To address the Twitter criticism, the video is titled 'Why Hoyeon is attractive to a Western Audience,' not to a Korean audience or an East Asian one. She fits Western beauty standards and the West is a melting pot of different racial groups and ethnic features. Twitter incorrectly strawmans this into suggesting that the video is fitting her to Eurocentric beauty standards which is incorrect. Eurocentric standards prefer features closer in shape and size to the Eastern Beauty standards, so that is false. A personal favourite comment of mine: 'She's hot because she's hot... now stop????' "She can't be attractive if she's not white" That is not the message of this video at all. There are plenty of WOC models much like her for IMG and Wilhelmina with the exact same features but of native american or south asian ancestry, we've even done an interview with one of them. The focus is not on her skin colour but her facial features, which unsurprisingly are not exclusive to a particular race. Having 'wide cheekbones' and a 'well-formed jaw' cannot be claimed by a particular race, and the message certainly isn't that shes attractive exclusively for fitting a certain beauty standard. Rather, her look is unique from what we've come to see of Korean actressess (from a Western perspective), as these facial features are rarely cast for the reasons given, and are opted for a softer, cuter looking face by directors. I'm happy that we're seeing a fresh new set of faces. Twitter likes to use a lot of words out of context, because it's an echo chamber of misinformation: 🌑 Eugenics: a set of beliefs and practices that aim to improve the genetic quality of a human population, historically by excluding people and groups judged to be inferior or promoting those judged to be superior. No where in the video, or ever on the channel does it promote excluding less attractive people, people with disabilities, those with deformities or significant disadvantages in social and dating environments. Every video, right from the very first has highlighted the psychology behind why as humans, we discriminate based on looks, to raise awareness of the double-standards that exist in our society. From the very first beauty culture videos discussing ethnocentrism and its impact on beauty standards: ruclips.net/video/dzqM0e09CZc/видео.html To acknowledging cross-cultural similarity in beauty standards between Sengalese tribes and Scottish Immigrants: ruclips.net/video/Q2afARZAiLI/видео.html This channel has always been as inclusive as possible, and virtually every beauty standards video or discussion on beauty, includes as many different geographical regions and ethnicities as possible to fit in a 10 minute format. 🌑Phrenology: Phrenology, the study of the conformation of the skull as indicative of mental faculties and traits of character. One of the first, the very first things you learn in first-year psychology is differentiating the outdated methods of phrenology as proposed by Franz Gall, from modern-day psychology practice. The definition of phrenology refers specifically to the attribution of mental characteristics, where originally, Gall believed that the shape of the Neuro-Cranium (the part that houses the brain) was influenced by how much you used certain aspects of your soft-tissue brain to push the skull outwards in those regions. This is very far from modern-day anthropometry (the science that defines physical measures of a person's size, form, and functional capacities). In other words, anthropometry is an actual branch of science you can find in your local anthropology department in your local university, whereas phrenology is an outdated practise based on in-tanglible evidence (i.e. thoughts, mental ability). 🌑This channel is racist/fethishizing/fatphobic No one on our team, in the entirety of the qoves team, is a straight white male (that should not even have to matter, but twitter's facts are wrong, big surprise). From the start of the channel, as a POC myself, all we've done is focus on increasing inclusivity in discussions of beauty. In the past our company has produced AI that addresses the issue of black and brown skin tones being discriminated against by machine algorithms to improve fairness (qoves.com). We've worked on skincare that specifically caters to under-represented skin tones and ethnic groups, we've covered beauty standards from South Asia and East to show the differences in how they address beauty, we did our research exhaustively for those videos, much like any other. There is an element of beauty that is subjective, and a part that is objective, much like with all things in life. There are certain design elements in a car that make it more striking, or 'sporty' than a Kia Caravan, and designers call this a design language (Donut Media: ruclips.net/video/2w9Ae44iWUA/видео.html). The same can be said for faces, as plastic surgeons, anthropologists, psychologists, dentists and orthodontists have known since early antiquity. As covered on the channel, certain traits can give a face a more 'neotenous' or child-like look, compared to those that give it a sophisticated and 'high-fashion' look. You know this, I know this, Tiktok covers this extensively, so why the double-think in saying that beauty is purely subjective? 🌑 Race Science What the hell is race science??? I must have taken the wrong degree.
