I'm an old metalhead (headed for 5-0 very soon) and these girls and this group are just FUN! To all the haters, get a sense of humor, why don't you? The band is hot, the girls are cute, and this shit just makes me smile! And not much in music makes me smile anymore. I'd rather listen to this than some maladjusted scumbag croaking like a fucking frog over "speed for speed's sake" metal. And, just think, this band may just be the group that manages to bring metal back to the US. If they turn out to be the "gateway drug" that gets some young 'uns listening to good music again, what's the difference? It's all product anyway.
Well said sir! Some people take it way too seriously. I always find it amusing that self-appointed metal purists are so intimidated by three cute little girls from Japan!! The same people who bemoan the lack of interest in guitar music and the omnipotence of rap etc should welcome BABYMETAL with open arms. The amount of people who have been introduced to metal because of BABYMETAL is huge. I know loads of people who were not into metal at all before discovering them. Most of them are now bonafide metalheads listening to Maiden, Deftones and Rammstein on the reg. So who loses? What are these "purists" so afraid of?!! There are far too many pretentious cunts out there....BABYMETAL FOREVER!!
35 year old metal head here and I love these kids. I mean metal has always been a little tongue in cheek. If someone wants to listen to some incomprehensible Scandinavian stuff recorded in a graveyard and released on a limited run wax cylinder then fair play to them. Inaccessibility doesn't make their music choice any better or worse than anyone else's. This kids make me grin from ear to ear.
Their English is getting way better. At first they didnt know any complex English (Or at least didnt respond in English) besides Yes, No, and some other things. I can hear them using correct pronunciation of English words a lot better than they first started, But i kinda love their broken English, its adorable
I love how Yui can only say "Yes of course I love the UK" in english... she literally never understand a single question, and she always looks like she is bored in every interview xD
Lunar Therian the sad thing is that these girls don't receive the amount of money they deserve.in Japan all these management crooks screw the entertainers.
Mad respect to this group and the effort they put in to learn English just so they can connect with us. Can you imagine doing it the other way around trying to learn Japanese? Difficult right?
hateful comments? I started listening to metal when I was 12. I am 55 now. This is very interesting development in Metal. Its all about creating new varieties. Good luck to these girls. Hopefully Kawai Metal is here to stay.
+shredstylist i really hope so, since the music behind the kawaii is so well done, japanese's musicians are gret executors, maybe not so creative but damn they know how to play some fine tunes, and btw when some asshole criticize the girls, do you even know how much work it is to stage a performance like they do? Wtf, some people should stick to their basement..
+shredstylist : I find it funny how some "real metal fans" are bothered by Babymetal. It's not like they are gonna damage metal in any way, since what they do it's NOT metal. It's certainly something related to metal, but it's a different genre, a pop genre that uses metal sounds. Also, it's pretty obvious that, unlike Tokyo Hotel or some other melodic pop bands that use some rock music, they are not marketed as being serious metal artists. The fact that they acknowledge it's something different makes it totally fine for me. If fans think nowadays metal isn't good, maybe it's because it isn't, and that's not Babymetal's fault. I'm not sure I like the way the japanese music industry handle the idol thing, tho. They are basically TRAINED by the age of 10-12 to perform. It's kinda like boybands or child beauty pageants in western countries, it's hardly something natural. They are certainly talented, but girls that age should maybe live more normal lives, not be treated like workhorses. Do you know the industry puts them on diets, make them gain or lose weight, tell them what to say and how to act, they forbid them to engage in relationships with boys to avoid fans being jealous? They all seem happy and cute, but there's actually a dark side to it behind the curtains. Of couse it's the same with dancers, models or any girl in the world of entertainment worldwide, but the idea being widespread doesn't make it right. It's stuff like that that made talented children like Michael Jackson into alienated adults with issues. And I don't even want to think about the millions of girls who get rejected due to being not fit for their image or those who get kicked out from groups for being too "old" (it happened to Babymetal as well, maybe you don't know but Babymetal is a child band to the main act Sakura Gakuin, a pop supergroup of preteen idols, and the girls actually performed in both bands, at least until Suimetal got kicked out, sorry, "graduated" from Sakura Gakuin due to being 17). Not even mentioning those that have to do sexual favours to producers. I don't think in the slightest that the producers of Sakura Gakuin ever did something like that (they are preteen, for God's sake), but some producers of "older" girls actually do these things. Not that western producers don't as well.
