TIF Procedure helps people living with GERD

- People living with GERD have a few options when it comes to treatment. Lifestyle modifications, like changes to one’s diet or sleeping with the head of the bed inclined, may help some people. Medications can also treat and help alleviate some of the symptoms.
Ultimately, though, reflux disease is a mechanical problem. If the sphincter muscle at the lower end of the esophagus relaxes at the wrong time or is weakened, then stomach acid can back up into that passageway. Many patients may require a surgical procedure to repair this.
For some of these patients, Cleveland Clinic Martin Health now has a less invasive option available: the Transoral Incision-less Fundoplication, or TIF procedure.

Glad I looked up medical procedures to cure GERD today, now I need to see if there are any specialists who know how to do this TIF surgery nearby.

I have been dealing with this disease for sooooo long. It doesn’t matter what I eat or drink, it just comes right back up 😝🤦🏽♂️. The consistency of burping all day and feeling bloated and now the heartburn feels worst. This procedure feels promising. Please put your story after your procedure 🙏🏽
I just burp alot
Drink warm water in the morning before breakfast during the day it may help, it’s definitely helped me but not always but it’s worth a try
I had both surgeries back in 2021 & unfortunately, I still have the exact same symptoms. I went back to my GI doc & did a ph balance test. It shows that I still have severe reflux. I asked her why when I had 2 surgeries & she said that sometimes there is a 1% chance that this surgery does not work. I didn't even work out or lift anything that I was not supposed to. She gave me carafate & it's been a month on this meds & it is still not helping. She wants to do another bravo test and/ or repeat the surgery and have the band tightened. UGH Thanks for reading,
@@isellorganic so did you have to have another surgery?
My TIF Procedure was done 5 months ago and symptoms are back up to 30%. In another 6 months I think 100% symptoms will be back and TIF will be past failed experience. Just note, I took all medicines given by dr.
I simply do not want to have Nissen! It’s scary
Is this new procedure for helping people with GERD, widespread throughtout the U.S., now?
I've lived with this disease for ten years. I've been drinking acv for one year.I wish I could get this TIF in Nairobi
Why are you drinking ACV with Gerd? You don’t have an acid problem it’s a mechanical issue. More acid creates more acid. That’s a bunch of snake oil, internet garbage, home remedy.
Am also from Uganda asking myself where I can get tif from sometimes life is not fair, we need this technology all over the world.
How much has the acv really helped?
Wish that they have like this procedure in the Philippines..I'm suffering from gerd cause of 2-3cm hiatal hernia and this ruined my life and everything
Tell me about it ... GERD is a major factor for why I hate my life, medications for acid reflux barely work these days. Unless you count them making me constipated as "working"
I just had my TIF from 6 years ago undone because it was so terrible. They fixed the hiatal hernia I had and reversed the TIF. I would recommend just having the hernia fixed and stay away from the TIF. It was the worst thing I ever did.
Hello... what was the reco of your gastroenterologist? My gastro said that there is no funduplication here, but with respect to hiatal hernia, there are thoracic surgeon that can do that. I think in some countries, they fix this by sewing the muscles that came loose because it is weakened..
Not sure why your gastro didnt reco you that option. Unless there are some other factors regarding your hernia. Is it a sliding hernia?
@@katherinecheng9360hi can you tell more infor about this? How is it different from nissen, and is it offered in the Philippines?
Is this procedure available in Canada?
How long does it take one hour of procedure
Is there a way to promote this procedure all over the world including Africa, just asking many people are suffering from this across the world.
Is it same like Gerdx ?
Because of GERD, I feel now I live in Hell, I can't eat delicious foods. My life now become Black & White.
I’m going through the same thing . I have a horrible cough and feel like choking. I went to see my gastro today and going to do an endoscopy. I had to change my diet .
I burp alot , i was diagnosed with hpylori last year in april or may ,it went away after treatment. Then the same year in august i woke up burping alot and been burping since. I went to get a hpylori test and it came back negative. The doctor said i have gerd, i never even had heartburn in my life. Im very active. He prescribed me omeprazole for 2 monthsand said i will be better in 2 months .😅 its been 3 months and i still burp alot especially when i wake . I burp after i eat anything healthy. Thats why i want to get another test for hpylori
@@bikerdude6119 ppi like omeprazole won’t solve the resolution for GERD. It is just for temporary relief. If you can manage your GERD with food modification, that’s good. If not, a surgical procedure might be a better alternative.
@@johnhence5291 i went to a GI doctor 2 weeks ago and he said i may have aerophagia and it was caused by stress. The time i started having symptoms i had an issue with my son missing school and i got extremely frustrated ,,extremely...
That night i had a sharp pain on my side and i went to go poop and went to sleep still mad. He doesnt live with me so you know how that is, but his MOM expects me to try and fix him when he doesnt live with me. Anywayss,, the doctor reffered me to therapy and said if that doesnt work along with a fomap diet ,to come and see him. I do know for a fact it had something to do with that night bevause the next day i started burping when i woke up. I had no acid reflux or heartburn so thats why he didnt want to put a camera inside me.. hopefully i get to control my stress better because if not im quitting my job and moving states for good to start all over again from scratch
I definitely don't recommend TIF. I have to have my stomach removed because of the complications from TIF, the fasteners and scar tissue. TIF failed within 3 months and the revision only made everything worse. I have seen 4 surgeons and every one of them said TIF is the worst option for gerd. Get multiple opinions before surgery. Bariatric surgeons are also great for gerd.
Thanks for suggestions.
@kevinbuff
Where did you have your surgery?
I wish incould get this surgery 😪
With that procedure the problem I guess is you are not able to throw gases out because the esophagus end up protruding into the stomach.
Price in Australia?
Is this performed in Europe?
Yes in UK
What's better , the tif or lynx
I think linx if you dont have hiatal hernia(?).
Based on my own research on google, fundoplocation is usually done if there is the presence of hiatal hernia. Some people who undergone funduplication has some effects that they were not comfortable.
Linx on the other hand is just for LES that's not closing properly, and no other physiological issues present on the upper GI tract.
My recovery is doing good
did u did the surgery .. is you doing good !?
@@dadaboii07 yes I had the surgery and am doing great.
How long ago did you have the surgery and did you have a hiatal hernia or just gerd?