Well for what it's worth, yall gained a new subscriber since I'm not one to critique something without looking into myself & I could tell from the first minute of the video (as I suspected admittedly since I don't trust virtue signalling tweets) that this channel was legit & being slandered. Hope yall get even more!

@@wildhearses Yes me too but what is so different about Park Bo Gum is that he has very small facial features but his body is huge despite being slander. Huge shoulders and hands and legs. Quite rare to see in Korea. He’s soft yet masculine.
@@McFlashh I would even argue that Tae is one of the more masculine BTS members- he has a really handsome nose and a strong-ish jawline... Jimin is probably an obvious pick for a more "pretty" member but I think Suga and Jhope are both weirdly beautiful- maybe because they have rounder faces and daintier noses. I've always thought it was ironic that suga acts like the toughest member but is maybe the 'prettiest'....
In Asia, her face and beaurty would be considered strong. Different Asian countries tend to prefer softer, gentler and kinder structure of faces. She's the type of face that will be cast for serious or action roles, sharp and modern couture, and rarely for those Kdrama, love centric roles.
Honestly, most Chinese and Japanese models look like Jeong Ho yeon or are prettier. So Chinese and Japanese people don't think she's very pretty. Certainly, the standards of beauty in the West and the East are different.
Honestly she's an extremely beautiful woman in general, but the haircut/hairstyle she had in Squid Game? That's definitely what did it for me. It complements her (gorgeous) facial features so perfectly, I couldn't take my eyes off her. Obviously she's still stunning with long hair or other haircuts in general, but it's just not the same.
Unpopular Opinion: She's a above average looking asian woman to be honest, I don't know why people are hyping her up so much, there's countless of asian models on her level or above that.
In my opinion she has the same sort of attractiveness as Zendaya. They’re both tall, striking, with a masculine/feminine balance, and look amazing with “no makeup”, messy hair, eyebags etc lol. The cool tomboy-ish look, but also beautiful and feminine at the same time.
@cinamonrollcutie 2 The best part is, her success is probably gonna go even higher! How great is it to know it is possible and might happen to some of us? :D
SAME!!! Love seeing that she's still so beautiful even with eyebags. I think they add makeup for the dark circles, but still, it's nice to see that in the media :)
Yow yow this has been on My mind However the Eye bugs part not so much , Her face i feel like it is just so similar to mine despite me being male looking at her makes me Love my Face unlike other models who make me insecure or feel less which is so amazing
She actually is the reason i watched Squid Game. She's a good actor, and very pretty aswell! I feel like her having both feminine and masculine features in her face, made her much more attactive!
@@whiteydiamond You just watched an entire video dissecting a woman's looks in detail but are creeped out by the mention of her lips? Sure. Look, I'll even rephrase my statement for you. Her lips are obviously nice and the fact they didn't mention them in the video took me by surprise.
@@whiteydiamonddamn, using your time to hate on people who finds someone pretty? i don’t think you have the right to call us incels when you’re using your time for something as stupid and immature as that.
To me, her most beautiful feature is her iconic lips. I've never seen anyone with such beautifully shaped lips other than princesses from Disney movies!
Personally I always loved her eyebags, I’ve always been insecure of my own eyebags, but seeing her have them so visible in so many of her pictures, from runway modeling, to in the show, it really makes me feel better abt having visible bags myself
she is a handsome woman. she could be very androgynous if she wanted to and it’s very beautiful. i think women can have masculine beauty just as men can have feminine beauty.
I mean the video spent much of the time talking about how the classical Hollywood/Western beauty standard for women is quite masculine (ex Margot Robbie which is often described as old school beautiful)
hoyeon has really boosted my confidence in terms of face shape, cos like as an asian the standard is like what Qoves said, a more oval face. And so, to be able to see such a gorgeous and talented person such as hoyeon, who is asian and has a similar face shape to me (the often looked down upon in asian beauty standards, square 0-0), I really feel comforted by her. also keep up the good work Qoves!
Men can be more feminine and women can be more masculine presenting because everyone’s different and not one gender is going to have all of the same features so that doesn’t change their gender. I feel like that makes no sense lol
The mix of male/female dimorphic characteristics definitely makes her face memorable. I haven’t seen Squid Game yet but there also seems to be a halo from her character, guessing she must’ve been a badass lmao. Her lips immediately catch my eye and her eyes look so fierce due to the positive tilt but the other neotenous features evens it out. Her skin also looks incredible. Very striking and memorable. Also agree with other comments saying that her shorter hair looks much better than the longer hair imo.
