible Syd story related to the recording of "Shine On" but I'll wait until you get to it to share. This kind of stuff just makes the legend of the band even more impressive and intriguing.
