  • Today I’m doing a simple but gorgeous “Ribbon Pour!” It doesn’t use silicone oil - instead, it uses layers of paint stacked in a cup to create lovely ribbons of paint on a white background.
This painting was part of my 31-Paintings-For-The-New-Year series, to demonstrate many of the incredible techniques you can use in fluid art - great for beginners and experienced painters alike!
My paints are mixed with floetrol (~2:1 floetrol to paint) and thinned with water. Paint-mixing video is here! • Mixing Paint for Acryl...
Dark Navy (Blickrylic phthalo blue and Apple Barrel black)
    Caribbean (Apple Barrel)
    Metallic Blue (Sargent)
    Metallic Teal (Blick studio acrylics)
    White (semigloss house paint)
White base coat (Sargent and Apple Barrel)

Beautiful!!do you put anything in your house paint?what brand of house paint do you use?

My house paint is mixed just like another regular color - though it doesn’t need quite as much floetrol to get it to flow! I use ColorPlace semigloss from Walmart because it’s cheap and works well.

Hi! Is your base paint house paint too? Thanks!

Hi! I guess I should have specified in the description but NO, my base paint had been pre-mixed and was probably a mix of Apple Barrel and Sargent white paint, mixed the same way with floetrol and water but to a thinner consistency.

Is floeterol and apple barrel pouring mix the same thing? I'm not getting any cells. I didn't add water though. Is that what I'm missing for making cells?

While they both fall into the category of “pouring medium,” they are not the same! Different pouring mediums will affect your paintings, the cells, etc.
I like floetrol because it is naturally reactive! Floetrol and some water might be the thing to make the natural cells. Metallic paint can also help.