@Laaiba it’s all funny until you realize fashion is a billion dollar industry and their not about to put anyone on those runways until they’ve done all the proper research in what makes the most attractive people attractive. There’s a sweet science to EVERYTHING.
More than just this, this video taught me to embrace my own masculine facial structure which I hated at first. The irony is that I love people with strong facial structures. Well it's time to start loving myself too
I feel like she's kinda similar to Captain Levi, a million girls simp him even though he's 160cm which in normal case would mean they wouldn't even spare a glance at him, but then you put in the cut-throat, dangerous, skilled traits in the mix and it kinda amplifies their original charm. I don't think this girl would've gotten so famous if she had been playing another character and not been portrayed as badass
Ooo would love an episode on Takeshi Kaneshiro’s face. He’s a Taiwanese-Japanese mix & he looks unusually ethereal, especially in his younger years. Now that he’s 47, he still looks unbelievably good in such an effortless way. I really can’t put my finger on what makes him attractive but maybe Qoves can.
Love her lips and I think she naturally has big lips because on Korea's Next Top Model she had the same lips I found her look like really striking and different that's what drew me to her
It's amazing how people just dismiss this analysis but it's interesting. If you keep an eye on the modelling industry, you wouldn't expect her to stand out this big, at all. I knew her before squid game and if you see her on the runway, you wouldn't even take a second look at her. When I finished the show, I was more amazed in her acting skills because I knew it was her debut acting gig. Usually runway models who turned actresses don't do well. Also, as an Asian myself as well I didn't expect that much people from the West to find her attractive. That's why this video was interesting to me.
I'm just happy we finally get Asian representation this big in the international market. If you want to see East Asian models with similar features, she reminds me of Cong He and Yoon Young Bae face wise - full lips, high cheek bones, have neonatal features as well. All of them are gorgeous.
Actually the director did say that during the casting of the characters, she sent her audition and when he saw her face he felt she was the one who could represent Saebyeok the best
If I were to be his friend or partner I'd feel so insecure because I'd feel like he'd be studying up my face all the time taking into account so many small details💀
I haven’t watched his other videos, and ofc, working in the field of beauty, you know technically what is deemed “unattractive”. But that’s no indicator of his personal taste and he doesn’t say any of the Squid Game girls’ features are unattractive, just points out the ones that are unconventional for her home and more appealing in other countries! Chances are you are an average, decent looking human, do not pick yourself apart dear
@@yuruyukii Oh, no problem, friend!! Remember, even the people you consider the most attractive in the world, there are some people who'd find you prettier. It's all about finding the person who loves **your** look, not the one you're expected to have! Not everyone is attracted to or prefers the beauty standard, and it differs everywhere you go :3
@KaikuKaiku She’s a model who walked on runways for brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc. It’s true she’s above 175cm. It’s impossible that she’s only 170cm. Then she wouldn’t even have a chance to stand on the runway.
I definitely think it's more than her facial looks. It's the character we've come to associate her with because of the show. The "rogue independent badass with tomboyish short hair" + a pretty face resulted in an appealing character. Looking at the first picture you used of her where she has long hair for example, she looks generic with no "character" to her, nothing really stands out about her in that pic. The show definitely helped for people to project an attractive character onto her.
yeah, seeing her in other things she almost looks like a different person- I guess maybe the bangs help make her jawline stand out too? It's neat that with different make up she can look way more 'cute'
In Eastern beauty standards it’s common to see, and desirable, to have those lines under your eyes. Koreans know the beauty trend as “aegyo-sal” and, if you watch any makeup tutorials by both Korean men and women, you’ll see that they purposefully accentuate the feature to appear more youthful and bright. Don’t mistake the “aegyo-sal” for tired eye bags though.
@@elise8276 I don't think OP is referring to a puffed up aegyo-sal (correct me if I'm wrong), but to the tear trough instead. It's refreshing to see it so dominantly on an actor/actress!

