    THE GHOST ORB:
    First you're probably wondering what the voice in our ears had said. To be honest it was a very hushed whisper, it was difficult to discern. Kris was standing next to the Synagogue...perhaps the voice said "Shalom" lol. Or...just steps away is where a cabin steward had fallen down the stairs during rough seas and died. Perhaps the voice came from him. That ghost is known to say "watch your step" or even touch people's shoulder's to steady them as they go down the stairs. But it's important to note, Kris did not know thisarea of the ship was supposedly haunted. In fact I still haven't told him about the death of the cabin steward. His intuition of being "followed around" was all him.
    So while I am a believer in ghosts, I consider myself a VERY skeptical believer. I never immediately jump to the conclusion "that's a ghost" usually my first thought is something more practical. When I saw that orb, my first thought was "its a large speck of dust floating around". But when I really considered it...I own 6 hours of 4k High Definition footage of the ship...seen it all many times, and never once have I seen speck of dust large enough, or a even a fly, in any of that footage. Not even in the dirtiest of rooms on the ship.
    Could it have been a fly? Yes it's possible, but I highly doubt it was. This area of the ship is located deep down and too far from any place where the fly would get in. There's also no food here, so the fly would have no reason to seek out this area. Furthermore, the orb seemed to disappear before it even got out of sight of the camera.
    So in my mind, what are the odds of finally seeing a speck of dust or a fly RIGHT after my friend and I both hear a disembodied voice on the Queen Mary for the first time? Oddly coincidental during what is already a huge coincidence, the original coincidence being that my friend and I heard the voice just a few steps away from where the Cabin steward had died. Sorry, but that to me is a ghost orb. I just personally don't accept that it was dust or a fly. I wouldn't have included this footage in my update if I thought it was anything other than a true ghost orb.
    I detest the way the ship has been marketed as a "haunted house". People who know my channel know that for 3 years I've been very outspoken about how I wish people would stop looking for ghosts on the ship and just appreciate the Queen Mary's rich history and heritage. And I still feel that way. But when I see a ghost, I'm not going to lie and say "I don't think that was a ghost".

    • @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent
      @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent 9 месяцев назад +8

      You and your friend saw whats known as a Ghost Orb. They supposedly represent ghost or spirits moving around. If you pay attention to dust particles they tend to be fairly uniform in flight patterns. They don't really move around unless wind currents allows them to, and its usually not up, unless it was disturbed and your usually going to see more than one dust particle. Ghost Orbs tend to move around at random and doesn't act normally like dust and tend to disappear at random they usually are by themselves.
      Like you I don't approve the ship being a hunted house. As it tends to devalue the historical importance of the ship. That being said a ghost here or there on the ship isn't a bad thing. All historical buildings and relics likely has some connection with the dead at some point, Queen Mary herself has left enough of a impact that she's bound to have a couple. They should be treated with respect and not as novelties.
      Not surprised to see that your friend and you heard one of them. I remember hearing one in the main hall years ago, They do seem to approach certain people. Maybe its sensitivity, maybe they got curious, the dead were once people as well. Guess the real question is what did you both hear?

    • @SAOS451316
      @SAOS451316 9 месяцев назад +5

      I do think it was a ghost but one should be thorough.
      The voice could also be a technical issue with old sound data. That happens sometimes when a memory card isn't working properly, and if there was some live playback e.g. recording and on a discord call, it could have been played from the camera to your computer and back again. If the call wasn't through headphones on his end though it would be very hard to make a sound seem to be right by the ear. It's a rare problem but I've seen it happen, usually after a camera overheat or when a storage device in it has been left full and overwriting itself for a while. All that said it's usually barely audible and I've never seen it happen live, only when reviewing footage.
      I don't believe much in ghost orbs due to eye and neurological conditions which make such things a common 'rational' sight for me, but that one sure was moving oddly. Whatever it was it sure was a bit spooky.

