I like this song for the same reason I love Radical Face songs. Simple lyrics against the backdrop of harmonious instrumentals . I especially like the horn & strings effect. Scratch that, it’s hard to select, love it all.

My brother introduced me to sufjan Stevens a long time a go. This song reminds me of him. His life slowly went downhill. Recently it turned out he has huntingtons disease. This song reminds me of the good and bad times with him.

Its wonderful and I also listened today to ther oscar-nominated song from Call me by your name Mysteries of love. This singer and music writer has so much talent! I'm thinking of buying his album! Who ever is listening to this hope that it makes them happy and puts them in a good mood like it did for me!

I don’t even know what “The Politician” is but I sure remember this song back in 2005 Almost TWENTY years ago… and how insanely vivid my old life becomes. I was 15-16 and truly having the best years of my life in High School finding who I was… and who I wasn’t. I was with my friends every weekend being young adults and just being alive. I know this sounds weird but I’m a little stoned and heard this song on a reel on IG and it did something to me; it transported me back to that time in my life. We were so lucky to grow up in the 90s and 2000s. Truly… and I don’t even know why this song invoked so much emotion but it did and I’m not mad about it. I am somewhat mad, however, at the fact that I won’t be able to go back to that time in my History to relieve myself of even SOME of Life’s obligations and hardships nowadays. 😭🙌🏼

My cousin Matt introduced me to your music back in 2008, this album specifically. I fell in love with Illinois (of course I'm biased in favor of the album, Illinois is where I was born and I have a lot of family there). After his death in 2011, I treasured your music like a keepsake. And then when my grandma died in 2016, Carrie & Lowell became a bitter sweet refuge for me around her death. I haven't watched The Politician, but I might start because if the show runners have good enough taste to use this song as the opening, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that the show itself is good too. Thank you, Sufjan, your music is a blessing and your vulnerability cared for my own in the trials of my life.