yeah, but some beauty aspects like skin color are prohibited to talk about tbh. for example, if i say i think dark skinned is ugly, i would be almost lynched
Honestly the first time I saw her I didn't find her attractive. But man, as the series progressed and I watched her more time on screen she began to look beautiful to me, I could even say that I ended up having a crush with her character. Beyond the symmetry or features I think this girl has something very special.
To me it was the opposite. I hadn't even seen her in trailers, so I didn't even know who she was. But as soon as I saw her I said to my self "wtf this girl is stunning!"
For the series she fit just right. One thing about Koreans is they know how to pick characters and actors . Had squid game been a Hollywierd series the actors and characters wouldn't have matched .
Because you like her personality, not her looks. She actually isn't that pretty compared to Asian women standards. She's like a 6/10, which is still better than me lol but yeah.

I think she might be one of the few high fashion models that Koreans actually find goodlooking. Because she has a very neotenous face, it balance out her sharper features.
I noticed in south Korea when a girl has an "ugly" feature but is still seen as attractive, the girl usually have a babyface or The rest of their features are very delicate. They might have slanted small eyes or high cheekbones, but their nose is tiny, lips are pouty, round cheeks and relatively short face. There was this pop idol Sohee who has slanted monolid eyes and slightly high cheekbones, But she was an IT girl for many years. And it was not for being talented lol or entertaining but for her looks! and she has a soft baby face. Devon Aoiki is also a excellent example of this! She has high cheekbones and slanted eyes (ugly features in Asia) but she's still considered attractive because she has a neotenous face. Despite her eyes & cheekbones not being ideal, the rest of her face are still ideal and balance out her sharper features.
@@NaNa-wy2tk You mean Ahn Sohee from Wonder Girls? I’m korean and actually she is not slanted eyes and high cheekbones in Korean standards. (She has big eyes in Korean standard) And Koreans don't hate all monolids, but we like large and open(?) monolids like Sohee, park boyoung, twice dahyun and this kind of eyes are very rare. I think the face that Korean people think ugly is much slanted eyes, big nose, and a wide face.
what features do you share that you're insecure about? her features are technically 'perfect' so i can't imagine anyone feeling insecure about a visual trait they share with her
@@punkbjorkpeople can feel insecure about many things. I feel insecure about my blonde hair, some people might think that sounds stupid and stuff but I actually do. Not because it’s ugly or anything but because it stands out and my whole life I’ve wanted to be like my friends and family and their dark and straight hair.
I know she was meant to look like “death” given the nature of the circumstances they’re in throughout this show but even with the exaggerated eye bags, all I could think every time she was onscreen is “wow she’s so striking.” She still looked like a model onscreen lol at least face wise since we didn’t really see her body up close besides when she was in the bathroom picking out the shard of glass that stabbed her in the stomach. She makes eye bags look so attractive. Yes, they made her look tired, but as someone with skin nowhere near as nice as hers I would look more than just a little tired if I had eye bags like that lol.
i think the freckles, eyebags, sweat, cuts, shaggy hair etc all made her look much more attractive than she is irl actually (not that she isn't also beautiful irl)
No mention of the lips, even though puffy lips has long been big in the west to the extent that lips are not uncommonly injected to make them puff up. And that despite the described eastern standard, per photo comparison, of a thin upper lip, this lady has a very thick upper lip, indeed thicker than her lower, which is extremely uncommon. Lips are a very sensual thing indeed. Odd how much this was skipped. Think Scarlett Johansson. Lips count for a lot in beauty.
I think it’s her gaze. I notice Korean people hate their monolids (well, I assume. Kpop and kdramas mostly show them with double eyelid surgery) but she has kept hers and it fits her well. Her stare screams strength and resilience but she’s so fragile inside. She’s a very good character.
I think she also appeals to Western audience because her eye shape. Smaller eye and the "Cateye" Cathoplasty surgery has become so popular in recent years. I am mixed Asian and growing up I thought my eye shape was ugly, but now so many popular white celebrities have this look.
She gives off “handsome” and “strong aura” vibes which is not really common to a lot of people I guess, the same way why kpop guys are striking, they’re pretty and it’s not that often you see guys that lean towards the pretty side of the scale more than the handsome side.
@@nataschamcgregorian6313 yeah absolutely, but I also think that a person becomes more appealing to the majority when they manage to pull off both sides of the handsome and pretty spectrum.