I think Yui may have had jet lag issues way more than the other two, but who knows maybe she's just deep in thought or super nervous....or a combo of all the above.
+paul fabian I don't think it necessarily shyness. I have a feeling her English is pretty far behind Su's and Moa's. I can see when those two are being asked questions in English they generally understand what they are being asked, but Yui seems to have no idea until the translator speaks.
I've been watching a lot of their videos lately, especially the concerts. This band is on fire! The drums, the guitarists are excellent and being a bass lover, that guy on the bass is outstanding. The girls are obviously beautiful but they're more than that. Su has a great powerful singing voice and these girls obviously work really really hard on their show. They are SO tight with the dances and hand movements. I am so very impressed by everyone in this band.
I think they are doing a very good job of speaking English , Not like you can't tell they don't know or understand everything , For three young girls who are Touring the world probably having to learn phrases of different languages. I think they are doing a great job .
Their music is my guilty pleasure. Their songs give me chills the same way power metal does when I listen to their songs. I hope they will carry on for many years to come, as it will be interesting to see how their music will be in 10 years!
I have seen their videos with their commentary and Su's English voice sounds like her Japanese voice by the tone. I think it's great and I love Moa's Engrish.
+HappyAsGosh Yeah they usually only say it to questions that cannot answer but are allowed to be asked in the interview. They can't confirm anything about the future unless the fox god has given them a sign.
I wouldn't say all, but most, yes. Clearly they are in the early stages of learning, so they memorized useful phrases first. They'll probably continue to improve as long as they continue to have so much foreign support.
+erad67 The long interview at 2:22 seems like the only one in which they were actually answering live. All the other ones sound like somebody gave them a script to recite.
I love BABYMETAL! I play them sometimes at work and everybody is like "wtf is this shit?" I'm like "it's BABYMETAL!" They walk away confused and possibly scarred for life lol.
Yep I love Kpop too! I used to play Gee by Girls' Gen when it came out to death! Finally a coworker cussed me out because I got the song stuck in his head at home! Lol WIN! :D
Actually Gee was the first K-Pop song I ever heard and got me into it, as well as Perfume's "Chocolate Disco" was the first J-Pop song I ever heard I'm now addicted to this type of music and getting addicted to BabyMetal :)
Lol Gee was mine too! I crossed over into kpop after discovering Japan's Berryz Koubou and the little angel Momoko Tsugunaga. :D Also the duo known as "W" in the golden age of jpop, Ai Kago and Tsugi Nozomi. They were involved in scandals (especially Kago-chan :( Look up Robokiss if you haven't seen it and be prepared for kawaii overload! ;)
Yea like when I first saw the video all I was thinking about was..."Why are there 9 members!?" lol But now used to seeing that so it's like a normal thing for us fans ya know :) So from there I checked out all their videos they had at the time as well as other K-Pop artists and got Hooked! I'll have to check out those groups you mentioned and definitely diggin this Kawaii Metal ^_^
2:11: Wow, Su-metal really DOES explain Babymetal in English like a boss! Even for her to be good enough in English to know words like "fusion" is pretty impressive. After watching entire video: Wow, nevermind. They're all quiet good at speaking English. Job well done, girls!
Damn! They are FAST learners! Su's pronunciation was two or three years better at the third interview! And Moa and Yui dared to speak more (obviously, that helps to get better)... These girls are true professionals and extreme hard workers. Then again, they're Japanese. I hope they have enough time to rest.
I don't really like the whole babymetal thing, but love them or hate them, they work ridiculously hard, and deserve all the success they get. Together with the musicians, they seem very tight knit - and look like they look after each other well, something other bands should look up to.
