      Both the OVA and Victor variety of YC technology are from 1989. But as far as readily available S-VHS technology and the English dub concerns... maybe... 1993?

    How does the image compare to modern displays? Is it somehow, sharper?

    • @DarthVaderBater
      @DarthVaderBater  Год назад +8

      Actually opposite. CRTs give off a softer/more natural image. Movies & anime made when CRTs were the main displays tech almost always look better on a CRT. Movies at the time were not designed w 4K in mind etc.... John Carpeters The Thing is terrifying on VHS for example & less so on a 4K UHD disc....

      @@DarthVaderBater i know they are different and stuff, but then how does crt achieve sharper image on stuff like games like Mario n stuff. The. For the answer :)

    • @DarthVaderBater
      @DarthVaderBater  Год назад +1

      @@minerforjob32 has to do w way game was designed. Not designed for a fixed pixel structure display

    • @CrossingRover
      @CrossingRover Год назад +4

      @@minerforjob32 Even in games, the CRT does not produce a sharper image. Technically you could say a modern display is the “sharpest” image for retro games. The issue is that it makes everything look like Lego bricks.
      Even in 8 bit games, you weren’t supposed to be able to see individual pixels. CRTs don’t have pixels in the technical sense, meaning the edges of the pixels kind of blend together making it look less blocky.
      I think a perfect example are all the modern artwork and toys of the 8 bit Mario sprite from Super Mario Bros. He’s always depicted as being made out of square pixels with clear lines between them. A CRT would make him look a lot more smooth likes A cartoon and you wouldn’t see individual squares of color.
      Basically the people who made these games and anime knew that the CRT would blur and smooth the image so they designed things with that in mind. When you put them on a modern display it becomes “sharper” but that may be a bad thing.