Oh wow, I didn't know she's gained so much popularity just from being attractive. Although, when I was watching the show, my first impression of her was also that she has really nice facial features. When I found out she was a model, that made a lot of sense.
What I’ve noticed is she’s most popular among women. Im sure she attracts men as well but majority of the praise comes from women regardless of sexuality. In fact many straight women are dawning on how they’d “go gay” for her which I haven’t seen that hype from then since ruby rose. I think the attraction like you mentioned is the boyish masculine charm/facial structure that is complemented by the plump lips and high cheekbones.
she seems to give off the strong, Brave, courageous, mature kind of vibe and she’s also pretty tall for a girl. So I think that’s the reason that a lot of girls are attracted to her more than guys are.
@Liessa Abiane I'm masc into more masc women. So, Sae Byeok, Jung Ho-Yeon's character, was more attractive for me. They are both absolutely stunning, but you are right as in how we find ourselves more attracted to different people.
I think it'd be fun for you to analyse Yoon Jeonghan from Seventeen. As an Idol, he goes through a lot of style changes. Especially with his hairstyle. I've been watching QOVES Studio for a little over a year now and I always notice how you make a point for long hair to mostly only work on masculine men. For a "flower boy" like Jeonghan, I think long hair actually suits him (though in a different way). I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Love from JP 💛
lower body fat will always make your facial features pop and give a more striking look to your face, idk how deep into detail you can go about this. It's a pretty straightforward topic
@@seeneverything5150 Thats what I was thinking. Though I do have a friend who is much more over weight that me, body wise my body is smaller but her face looks sharper. While I have a wider jaw even though I have less body weight on it
@@seeneverything5150 it's not that black and white. It's easier to see the bone structure when someone's skinny and if there's any kind of asymmetry the protruding bones highlight it even more be it the face or the body proportions. Due to the beauty standards skinny is still ideal, but i think many look much more attractive when they are chubbier than skinny
She is definitely considered way more attractive in the West than in Asia but the again she is a model. A model in the West that is, she speaks English. Korean models look different.
I’m glad you mentioned as “East” rather than “Asian” directly since many generalized Asian face as those who looks like Japan-Korean-Chinese when there are middle-east, south and west Asian
I realized while watching this that I rarely see her kind of face in kdramas, especially a main character with an actual storyline. I remember thinking she looked similar to the pizza girl in Parasite. Glad I watched the video and understood your analysis more.
Ooohh I would love a video on Gong Yoo. I find him really attractive on his movies but for some reason I don't like his photos so much. How much do gestures influence attraction?
Gong-yoo is interesting, because he looks like he has a receiding chin, and what I've learned from this channel is having a strong jaw-chin area is a huge factor in facial attractiveness, Yet he's attractive and he's not even ugly-hot, he's just hot lol.
Shu Qi, the Hong Kong actress who appeared in the first Transporter film also fits in this category. There are elements of beauty that transcends cultures.
whoa this is so interesting. i thought to my self (prior to watching the show) why people especially those in the west were suddenly so taken with hoyeon. i randomly was recommended her vogue skincare video and i was so quickly taken with her eye-catching attractiveness and nice personality. i never thought one's looks could be broken down scientifically, so this was a very nice surprise to me. thank you, i learned quite a lot! :)
I think it has nothing to do with “western standards”, I personally find men and women with chiselled jawline and full lips very attractive. I am Nigerian and my standards are people similar to my facial structure and women like rosario dawson, gabrielle union, ciara, jada pinkett, Margot robbie, angelina jolie, etc are women i find extremely attractive. This korean girl happens to be one with a very chiselled face which makes her BEAUTIFUL 😻
Those are all super beautiful women! They are also all “inverted triangle” body types (broader shoulders than hips), so it seems you love the look of a strong woman in general :)
I think their point was she's considered utterly beautiful in the West but her face deviates from the Korean beauty standards. Her nose is considered wide, her eyes are just so-so in Asia, and she looks very mature - but that being said, I think this is why she appeals to foreigners in general. In East Asia, having strong features is usually not wanted, they prefer softer and delicate faces. I was actually surprised how many people complimented her for her looks because I loved her character but I didn't notice her that much in Squid Game. I'm actually happy she's getting noticed because I'm asian with a strong jawline 😂

I think she's one of those people who became attractive bc the movie or show. She's a gorgeous woman don't get me wrong, but we easily get attracted to a character in her situation it's her Squid Game character. She's a modell she was known before (in the fashion industry) but she played a strong woman you can easily become a fan of that fictional character. Also when you see an interview she's a sweetheart totally different person than on the show people love that you can attached to her even more because of that. From the outside she's a tall slim lady (obviously bc she's a model) SK's ideal is like that + small face. Overall I think for many people her play and her persona makes her attractive rather than her physical appearance and because she has strong facial features (which in many countries don't count as an attractive point) you can easily become captivated by her.