Most importantly, at their current status...they are still very humble and not a sense of arrogance. Even their formal teacher in Sakura Gakuin mentioned that they are still the same students (same character) as years back, when he met them after their Tokyo Dome performance. Only top artiste can perform there. His only criticism is that they should act more like super stars, jokingly. All their fans can see their humility that's why we loved them so much.
the fact they always having sort of doubt on their faces like "did i say it right" after they say something in English is so Awesome. it makes more believable & genuine.
Interviewer: "What bands do you want to see live?" Moa: "Ryan who?" (can someone tell me what she said?) Su:"Bling me the Holizon!" Yui:"Gene Simmonzu." This is just fucking awesome!
Patrik Mršić That would've been amazing. They've met almost every other metal heavyweight (still waiting for an Iron Maiden pic :D). I reckon Lemmy would've loved them, and thought it was cool that at their age, they're out there kicking ass in front of huge metal crowds. NOT an easy thing to do, and Lemmy respected hard work. Dimebag would probably have loved them too. Musicians understand because they see how incredible the band is behind the girls. They're some of Japan's elite musicians. Takayoshi even played with Marty Friedman (ex Megadeth member) and Boh is a Bass playing GOD lol
I am 47, and I've been going to metal shows since I was 12. I love all forms of heavy metal music, old school, death metal, metal core, everything in between, from Van Halen to Ozzy to Cannibal Corpse to Emmure, As I Lay Dying, Lamb of God, the whole kit and kaboodle. I was very skeptical about Babymetal when I first saw them on youtube, but I decided to go to their show in New York City last week on a lark. I WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZED at the energy and talent of these women and their backing band. I've since downloaded all their tunes on Itunes and I look forward to witnessing their growth and evolution in the coming years. Avenues for improvement: (1) Take the masks off the backing musicians, put them in "normal" clothes and bring them closer to the audience. (2) Have them do some collaborations (studio and live) with some non-Japanese bands such as Lamb of God. I think that Su-Metal's clean vocals paired with Randy's growls would be absolutely amazing.
"(1) Take the masks off the backing musicians, put them in "normal" clothes" that's IMHO like asking Slipknot to take off their masks, or Kiss to wear t-shirt and jeans on stage...
Su's English has gotten really really good since 2015, from what I've heard she can have conversations in English, and she's grown into a beautiful woman(Who's only 6 months older than me)
Amazing how their English has improved. The Japanese are not noted for speaking foreign languages and those that do speak English usually speak it badly (This si mainly a consequence of the katakana)
I like their music. Good dance moves and choreography and the backing band is pretty solid. It's so different from traditional metal imagery but somewhat familiar even though foreign.
I can't wait for Slipknot, Metallica, KISS, and Babymetal to do live shows together. Dear god, the stage presence alone would just nuke the world in awesome and cuteness.
I feel so bad for them in English interviews because of how incredibly awkward it is. I've noticed it, you've noticed it and you just can't help but feel bad
I don't particularly like their music but you have to give them credit for being able to answer interviews and speak fluently in a language that's not their own
Su is clearly a very quick study and I fully expect her English to go from strength to strength. To be fair to the other two, they would have spent less time studying English as school, but I was a bit shocked that even in a global retail setting like the Sony HQ in Tokyo, the staff asked me to wait until they could find someone who spoke English fluently. You dont have to go far in Seoul to find someone who speaks English and that's evident in the interviews with many of the K-Pop bands. I periodically clash with some of the BM faithful on YT, but there's no denying that they've outlasted the predictions of many of their early critics - interesting times ahead.
+Arthur Watts Same here, I've had similar experiences in Seoul and Tokyo. I feel that the Koreans are more eager to learn English, whereas the Japanese are much more reluctant to do so.
+Grace Berlian Ponar - Main problem is the katakana. The result is that those Japanese who can speak English are often incomprehensible, But Su, Yui and Moa are amazing and in such a short time!!
