Why is it that no one has considered the councils policy to stop routine clearance of road gulley pots. These concrete castings lie under every metal road drain and bloke up with road grit. The council used to clean them out every year and often used private contractors who have the specialist vehicles to pump them clear. A colleague who works for one council told me his manager stopped the routine cleaning didn’t renew contracts and only clears drains when flooding occurs. This means during exceptionally heavy periods of rain the roads have no chance of clearing water and flooding will be unavoidable. This flooding is caused in his opinion as a direct result of council cut backs.
I think that must be lots of places. Where I live, the drains absolutely stink in hot weather. They never used to but for about the last 15 years it is like smelling stagnant water when the heat hits. Luckily we are on a slope so the rains go to the nearest river which is tidal.

I spoke to a ranger about our drain needing to be 600mm instead of the 9 inch. Was told the drain is working as intended and would not be changed