This. She's attractive, but her popularity definitely comes from her character. A "not like other girls" (but a version that is believable to guys) character that's also mysterious and unique because she's North Korean.
Many famous models often have "alien" qualities to their face, it makes them unworldly, godly. Hoyeon's face feels vaguely similar to Gelflings from the Dark Crystal. She like a woodland elf.
Twitter picks on anything. You have many other videos like this one, I’m sorry for the hate. The people criticising probably haven’t even seen your channel.
I found her attractive only because of the way she portrayed her character in squid games. if I'm being honest I wouldn't have taken a second look at her if I had seen her before on the ramp. I mean, she is pretty but there's not really a shortage of pretty when it comes to modelling. but she really set herself apart as sae byeok which made her extremely attractive to me.
I honestly agree- like this girl is definitely 10 times prettier than me, but since beauty is subjective, she isn’t the most beautiful girl i’ve come across (obviously IMO)
thats very true. turns out ive seen some of her photoshoots and some runways that she walked on (i did 2 years of fashion school that basically lead me to watch rons of runways shows for research 😪) but i didnt bat an eye at her cuz when models walk the runway, they somewhat kind of look the same as they are dolled up for the theme of the fashion show and/or line. plus, when you watch fashion shows, you tend to look more at the clothes than the models' faces. her acting definitely boosted her attractiveness to people because seeing her pictures now, i wouldnt really bat an eye at her. probably say something like "oh wow. shes pretty" and keep on scrolling. nonetheless, people's beauty standards are different so again, 🤷🏻♀️
Because she's in one of the most popular show ever، definitely one of the reason. People's perspective is heavily subjected. Edit: Some of you guys in the reply should put my comment in a context, i clearly stated "one of the reason", not "the main reason". I don't care if you think she's attractive not because the show. She IS attractive and beautiful. And im not denying that.

@@audrey5308 There are Asian people everywhere around me here in the United States and not one of them compares to her imo. Like I’m biracial (b+w) and I see biracial people everyday as well yet most of us don’t compare to a Zendaya.
When Hyoyeon made her appearance on Squid Game I thought she was a boy at first. Even as a straight girl I find her to be really attractive. Her facial features are perfect (to me) and her personality is cool too!
Being part Asian myself, I really love my wide cheekbones. They give me a striking, serious, angular appearance, yet my eyes are soft enough that I can still be warm and inviting. Results in a very mysterious look. This really helps in me get along with people in conversation, and then hitting them with new ideas they'd never considered before. I want to get my jaw realigned though, it's terribly asymmetrical.
Hilarious how people from twitter who came on here are bashing him based on a single thumbnail without knowing anything about the creator or the channel
Can you also do Hwasa? When you mentioned striking eyes, I immediately thought of her. Hwasa is a south korean singer who is breaking beauty standards in the east. She's phenomenal.
A personal favourite comment of mine: 'She's hot because she's hot... now stop????'
"She can't be attractive if she's not white"
That is not the message of this video at all.
Twitter likes to use a lot of words out of context, because it's an echo chamber of misinformation:
🌑 Eugenics: a set of beliefs and practices that aim to improve the genetic quality of a human population, historically by excluding people and groups judged to be inferior or promoting those judged to be superior.
From the very first beauty culture videos discussing ethnocentrism and its impact on beauty standards: ruclips.net/video/dzqM0e09CZc/видео.html
To acknowledging cross-cultural similarity in beauty standards between Sengalese tribes and Scottish Immigrants: ruclips.net/video/Q2afARZAiLI/видео.html
This channel has always been as inclusive as possible, and virtually every beauty standards video or discussion on beauty, includes as many different geographical regions and ethnicities as possible to fit in a 10 minute format.

No one on our team, in the entirety of the qoves team, is a straight white male (that should not even have to matter, but twitter's facts are wrong, big surprise).