+Arthur Watts Yes I agree Su's English is quite good and you can see it getting better. What I find odd is that either Moa or Yui have mentioned before that she enjoys studying english and does so regularly, so why is it both Moa and Yui seem to struggle?
why? Do Japanese need to use English? English is not necessary for their performance. Japanese can not speak English, but the Nobel Prize has won a lot following the US. Japan not using the alphabet is a developed country.
They are getting better & better with the English language. It's interesting, i feel like Su-Metal is the focal point & star, but in Japan i'm hearing that Yui & Moa are the most popular. But Su is the preferred member in the U.S.
Man I grew up with iron maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax... all the big boys... and this is, for whatever reason, the first "metal" band that has really gained my respect in maybe the past decade or so. Ive been waiting for metal to blend with other genres for so long now and FINALLY these girls pulled it off. Their vocal skills have a LONG way to go (they are still incredibly young) and Im curious to see how they evolve over time. How insane would it be if they start introducing heavier lyrics and really master that iconic metal scream that we love from Iron Maiden. If anyone can revive the passion for metal in the US and the UK these girls just might be the ones to do it.
Su (Nakamoto Suzuka) is brilliant and always has been. Check out Su singing Asu E No Tobira at 10 years old. It's on youtube. Incredible. Wouldn't it be great if she were to sing that as a surprise at some point in the Wembley, London performance. Just a light unplugged accompaniment with Moa and Yui dancing in a slow weaving pattern around her. I am sure the crowd would love such a surprise.
When I have found this band I was skeptical this band just picked up a poor idea and put average idols in the front, but it has turned out the band and the crew behind them are serious and professional, it is clear they have learnt many things from famous bands before them and also it makes them so great, they are basically mixing together the successful features from metal and idol music. And it turned out Su-Metal is not an average idol at all, she has grown up and her voice and skill just got better and better she is a real talent and basically a real Diva now. I am very exciting what will come next for the band, but I hope they won't change too much, I am not really fan of the current changes (too black and serious outfit and visual), but I hope it is just because of the loss of Mikio and Yui. I think even if they get older they should keep something from the childish, young look. I feel it too early to throw away that direction, they are adult now, but still girls in look so they should not rush the big changes.
I'm an old metalhead (headed for 5-0 very soon) and these girls and this group are just FUN! To all the haters, get a sense of humor, why don't you? The band is hot, the girls are cute, and this shit just makes me smile! And not much in music makes me smile anymore. Interviewer: You want to come back?
Moa: Thank you! :D
Adorable.
Best part XD
Hilary Helena 😭😭 I think she heard him saying I want you come back
They were probably at a lower-intermediate level of English. I wonder how their English is now in 2018? They've most likely improved.
Outstanding! (>_
Their English is getting way better. At first they didnt know any complex English (Or at least didnt respond in English) besides Yes, No, and some other things. +Roy .Eristavi Change your own name.
Lunar Therian the sad thing is that these girls don't receive the amount of money they deserve.in Japan all these management crooks screw the entertainers.
I am pretty sure that is the only line of English Yui could comfortably speak at that time. You will notice they had to cue her when to say it. :)
"We are berry happy" -su
God I love her so much
+Brandon Boyette Onri ze fox god knows how much you love her OvO
METAL_RESISTANCE yeah i know!
I'd fucking love to see Metallica dance to babymetal
+Matt What if Babymetal collaborated with them?
Reyjan Jaudines Same I'd die happy knowing that I've officially seen the greatest collaboration in music history!
I saw a photo today of Babymetal standing around Kirk Hammett as he held up a Babymetal t-shirt. No dance though.
dambreaker Do you have the link to the picture?

They're obviously not fluent in english, but it's adorable to see them try. :)
So cute.......less english, more cuddly Moa is an Godness
When someone asks a stupid question I'll just say "Only the fox god knows"
Mad respect to this group and the effort they put in to learn English just so they can connect with us. Can you imagine doing it the other way around trying to learn Japanese? Difficult right?
I have a feeling Yui Metal doesn't understand whats happening half the time.
+Woozi Hyung More likely she doesn't understand what's being *said* most of the time.

