    Great job in taking the resin apart and back engineering the device internal workings.

  • @Basement-Science
    @Basement-Science 4 года назад +11

    Last time I tried to take apart some resin like this, baking it worked quite well, it became soft AND cracked in many places. I think it depends however. If there is a lot of unreacted chemicals in the resin from the manufacture, this probably works well.
    I didnt use a normal oven though, instead I used a 400W mercury vapor lamp with the UV protection envelope removed and a reflector. This was heating and irradiating the resin a lot with IR, visible light, lots of UV-B and a bit of UV-C. The wooden table also became black at the surface from all the heat. I always heated it, then peeled off some chunks that became soft, then re-heated and so on, until eventually the last bits were completely dry and hard again. But by that time almost everything was removed. The electronics were relatively undamaged and I was even able to read off some values and the markings on a PCB inside.

    • @Mark1024MAK
      @Mark1024MAK 3 года назад

      Yeah, of all the electrical and electronic bits I have collected over the years, a 400W mercury vapour lamp is not one of them. The nearest I have is a 100W sodium lamp...

    • @Basement-Science
      @Basement-Science 3 года назад

      @@Mark1024MAK Well there should be plenty of old mercury vapour lamps being decommissioned since lots of factories are replacing them with more efficient solutions. I bought that one on ebay. Still need some nice sodium lamps though..

    Just a quick safety tip: always put the sodium hydroxide in the water, and never the other way around. To understand why, try to visualize in slow motion the first drop of water that would touch the sodium hydroxide, it would be a microscopic quantity of water in contact with a big amount of sodium hydroxide, thus it would be highly concentrated and could react violently.
    The other way around, the first flake of lye in contact in water would be dissolved in a "massive" quantity of water.
    My dad decided one day to put the sodium hydroxide flakes directly in the drain and then pour boiling water on it, it made a geyser and his slippers still bear the traces of this experience.

    • @minazulkhan8287
      @minazulkhan8287 4 года назад +3

      may be because voltage in its natural form occurs in dc form
      .the 50 hz ac we receive at home is because it easy to send current in ac form without much losses while dc current heats up the element due to heat loss ...secondly we need some circuit/mechanical mounting to produce ac oscillations no such thing in batteries . sinusoidal/ac waves can be produce from battery using proper ckt . where sinusoidal wave oscillate between - and + pf battery

  • @REVERSE_BIAS
    @REVERSE_BIAS 4 года назад

    Can you or someone explain the direction of conventional current flow in the auxiliary winding at 11:26 please. You said the voltage built up supplies even more current to the base of the transistor, via the diode and 24ohm resistor.....so is conventional current flowing from the bottom of the winding, to the top dot, towards the base, out the emitter, and down to the negative rail? It's just confusing because the polarity is marked the same as the primary winding, which made me assume it would be moving from the dot, to the bottom of the winding. Many thanks.

    • @Mark1024MAK
      @Mark1024MAK 3 года назад

      The primary is “consuming” current, but the auxiliary is generating current. So it flows into the dot (positive) end of the primary. But flows out of the dot end of the auxiliary winding. And yes it flows as you described it, going from the auxiliary winding, through the base-emitter junction, to the negative rail then through the diode, through the 24R resistor and back to the auxiliary winding.
