This was an awesome review. Their is nothing you missed at all. AAA review guys keep up the great work. Now I know where to come for excellent Shmup reviews.
The switch is still killing it as always. Another title I won't be able to play for a while but at least with a title like its gameplay will be timeless and limitless.
I will take your solid recommendation as a solid reinforcement as to why the solidity of this solid console should be a solid investment when my assets become far more solid. Sol(i)d!
Stredenn has been in my Steam wishlist for a while, but I passed up on it for more classic or better looking shmups like RefRain. I think I might need to pick this one up! SEE ALSO: NeuroVoider, basically an arena style version of this, with similar visuals and rogue-like mechanics.
The Steam version does not have all of the features that the Switch version has, but Pixelnest is going to patch them into the Steam version in the somewhat near future! No word on the PS4 or XB1 versions though. I assume they will though. We have Nerovoider on both PS4 and Nintendo Switch, and have streamed it twice. It has a sublime soundtrack and some really amazing weapon names!
@@StudioMudprints For real? Thanks for the info, that's the single massive drawback that I saw for this game that prevented a buy. Guess I'm going for the physicial then price be damned!
These are my favorite games. Shmups and atop down games. Just overall arcade games. The best games I own are compilations like snk and taito 1-2! I want these technological wizards to figure out a way for me to burn my PSN digital content onto a disc.
Who knows, maybe Hamster or Zerodiv will collab with different publishers to make arcade perfect compilations for Neo-Geo or others? It'd be neat and we'd definitely double-dip!
Right, "at some point," Which could be any time from now until the end of time. In actuality there are literally any number of other games I'd rather be playing; I'm just trying to be polite.
I've read the game is brutally difficult, to the point of not being fun. "unfair" issues such as all enemies looking too similar and thus it being too difficult to learn how a given enemy might attack
Sorry, but I really feel like this is just another roguelike that doesn't respect the player's time. I found shooting the same spacetoasters over and over with WEAK weapons incredibly dull. Perhaps after dozens of hours better weapons open up, but I won't be around for it. Check out Sky Anniversary instead.
Probably. For me, there's different types of roguelikes. Some have a good hook and build upon your time with the game and then there are games that gate elements purely by time played. Sky Anniversary built upon itself every time I played. I could feel the ship improvements helping my gameplay. Steredenn seems to gate new weapons poorly IMO, and even when new weapons unlock, you probably will still get stuck with the same crap shotgun for your next 3 plays. It feels artificial. I just can't help but feel when simplistic roguelikes come out and lack meaningful progression. To me, it feels like their lack of level design is just an excuse for poor design. I actually enjoy the boss battles and would love to see the rest of the game, unfortunately, there's just too much better stuff out there vying for my time.
The weapons aren;t gated though. You have just as much chance of getting an insanely powerful weapon on your first go as you would on your hundredth. It all reall boils down to skill, not just overwhelming offensive power, especially when playing for score. We made it to game end for the first time in this version, but could have easily done the same in other just by luck of the draw. It's almost like the thrill of a lootbox, but you don't need to pay for it every time. You can also "seed" the game too, which recreates the same conditions of a certain run.
I guess I just prefer a roguelike where there's some semblance of a progression system. I have played the game for several hours and got the same 5 weapons for what felt like 90% of the time. It just never really felt like the weapons had power behind them. I also found the drone system slightly cumbersome and really more of a hassle than it was worth. IDK, I think I'm just disappointed in the loop. Look at a game like Flinthook, while not the exactly the same as Steredenn, it builds upon repeat play. I can't help but feel like Steredenn desperately needs more depth to the gameplay loop or at least a bit less randomness. Like I said, I really like the boss battles the rare times I have a usable weapon and the daily challenge gives me a glimpse of the cool stuff in the game, so its not all bad. Phone ramble done.
The 3-Game collection is on sale for $8.99! (Neurovoider, Steredenn, Transcripts)
Steredenn itself is $5.19
Current sale ends 8/16/20!
An excellent buy 👌
I just missed it :(

Wow, this looks beautiful. Great review as always, Studio Mudprints :D
Thanks! There's definitely never a dull moment in Steredenn!
Wow!! Thanks for the review guys. This looks awesome. I had it on my list but wasn’t sure. Must buy!!
Steredenn is incoming on the switch... uh, tomorrow. That's pretty decent!
Studio Mudprints - I got the physical edition from Super Rare a few weeks ago! Really pumped. This game is addictive.
The switch is still killing it as always. Another title I won't be able to play for a while but at least with a title like its gameplay will be timeless and limitless.
If you have the Steam version, it will be upgraded to the Binary Stars version soon with a free patch!
What a solid review for a solid game. =P
A solid observation, solidly interpreting our solid take on a solidly solid game. Mudprints Gear Solid.

A solid response. SUPER SOL!D, in fact!

Really good review! I got it from twitch for free but I think I'll pick it up on Switch as well. Seems the perfect system for some quick runs
It really is a pretty great game.
Dang that soundtrack in the beginning... Kickass! Edit: not keen on the screen shaking effects though.
The shake can actually be dialed down or dusabled in the options!

Yes this is getting a physical release on PS4!

Can't wait for this update to hit the Steam version
Absolutely!
This video touched my tra la la, oooo my ding ding dong
de-de-de-deep in the night,
i'm looking for some bombs,
deep in the night,
i'm looking for some (ping)
When u guys say "no continues" u mean just for the level right not the whole entire game?
The whole game. When you die, you start from the beginning with stock weapons only, and the game gets randomized again!
It's better than it sounds, not unlike Rogue Legacy.
in the Switch version, can you turn off the shaking screen explosion effect? looks annoying
Yes, in the options you can tone down Screen Shake, or disable it entirely.
So if you die one time, you have to restart all the way to the beginning of the game?? The only way to beat the game is to not die at all?
Yes, but with the life bar and enhancements along the way, players always have a decent shot... with the right skill.
I know I'm late, but will steredenn ever come to andriod.
If it's not there now, it's not looking great.
so it's just an endless shooter, no story/levels at all?
Story no, but levels yes; there is a final boss to the game. It's just the the stages and drops are random every time, unless you use a certain seed.
What about Saint?
Do you have saint?
Studio Mudprints I thought you where going to review it at some point.
Right, "at some point," Which could be any time from now until the end of time. In actuality there are literally any number of other games I'd rather be playing; I'm just trying to be polite.
Studio Mudprints Alrighty then!
I want to play this so bad but I don't have a switch ;_;
No worries; the Steam version (at least) will have the Binary Stars bits added soon!
I hope the PS4 gets the upgrades, too. I'm stuck on the stage 4 boss and could use all the help I can get!
Me too. When the PC gets them, the other condole versions shouldn't be far behind.
Oh nice, I didn't know that!
Also this video was really well done, had to drop that now that I remember
I've read the game is brutally difficult, to the point of not being fun. "unfair" issues such as all enemies looking too similar and thus it being too difficult to learn how a given enemy might attack
I'll be frank; I've never had that problem.
Possible to turn down the soundtrack?
Yes.
Can't stand that screen shaking effect. Turned it off right away in Sine Mora. This trend needs to end.
It really lets you know you've f***ed up though, which I guess is what they were going for.

Heh, that's a pretty ironic comment, actually.
