    Why doesn't it unlock the voltage control in MSI Afterburner for better overclocking????

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  Год назад

      Yeah, that's weird. I don't have that card anymore to test it directly, but I can confirm on the Gigabyte 4080 Eagle OC - you can't enable core voltage control in Afterburner either. I turn it on, but it's grey'd out. Watching Jays video on overclocking the 4090 Strix, he had the ability to increase it by 50mV. I'm not sure if it's card specific or not. If anyone else knows, please comment below.

      @@JohnLCharette It may be that some cards of different brands cannot be unlocked with Afterburnar and you have to use your own software. But here you are using an MSI card. It should work and the voltage should be displayed on the app.

      @ffiber! Interesting. You think it's specific to Afterburner? I'll have to try some other OC software. EVGA Precision is most likely out of date as well because they don't make GPUs anymore. The Zotac software had OC capabilities, but I don't have a Zotac anymore.. hmm.. very curious.

    In any bookstore/stationery store in your city you can wrap any box in that thin and cheap plastic for only 2 or 3 euros, that is not evidence of being a new product, it is the easiest way to FAKE.
    However, all the brands YES they seal the antistatic bag with their own security seal, that is, a type of tape that only they have, and it cannot be counterfeited so easily, for this reason almost no brand wraps the boxes in that plastic. , intead they prefer to seal the static bag where the GPU is stored.

    thing with prof reviews and cards is: if you didnt buy it via shop to test it, any overall statement about coilwhine is to be taken with a grain of salt. if the card comes from msi as a review product, it will very likely be a selected card without whine. i now had 4 different trio cards over the course of 8 weeks. all of them, had terrible coilwhine. the loudest, i ever had on any card. so loud, that i can hear it through the case (thats on my desk) and through my open back headphones. and the whine is always there, as soon as the card draws 80+ watts. this makes the huge cooler a joke. in demand games, the card runs at 68° which is super cool for a 70ti level card while the fans stay a 1180 rpm. but the coilwhine is so loud, that the fans can go up to 1600rpm untill the noises even out and are on the same level

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  Год назад +1

      Oh no, it sounds like you've had some bad luck with your cards. I'm starting to agree that pretty much all 4080/4090s have some coil whine. That being said, none of my cards were sent to me from manufacturers and a good chunk of them were coil whine free. Gigabyte 4080 Eagle OC, Asus Strix 4080, MSI Suprim X 4090, MSI Suprim X Liquid 4090 were all okay.
      I don't follow the exact process of how these cards are manufacturers, but I can guess that they are tweaking the process as they go. They may be using different facilities or parts. Every tweak or change could result in a different coil whine experience.
      I do 100% agree that if a manufacturer sends you a card, it's probably been tested to it's best abilities. Thankfully, my channel is so small that I've had to purchase all my own cards. So, that's a silver lining to my credit card bill ;) Thanks for the input!

      Yes. Slightly higher FPS in games (2-5%). Personally, I don't overclock my cards regularly. I do it for the reviews just to better understand the potential overclockability of a card. Feel free to try the settings. Know that there's a good chance your card will freeze and reboot your system. It's very dependent on the game/benchmark you are doing that determines if your card can handle those settings. In my opinion, it's not worth the time effort and extra wear/tear on your card.

Not looking at overclock potential and might even underclock it since a 4070ti is excellent for 3440x1440 on high settings (and I pay around 400 euro's on electricity). As I understand it, the thermal throttle temp prevents the GPU core temp from going higher than 84, but hotspots do occur throughout the chip which can temporarily spike higher. It's very comparable to a TUF card. It's actually it's direct competitor, in my mind. I haven't tested the TUF 4070 Ti, but my guess is that the thermals are slightly better on the TUF card. But it's also a lot more thick. Does this mean it will perform better? Not necessarily. I believe both are a very similar. I would base it more on looks and warranty than performance between these two. Let me know which you decide.

      I'm using MSI Afterburner 4.6.5 right now. I don't think I've updated it since I created that video. What settings are you using to overclock? I recommend sliding the Power Limit to it's max amount. Then, slowly increase the Core Clock by 25-50mhz at a time.. try it out. With most 4000 series, you can't push it past +150-200mhz on the Core Clock. Then, once that is stable. Start to overclock your VRAM. I usually start at +1000, then do increments of +100. Eventually, it will crash, then you start again and go a bit lower. Let me know if that helps.

      @JohnLCharette  Год назад

      One of my co-workers just bought the Asus TUF 4070 Ti and he loves it. The main difference between the two cards is the design and size. The Gaming X Trio is about an inch or 32mm longer than the TUF card. I think that's the biggest downsize of the Gaming X Trio is the size. I expect a big card when it's a 4080 or 4090, but in a 4070 Ti, I like the smaller versions. So, performance wise, they'll be very very similar.
      I haven't used an MSI Core Liquid 360R v2 but it looks solid. I love that you can spin the top of the water block depending on your case orientation.
      What size case? I wouldn't go any smaller than a mid-sized case, such as a Corsair 4000 or 5000 if you're going with the Gaming X Trio. You can go a little smaller with the TUF card.
      I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching. Let me know which case you decide to buy.