yeah, I am not saying she isn't cute. Just that she can't speak English. :)

+HappyAsGosh Probably not. If they were asked what is the color of your hair it would sound like they were daft.
+ardalla535 it would be a little bit cute, honestly
Joy Wombacher True, it would be cute
Sounds like mostly they have memorized set answers, but they quickly are improving.
apparently their answers are all scrtiped
I wouldn't say all, but most, yes. Clearly they are in the early stages of learning, so they memorized useful phrases first. They'll probably continue to improve as long as they continue to have so much foreign support.
+erad67 Yeah you're right. How else are they gonna learn unless they memorize select phrases and answers that they want to speak? :)
My first Japanese sentence was "Watashi wa kasa desu." "I am an umbrella."
+erad67 The long interview at 2:22 seems like the only one in which they were actually answering live. All the other ones sound like somebody gave them a script to recite.

Their English has gotten so good!! I'm learning Japan in return

Absolutely. They work so hard at this. The performances and the music are so tight. It shows how much effort they put into it
I don't really like the whole babymetal thing, but love them or hate them, they work ridiculously hard, and deserve all the success they get. Together with the musicians, they seem very tight knit - and look like they look after each other well, something other bands should look up to.

These Japanese bands are pretty damn good. Band Maid are especially great. Hot Asian girls rockin it out. It's a win win for everyone.
Cyntia as well, look up dazzle vision the lead sing of that band...well...SHE is B0SS
SCANDAL are scandalously hot as well. Their music is more indie-rock than BAND MAID and BABYMETAL.
Agree, Band Maid, Doll$Boxx, Aldious, Bridear. Love these Jrock
Look up ladybaby and maximum the hormone they're good too
I just love them! The cutest rockers ever!
5:26 "Supah eksaiteeed" OMG I CAN'T
+114Flippy That part is way too cute haha. Also, about Dragonforce - "They ah.. a wondahful gloop" xD
Yui seems to be a bit more shy and nervous in these English interview situations than the other two.
William Perry she doesn't speak much in most interviews, she's the quiet one
So cute 😂
It's important for the 3 to learn in english whenever they are on tour and they are really improving.
They are cuter than Animals. Su is adorable when she speaks!
At 3:31, Yui only has to answer one question in English but she misses the question.
SHE IS SO CUTE
the fact they always having sort of doubt on their faces like "did i say it right" after they say something in English is so Awesome. it makes more believable & genuine.
Interviewer: "What bands do you want to see live?"
Moa: "Ryan who?" (can someone tell me what she said?)
Su:"Bling me the Holizon!"
Yui:"Gene Simmonzu."
This is just fucking awesome!
I think she says "Brian May" guitarist from Queen
+Hatch I Google Ryan Mei. Maybe a little racist but I meant well. :p
Correct. There's even photos of them online, taken together at that event :)
Too bad they never met Lemmy. That's the scene that I would love to see. How would he react.
Takayoshi even played with Marty Friedman (ex Megadeth member) and Boh is a Bass playing GOD lol
you don't ask about the fox god because only the fox god knows
wow their English got better
The engrish is too adorable.
engrish???????
+Arren Lander British English is what he thinks they sound like
しゃべらなくても、
ユイメタル可愛い過ぎ!!
lmao every time they say metallica
I LOVE how Su speaks in English XD
i adore them- not only because of their "emoji" interactions but their talent as well!
su-metal "we r SO, SO HAPPY!" moa "SO HAPPYYY!!" theyre SOOOOOO CUTEEEE
these girls are the most intelligent girls in the show bizz right now... doin great job
AWHHH THEY WERE PROBABLY SO NERVOUS AND PLAYED IT OFF DO WELL I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
THEY ARE SO DAMN CUTE!
Did you know Yui is a big Cannibal Corpse fan?
they quickly improved their english, we appreciate it and we hope baby metal can be one of the iconic metal
did she say bring me the horizon
yes she did!!!
+Marshall Lee Nope! She said "BLING me the HOLIZON"
Bring me the horizon was better when they did deathcore
+Wai-Sun Chia that's hilalious
Her Engrish is so F***KING adorable!!!
