Your 'ear' serves you well. Haha! This song is on "Grace Under Pressure" which is the album directly after Signals (which contains "Subdivisions"). They had a HELL of a time trying to find a producer for this record as they'd decided to cut ties w producer Terry Brown, who did Signals with them. They continued to write even as they kept up the search for a producer. They finally chose Peter Henderson to produce, but Peter wasn't quite the producing force they felt they needed. I think it was Geddy who said he ended up being more engineer than producer. In one sense, the band more or less produced this themselves, so that is probably the reason it has undertones of 'Signals', to it.

Great deep dive. Some of their lesser known songs (among newer fans) reveal how amazing Neil’s lyrics were.
You’ll enjoy exploring some of their less celebrated songs.
I encourage all newer Rush aficionados to do likewise.

    • @davidtingley9978
      @davidtingley9978 2 года назад

The original trilogy came out in reverse order.
Part 3- Witch Hunt (from Moving Pictures, 1981)
Part 2: The Weapon (Signals, 1982)
Part one: The Enemy Within (Grace Under Pressure, 1984)
Also, Rush pushed their songwriting along by making up fictional bands to write songs for. If I remember right, this song was "by" " The Frantics".

This might be the best reaction video I've ever seen.
Besides the fact that this is one of my favorites songs by one of my favorite bands, I love that he actually just sat and listened to the whole song without stopping it every 20 seconds.
He was reacting in real time to what the song was doing and then he spoke his thoughts afterwards, instead of interrupting the flow of the music 15 times like a neanderthal.

I love your reactions. Actually fear is not a trilogy, it’s 4 songs. Part one, the enemy within. Part two, the weapon. Part three, witchhunt. Part four, Freeze. You may have already reacted to one of the other songs. I definitely would recommend doing them all.

If you notice all four parts have different patterns that fit together too.
The Enemy Within starts suddenly and fades out.
The Weapon fades in and fades out.
Witch Hunt fades in and ends suddenly.
Freeze starts suddenly and ends suddenly.

The song "Subdivisions" was released on the album "Signals" in 1982. This song (The Enemy Within) was released on the "Grace Under Pressure" album which came right after "Signals" in 1984.
I have been a fan of Rush since their debut album, and I was remembering something that happened with my father. I was listening to the album "Thick as a Brick" by Jethro Tull on the old stereo at home, and my father came home and screamed at me to turn it off adding "That's terrible." or something to that effect. Yet when I got the Rush "Signals" album for Christmas in 1982 he said "I like that. It's got a great beat!" He then asked who it was and I told him. My father liked rock music, he had "The Who" and quite a selection of interesting classic rock in his truck. For some reason he hated Tull. Oh well, I guess to each their own.

Hello TNT! A recent new listener and subscriber. I've been through your whole Rush playlist in the past few days (mostly for about 8 hours the first night) and half your Led Zeppelin playlist. I've left a couple of comments in older Rush reaction videos, I don't know if you still look for reactions to videos you did a year or two ago still, but this one is only a month old, so I'm catching up to you and hope you see this comment since the video is newer.
I love seeing your first time reactions, especially with my favorite band, Rush. I remember some of my first reactions the first time I heard some of their songs and my mind is always blown. But the people so far giving you request must be posers or something, because there are so many great songs and even entire albums you have not covered yet. I have two requests I would love to see your reactions too. From one of my favorite Rush albums 'Caress of Steel,' The last two songs on the album, 'The Necromancer' and 'The Fountain of Lamneth.' The first is slightly over 12 minutes, IIRC, and the second, another "rock opera" over 20 minutes.

You won't need to imagine what Neil looked like drumming this song, a live version from Grace Under Pressure tour exists and it's a most excellent cut. ruclips.net/video/AQ4hfUDV3eo/видео.html
Rush in their prime, playing 3 sold out nights in their home town of Toronto Sept 20-22, in Maple Leaf Gardens.
Got the fortunate chance to see the Montreal show on July 14, '84 just two months before, at the age of 15 - my first ever concert (lucky me!!) - and was immediately blown away by that wall of sound. Still remember thinking quietly in the roar of cheers, "How can 3 humans create such a huge wall of sound"..., a nuclear punch is how I described it. I was immediately blown away by them and went on to see every show in Montreal from this one right to R40 Tour in 2015.
There will never be another 3 piece band capable of pulling off this sort of thing again IMHO. Pure genius at every instrument level, but made even more impressive by the insightful genius of Peart's lyrcis.
    RIP Neil, you were GOAT.

Actually it is four parts although I always liked this track, it pales in comparison to 'Witch Hunt' and 'The Weapon'. 'Freeze' was the most recent addition to the quadilogy, also not quite as strong as the other two. Witch Hunt is the most powerful statement against bigotry and hatred, and The Weapon confronts the themes of authorities using fear as a weapon, and knowledge being the most powerful 'counter-weapon'.These ideas are particularly relevant now.

    U got it right!👍
This came out in 1984 from the "Grace under pressure" album ('Subdivisions' from the 'Signals' album was in '82) There is a live performance video of 'Enemy within' from Rush's '84 tour...
U can hear more of Geddy's synthesizers on this record... 'Afterimage' is from this record... so is 'Distant early warning' ... 'Red sector A' ... The body electric' ... 'Between the wheels'...
The album 'Grace under pressure' went gold, but was not a major hit. Still, Rush fans showed up to see them on tour... Rush brought even more electronic sounds and beats on the next album 'Power windows' in 1985.