When I lived there in the 90's, she was already suffering from serious neglect that had not been fixed when I revisited a few years later. You would have thought that the City had a department dedicated to inspection & maintenance of the Queen, and if they did, then maybe that bunch just sat with their fat cans planted on their big office chairs and played video solitaire all day long.

    Imagine if they did this with more old ocean liners. I would kill for a universe where the Olympic was turned into a floating hotel. It's such a shame how there are practically no ships or ocean liners from this era, the Queen Mary is still a marvel to behold

    • @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent
      @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent 9 месяцев назад +5

      If back East can save the SS United States it will be a another large Ocean Liner near her era that can be restored and saved.
      As for the older ones. We can only hope that museums meant to represent them or replica's are built. I would love for someone to re-create the Queen Marys older sibling. RMS Aquitania, which was similar to the Olympic class. Or perhaps the smaller White Star Liners the Britanic and the Goergic that existed the same time. There was also another smaller Liner the RMS Mauretania a smaller Cunard liner which was essentially a Mini-Queen Mary/Elizabith that would make a great candidate for a replica if there was money for it. I point out the smaller ones cause I think once you approach 800 feet it becomes increasingly difficult to keep such large civilian ships in good repair. Even a replica that is non servicable.
      The Aquitania is a 900 footer so I think a ship replica for that size is not manageable or just too expensive to consider. Or maybe its priority. Look at the difficulty people have for Titanic II the primary ship everyone wants to replicate. Although I just think that name is cursed and anything associated with it is destined to fail if either to ensure Titanic never comes back to the land of the living or maybe its the universe trying to avoid another Titanic disaster situation.

    • @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent
      @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@jdslyman I think the reason the Titanic replica keeps failing is that its legitimately cursed. That ships history and reputation is so ingrained in the human psyche that perhaps anything attempting to recreate her is essentially doomed to fail. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a successful replica of Olympic in the future and not Titanic.
      I do think its possible to recreate the smaller ones however. Perhaps not as floating replicas ships but maybe a few as buildings perhaps? All you need is to just replicate the design and build a moat around it to look like its floating.
      To get them to sell is all about presentation.
      For Queen Mary as of right now it seems to be to push what was her intended selling point. That she was a testament to the era of the 30s, the art deco age, and 40s the last of the great ocean liners of that era, a war veteran that gave hitler ulcers >:D we hope and was a last connection to earlier steam liners like Titanic which she had a connection to. Long Beach actually is currently in a good position right now to sell that, given that the city has been expanding its night life and entertainment venues. Its also historically a city of the 20s to 40s and was even visited in the turn of the century by the Great White Fleet. Imagine them tearing down that little village by Queen Mary and setting up a downtown area similar to Disney's Downtown and themed to the 30s or 40s with the Queen Mary hosting concerts or similar inside the ship, and contributing to its down town area near it.
      For the S.S United States its relatively easy. itself should do the same. She's a testament of the United States engineering skill and ship building skills but more importantly. She is perhaps the largest symbol of the golden era of the United States. The 1950s.

      @pukovnikklefeld 9 месяцев назад +1

      To be honest, I'm more angry that there aren't more WW1 warships afloat. By the second half of the 20th century, there were a bunch still afloat, nearly all got scrapped mostly in the 60s and 70s. For example, SMS Goeben, later Yavuz (a massive German battlecruiser) was given to the Ottoman empire by Germany in 1914. She was still in active service until 1973 when they sold her for scrapping. The Turkish government wanted to sell it to West Germany to preserve it as a museum, but there was no interest for old ships at all. A massive shame, as looking at photos it seems to have been kept in good condition until the end, it's just that a WW1 battlecruiser was hopelessly obsolete and had no business in the era of guided missile destroyers.
      SFR Yugoslavia also kept a number of Austro-Hungarian destroyers but scrapped them all between the 50s and 70s.
      I imagine it would also be quite a bit easier to preserve a warship as most of the ship is just painted steel.