Man, even their Engrish is KAWAII!!
they deserve a lot of praise as they are so good.
moa metal so cool
Love how there bringing back metal for a new generation.... 👍👍👍
Any band who gets information via a Fox God gets an A in my book
They’ve grown so much since then :) their English has gotten so good!
su wants to see BMTH that year, and now they're making song together....
Su wants to see BMTH?!> NOO its a trap..Su run run run
Kingslayaaaaa destroying castle in the sky!!!!
They speak english fluent and i could heard well and understood every single word in this interview section.
They're freaking adorable.
"so do you have his phone number"
"I don't know"
lol its so cute
Su's English has gotten really really good since 2015, from what I've heard she can have conversations in English, and she's grown into a beautiful woman(Who's only 6 months older than me)
Get in there son haha
They are so cute :)
they r cute. they seem so shy, nervous, sweet, eager, young, etc.. i almost feel bad for them.
+RaMahOhhlala E-Any couldn't agree more
Amazing how their English has improved. The Japanese are not noted for speaking foreign languages and those that do speak English usually speak it badly (This si mainly a consequence of the katakana)
hiiiiiiii, we are baby metaru~~~~~~~~~
sumetaru desu~
yuimetaru desu~
moametaru deeeesu~~
Best band EVER.
They are speaking good English they are so cool
+ArsonFrost I think they're English gets better with every word they say.
Oh, yes, I think so. And I'm their fan
I hope Dethklok doesn't murmaider them.
Can't see how you could say anything negative about these girls. They're awesome.
Answering Metallica, another reason to love this band
6:37 yui why u so cute
I feel so bad for them in English interviews because of how incredibly awkward it is. I've noticed it, you've noticed it and you just can't help but feel bad
When they talk in unison...I fucking die....so adorable
I don't particularly like their music but you have to give them credit for being able to answer interviews and speak fluently in a language that's not their own
+Lucy O'Donoghue what language besides Japanese do they speak even roughly, much less fluently?
+Lucy O'Donoghue That's not fluent. They could barely pronounce the words.
The Fox God? What does the Fox say?
Yui is so adorable 😫💕
i feel that they use the "only the fox god know" if they dont know how to answer or if they dont want to answer" lol
+Arthur Watts I'll always love them, fuck sheep who just jump on bandwagons for the short period that something is popular.
why? Do Japanese need to use English? English is not necessary for their performance. Japanese can not speak English, but the Nobel Prize has won a lot following the US. Japan not using the alphabet is a developed country.
yui's English is just so cute😻😻😻
babymetal likes bring me the horizon im ded
I love Yui's "Yes of course! I love the UK!"
It's fun to see even the interviewers find them so amusing. This is certainly Babymetal's most adorable videos.
3:22 I love this face expression of Su. Now we can't see it anymore.
They are getting better & better with the English language.
It's interesting, i feel like Su-Metal is the focal point & star, but in Japan i'm hearing
that Yui & Moa are the most popular.
But Su is the preferred member in the U.S.
They're so adorable I'm gonna die 😂
Man I grew up with iron maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax... all the big boys... and this is, for whatever reason, the first "metal" band that has really gained my respect in maybe the past decade or so. Ive been waiting for metal to blend with other genres for so long now and FINALLY these girls pulled it off. Their vocal skills have a LONG way to go (they are still incredibly young) and Im curious to see how they evolve over time. How insane would it be if they start introducing heavier lyrics and really master that iconic metal scream that we love from Iron Maiden. If anyone can revive the passion for metal in the US and the UK these girls just might be the ones to do it.
its so cute when they get confused and they look at eachother like ??? tf
The most brutal high-school girls ever came into metal scene😂😂
Just admit that they are much more metal than any of you when you were at their age.
My older sister said she'll take me to see them next time they preform in the UK!!!! We'll be head banging to their music while were waiting!
their golden era
Listening to Su's cute Engrish can make even the crappiest day just a bit better.