🌑 Race Science
What the hell is race science??? I must have taken the wrong degree.

Her face shape reminds me of a cat, it makes so much sense to cast her as a character who's quick, stealthy and clever.
Loveuhhh she's all natural, didn't change her face to "blend in'' with the "beauty standards" in Asia. She's EXTREMELY GORGEOUS, striking even.
Yeah she admitted having like 4 done
@@emp.1984 where did she admit it
@@emp.1984 4 times? And why still looking like that?
She fixed her eyelids and nose. So far that I know of
wdym by beauty standards in asia???
I know she was meant to look like “death” given the nature of the circumstances they’re in throughout this show but even with the exaggerated eye bags, all I could think every time she was onscreen is “wow she’s so striking.” She still looked like a model onscreen lol at least face wise since we didn’t really see her body up close besides when she was in the bathroom picking out the shard of glass that stabbed her in the stomach. She makes eye bags look so attractive. Yes, they made her look tired, but as someone with skin nowhere near as nice as hers I would look more than just a little tired if I had eye bags like that lol.
Exactly I thought she was beautiful
i think the freckles, eyebags, sweat, cuts, shaggy hair etc all made her look much more attractive than she is irl actually (not that she isn't also beautiful irl)
@@kaatyblue idk about the shaggy hair. But yeah
@@kaatyblue she’s pretty either way but she looks so perfect in general that she still looked bomb with all those “imperfect” features too!
Yes how can someone look so good when they're supposed to look very bad 😂
No mention of the lips, even though puffy lips has long been big in the west to the extent that lips are not uncommonly injected to make them puff up. And that despite the described eastern standard, per photo comparison, of a thin upper lip, this lady has a very thick upper lip, indeed thicker than her lower, which is extremely uncommon. Lips are a very sensual thing indeed. Odd how much this was skipped. Think Scarlett Johansson. Lips count for a lot in beauty.
That’s true!
Infact the lipa
contribute to 60% of her attractiveness... without them she would look like an average everyday korean man or woman
I think it’s her gaze. I notice Korean people hate their monolids (well, I assume. Kpop and kdramas mostly show them with double eyelid surgery) but she has kept hers and it fits her well. Her stare screams strength and resilience but she’s so fragile inside. She’s a very good character.
She's a model for a reason. Western brands look for Asians with "authentic oriental looks"
She actually have double eyelid though... They are the "inner double eyelid type"
no, asians praise monolids now
i wouldn’t say korean people hate monolids. it’s just that double eyelids is the asian beauty standard
they don't "hate" it. they just prefer double eyelids over monolids as a beauty standard but wouldn't really mind having monolids either.
Depends on taste I guess
@@nataschamcgregorian6313 yeah absolutely, but I also think that a person becomes more appealing to the majority when they manage to pull off both sides of the handsome and pretty spectrum.
"It's actually quite simple"
*makes 12 minute video explaining why*
But nah, good video mate. Great explanation.
I'm straight and no.. Not my type
@@rossanascarati2720 then the comment doesn’t apply to you, move on
makes sense why so many women find her attractive then ... even my heterosexual friends were swooning over her while watching the show
@Liessa Abiane i think hoyeon is kind of a mix between feminine and masculine so that's why so many people are finding her attractive
she seems to give off the strong, Brave, courageous, mature kind of vibe and she’s also pretty tall for a girl. So I think that’s the reason that a lot of girls are attracted to her more than guys are.
@Liessa Abiane I'm masc into more masc women. So, Sae Byeok, Jung Ho-Yeon's character, was more attractive for me. They are both absolutely stunning, but you are right as in how we find ourselves more attracted to different people.
i like her but thats just the lesbian part of my omnisexuality showing
y’all gotta start questioning that
I think it'd be fun for you to analyse Yoon Jeonghan from Seventeen.
Omg yes...as a carat i want to see a vid about his beauty too
Do a video on body weight. Skinny v chubby. How it affects the face. How it gives an impression. How it differs between cultures, etc.