      If Queen Elizabeth was still here, the way her sister* is, I'd prefer she was located somewhere far from Queen Mary, preferably Southampton, U.K. or somewhere like that. If they were together in one place, one of the two would suffer not getting the love, attention, and respect that she deserves, while the other would thrive more. Or worse, both ships would suffer and possibly even get scrapped. But it's a moot point, and I sometimes wonder if I don't focus on Queen Elizabeth enough, especially compared to her sister, because of how tragic and goddamn avoidable her loss was.
      *And yes, Queen Elizabeth was probably technically running mate, but she's Queen Mary's sister in all the ways it counts: they were born together on the Clyde, they had the same parents that brought them into this world (Cunard), they triumphed and suffered together. You can go through all of this and still be sisters or brothers without even sharing any blood connection. If we're going to go that far with humanizing these ships, then how can they not be sisters? Sorry for the babbling and the sentimentality, but the Queens just bring it out of me.

This iconic ship deserves many hat tips. At the end of the video, Yes I have experienced over 350 paranormal visits in area of the ship. You must respect all their spaces and they have all there reasons why they stay. This ship has a lot of history and us citizens are very lucky to experience that. I can't wait for the day that she will return all of her fittings to an original look and she will only need a good maintenance schedule. I suggest hiring a former Navy Chief to run the maintenance crew full time. They will get it done properly and on time. After seeing the QE2 in Dubai last week, I decided to fly to California to see the Queen Mary, which I did so today. The Queen Mary is so beautiful and I'm glad to see the ship busy, with lots of options and tours, as well as places to eat. I'm happy to see Long Beach take good care of her now, and have lot's of things to do on the ship. Being able to explore many areas of the Queen Mary was really nice. Seeing both beautiful ships was really fascinating.

    One day I would love the explore the old Docking Bridge on the aft end of the ship, hopefully with all the engine telegraphs and docking helm restored in place. It's such a shame that a magnificent platform is not used for the public to appreciate the scenery, as with the bridge wings.
    Hopefully one day these areas will be accessible once more, or at least the tour groups who truly appreciate and respect the history and operation of such a vessel.
    Once again, a marvelous update video, and I truly can't wait to see what else they have in store for fellow admirers of the old Queen.

    Thanks for the great update Alex…I was reviewing your past videos lately, hoping an update was coming up soon. I’m an example of someone who wants to spend as much time as I can get on Queen Mary when I visit. I’m taking my family on a cruise from San Pedro, CA in February and want to a place to stay the night before. Part of the drawback of staying on Queen Mary is the lack of eating venues. That new cafe is a big help and may encourage us to happily book a night onboard! Congratulations on the huge success of your “Queen Mary’s Pool” video. Positive news about the ship appears to be the void that needs to be filled on RUclips and I’m glad you’re being rewarded for your efforts.

    Love this, thank you. You have previously mentioned a weekend package. Can I suggest you look at how Burgh Island Hotel in the UK does this. It’s an Art Deco hotel on an island and they do weekend packages where guests dress in 1920’s and 1930’s fashion. There’s live music, dance lessons, gala evening and is a huge money spinner with a wait list on occasion.
    Keep up the great work and hope they listen to your advice, especially about the handrails!

      I can tell you from experience…being on the Queen Mary is a different experience from seeing her in pictures. There are no square corners on the ship…the ships design is so fluid and embracing, you feel the hand craftsmanship all around you. It’s so unique. I hope you have a marvellous experience. We found the hotel staff extremely accommodating and helpful too if you end up spending the night. If they know you are a fan they will try to give you the best room to match your expectations. They did for us.

    I Only spent one night on the Queen Mary back in December of 89. Paranormal or not, the entire ship literally „talks“ to you about all the history of voyages. You can’t help but wonder how many people peered out the porthole coming into port. The only similar experience I had was walking down one of the old hallways at the Hotel Del and see a photo of the first electrically lit Christmas Tree and so many historical photos.

    Hey Alex! Right before I stayed at Eisenhower suite (just recently) I'd heard that by checking underneath the drawers there could be written messages from years ago. I found two very interesting ones. One had a caricaturistic drawing of a smoking man's profile with a signature and dates starting with 1950. Second one was a writing in memory of someone's father who traveled on Queen Mary during her troopship days.