I have a Hiatal hernia. I had TIF surgery & the Nissen fundoplication on Nov 18th 2021. It is now 4 months since the surgery. Sometimes if I eat pieces that are to big I will throw up. I had the TIF procedure and it ruined my life. It was by far the worst decision of my life. I have been in much more pain and discomfort since the procedure and I am finally getting in undone. I would not recommend this procedure to anyone!
Sorry to hear that...my 3 years old have been suffering with that & so far medicine is not helping at all. He is only surviving on a formula still vomits a lot . Our life is like a hell. Doc said if we do surgery & in case it makes it worse .we can't undone it anymore. We are clueless 😭
@@tamannaafroz5408 I am very sorry to hear that. I had a hiatal hernia that was never diagnosed. For 20 years they gave me PPI meds that did nothing but completely destroy my digestive system. I finally had the TIF done but they did not repair hernia. The TIF failed like many of them do. Do the research on how many TIFs fail. After just repairing the hernia and reversing the TIF, I feel completely normal, no symptoms at all. I would get multiple opinions if possible and see if there may be a hiatal hernia. Also look into food allergies causing inflammation.

I hope you find the answers you need very soon. So sad a 3yr old has to deal with this condition. Good luck.
We did his allergy check & its negative but found his hiatus hernia but its very very tiny . Doc said this hernia is not affecting him at all. @@tamannaafroz5408 I wish you the best!- One last note.. - my surgeon and other doctors did not believe my reflux symptoms were a result of the hiatal hernia either - UNTIL I MADE THEM FIX ONLY THE HERNIA AND ALL MY SYMPTOMS WENT AWAY IMMEDIATELY.
I saw 6 or 7 gastro specialists and surgeons over the last 15 years and none of them noticed the hernia or more recently thought the hernia was the cause of my symptoms, they all said the reflux was a separate issue. Even my recent surgeon that fixed my hernia wanted to put me back on PPI meds and also perform a partial Nissan Fundoplication while fixing the hernia. I said NO WAY, please just get me back to my normal anatomy I was born with. He was open minded but hesitant to do this. They reversed the failed TIF and repaired the hernia, I am back to completely normal anatomy now. WOW - I have no symptoms at all. None, I feel wonderful and it only took 20 years of doctors telling me I was wrong, I have nothing wrong, just take these pills!
@@mikeroth3059 i totally feel u . 😔 so far we consult with 3 GI specialist & nobody did anything except giving PPI med & amino acid based formula & just told us to sit tight it will be ok slowly when he will grow up. But it starts when he was just 7 months old & now getting worse day by day . We gave a thought on fundoplication but as it irreversible we are scared to do so. We did lots of test all shows mild reflux but we know it severe that hurt my poor kid so much . He can tell us how much his tummy hurt , throat hurt & burp stuck . His words just make me feel helpless mom! Would u mind to tell how big was ur hernia? We did check 2 years back & that time his hernia size was quarter centimeters. Now we have to retest again to see the condition now
To me this makes no sense. A Nissan Fundoplycation is simple. It is even fast for the surgeon. This system just looks like lots compared to the Nissan. If you look up surgeries and their long term outcome. Long term it is one of the best surgeries over time. Very few failures and it is simple not complicated. Yes I can not vomit. But I have never needed to go get my stomach pumped because I ate poison. Look at a video and the Nissan is simple and effective. If your are sick you go through the motion of vomiting but nothing comes out and the surprising thing is you get the same relief as if you purged. There is no difference except there is no mess.
I had Nissan fundaplication does not effective me.