Yes!!
lower body fat will always make your facial features pop and give a more striking look to your face, idk how deep into detail you can go about this. It's a pretty straightforward topic
@@seeneverything5150 Thats what I was thinking. Though I do have a friend who is much more over weight that me, body wise my body is smaller but her face looks sharper. I think when it comes to weight the jaw shape is also important. She had a very small and delicate jaw from the side view but from the front is very sharp and makes her face look slim. While I have a wider jaw even though I have less body weight on it
@@seeneverything5150 it's not that black and white. I have seen so many people who look much better when they are chubby, being skinny gives them the sickly gaunt look, and highlights the Asymmetry of their face even more, whereas having a chubbier face balances it out.
She’s a model in Korea too, that’s where her career began. HoYeon was on Korea’s Next Top Model as well.

I’m glad you mentioned as “East” rather than “Asian” directly since many generalized Asian face as those who looks like Japan-Korean-Chinese when there are middle-east, south and west Asian
Thank you for this!! Honestly when people say ‘ Asian’ it’s literally only east Asia being referred to and not everyone else it’s really annoying
Agreed the term Asian means nothing because Asia is so big. East Asians should be the definitive term.
Maybe he's just not photogenic, I know lots of people who are just stunning in person/on video but photographs never do them justice
He's full of charisma which gives him added attractiveness
He has relatively short jaw and short face. So in movies or dramas, camera shoot him from lower angle to make him look more masculine.
Gong-yoo is interesting, because he looks like he has a receiding chin, and what I've learned from this channel is having a strong jaw-chin area is a huge factor in facial attractiveness, Yet he's attractive and he's not even ugly-hot, he's just hot lol.
@@CrustTM ikr I've actually seen him at the premiere, but he's more handsome than the video.
Tbh I liked her bc her side profile is literally sooo perfect. And that hair in squid game really made her look like an anime/webtoon character. 😭
Shu Qi, the Hong Kong actress who appeared in the first Transporter film also fits in this category.
There are elements of beauty that transcends cultures.
Good one! Forgot about her
true!
whoa this is so interesting. i thought to my self (prior to watching the show) why people especially those in the west were suddenly so taken with hoyeon. i randomly was recommended her vogue skincare video and i was so quickly taken with her eye-catching attractiveness and nice personality. i never thought one's looks could be broken down scientifically, so this was a very nice surprise to me. thank you, i learned quite a lot!
This korean girl happens to be one with a very chiselled face which makes her BEAUTIFUL 😻
exactly lol.
Those are all super beautiful women! They are also all “inverted triangle” body types (broader shoulders than hips), so it seems you love the look of a strong woman in general :)
I think her lips are way more Attractive than Angelina Jolie !
Thats literally following Western Standards
Definitely one of the best casting. When the actor/actress physical appearance fits with the characters’ personality and description.

There’s a reason why so many viral posts with hundreds of thousands of likes of people saying “that girl from Squid Game has a beautiful face” and we all automatically think of Hoyeon’s character Sae Byeok first.
Well, that’s because you’re not thinking of the demography. Those who are not familiar with Asian shows are fascinated while those who have seen better looking Asian women are not because they are already familiar with Asian shows.
Nah dude she's just pretty. Both actress looked great.

She's 5'9, she's tall in Asian standards modeling or not, but very short in western standards in modeling.
Agreed. Like her instagram account goes 100k to 13m realquick after being strongly notice at S.G.

Many famous models often have "alien" qualities to their face, it makes them unworldly, godly. Hoyeon's face feels vaguely similar to Gelflings from the Dark Crystal. She like a woodland elf.
@chewiirull yup thats the vibe. far apart eyes and a sharp jaw.
You should have mentioned the fake freckles that she is wearing in the show. Gives her a more youthful look

@@InfestedLice agreed.

thats very true. turns out ive seen some of her photoshoots and some runways that she walked on (i did 2 years of fashion school that basically lead me to watch rons of runways shows for research 😪) but i didnt bat an eye at her cuz when models walk the runway, they somewhat kind of look the same as they are dolled up for the theme of the fashion show and/or line. plus, when you watch fashion shows, you tend to look more at the clothes than the models' faces. her acting definitely boosted her attractiveness to people because seeing her pictures now, i wouldnt really bat an eye at her. probably say something like "oh wow. shes pretty" and keep on scrolling. nonetheless, people's beauty standards are different so again, 🤷🏻♀️
She also had strong jawline
@MangekyouOG not in korea
Because she's in one of the most popular show ever، definitely one of the reason. People's perspective is heavily subjected.