    Great channel Alex, very informative. I’ve always been a fan of this ship, especially since I lived in Long Beach from 1983 to 2000. I remember visiting it together with the Hughes Flying Boat. I also remember having Sunday brunch at the restaurant that was towards the stern of the ship (tourist lounge?) with the circular wall and windows facing the aft end. I still remember how regal of an experience that was. So glad the city has taken back ownership and stewardship. Please keep up the good work.

    It's so wonderful to see that gracious lady beginning to look her old self again. I detest when people market a true icon and historic place (be it land, sea or aero-related) for entirely their own gain, rather than reinvesting in keeping that place in the state that draws people in to appreciate it.
    In the case of the QM, she had so many incarnations and did so many great things over her maritime career that she deserves to be preserved in kind, perhaps with rooms or areas designated to preserving the pieces of the past in the era most relevant to them, with the default being her original design - ie: where nothing else takes precedence for historical preservation. Keeping the lady alive as a link to the grandeur of ocean travel a hundred years ago and the evolutions of her past as they happened, is a unique treasure that has been lost for so many other great denizens of the era. It is this that makes her all the more special and the preservation all the more necessary.
    The fact that she carries some other windows to the past in the form of previous passengers / crew who remain onboard to this day, is a curiosity and although it adds to her mystique and character, these should not ever be the sole focus of her continued existence. To do so just belittles and erodes the ship's true heritage. The people who remain on her do not like being "hunted" either, which is why anecdotal interaction is largely only ever reported in accidental encounters such as experienced by you and your friend. The ship has a legacy to be respected.

    I am glad there is someone looking out for this grand old lady of the sea. Restoring her to her former glory is the best idea i have heard in a very long time. This is an era of war and unrest yet people with money sailed in these beautiful ships until they are retired then they are sold off for scrap or they are left to rot and deteriorate to the point where they are no good not even for razor blades. Although there are passenger liners still in operation all over the world for spring and summer cruises to places of paradise there are also cruises in the winter too to glaciers and Fjords Alaska to see the whales and other northern climates. They are top quality cruises on very grand liners of today with the price tag to match. People today can rarely afford such luxuries when it comes to spending money it is either food in your belly or a roof over your head. People would rather not shop till you drop in boutiques with very highly priced merchandise. Having a ship like this open to the general public as a museum is great but people who like the history of the Queen Mary and all she did during the war sending troops to war zones. The Ghost stories go with every ship, there is always someone willing to spin a yarn about old some one's ghost still walks the halls and the estate rooms on board. I am married to a sailor have been for over 30 years, i have heard stories more than once, My Sailor served in a couple of war zones in the Middle East and the Adriatic. There are plenty of tales to be told on every ship. Ships have creeks and stuff happening all the time when its dark on the ship and all you have is flash light it can be very spooky haunting are a dime a dozen when it comes to old ships like the Queen Mary. i believe there are ghosts but in spooky setting especially at night your mind can play tricks on you. for instance who said ghost only appear at night if they are dead they can be up all the time roaming around corridors a cool breeze can just be that and a warm breeze could be just that if the hair stands up on the back of your neck it could be a ghost or it could be something else entirely. Saying the Queen Mary is haunted, what better way of attracting people to find out for themselves especially in October when the witching hours begin. The Queen Mary should be as she is a grand old liner still in operation after all these years Restoring her to her former glory is the only way i want to remember her as not a ghost ship. It is an era of grand opulence stunning estate rooms entertainment restaurants beautiful ice sculpture at supper long gowns and dressed up to the nines meeting the captain having your photos taken with the captain there is no captain aboard the ship any more just business men and women. selling things at exaggerated prices that people cannot afford. Function are good business for hotels but if you are there for the ocean liner experience you wont have that same feeling, the feeling you are on the cruise of your dreams. Thank you for the update, i look forward to hearing and seeing the next video. Till then stay safe.
