Momma loved Debarge music and passed to pancreatic cancer on 1-10-18, I have alot of great childhood memories of listening to El's music. I would practice his high vocal chords before my own performances with my mother. I have a 5 octave range growing up on this music. Rip mommy I love and miss you so much already😢😢I hope EL will read this to know how much his voice meant to us.

Ohhey Bih He was late performing. He had a show in Oklahoma the night before and was driving from there to Anaheim and had to deal with traffic and by the time he got to Anaheim, he was also exhausted. The show didn't start until 6 hours later because of that. Don't think he made time for a sound check.
It's not issues, really. They're basically simple tech adjustments that in truth are supposed to actually in place BEFORE he even hits the stage. That falls squarely on the shoulders of the instrument techs, and of course, the sound engineers to get his sound levels rigght. Granted, the sound levels of a singer's mic, monitor, and instrument are set during SOUND CHECK the day of a show, but if he barely got to this show by the hair of his teeth, then obviously there was no sound check, and he, like any other musician in this sititustion, is going to be flying blindly by instinct doing a lot of decision making on the spot to find correct pitch and tone ( because your monitor is not reliable and you can't hear if your voice is correct in relation to the other instruments onstage,) call out cues to the other musicians so they know what to do and when, and yes, make on the spot tech adjustments with the instruments. Most audiences at concerts are lay people who don't understand the technical and engineering components of performing live onstage , so a lot of time when they think they're seeing fumbling or an off key singer, it really is the lack of tech and engineering presets throwing everything off, and an entertainer, though cool and nonchalant on the surface, is paddling like hell like a duck underwater trying to fix problems on the spot with their team while keeping the audience happy. I know the profession wary well and seeing him under this pressure with little to go by other than the sound from "the front of house" (which, btw, is why he keeps asking the audience if the can hear , because onstage you can't hear a damn thing without proper monitor settings). This video def. humanizes the dude to me to not see him as a "star" so much as a real, working musician dealing with the headaches all musicians deal with and simply trying to put out fires as they go along . You have to have clear mind, decisive attitude, technical proficiency and be able to think quick on your feet to pull it off.
stylecollective Thanks for the info. I think because of El's past issues with drugs and the fact that he messed up his recording contract with Interscope, I think they dropped him a few years ago due to his drug issues and missing shows. , I think it's becoming too easy for people to assume that he's back on drugs. I'll admit that I thought he was a little drunk in this video but I heard that he's still looking to stage another comeback. I don't think he was really ready in 2010. El ain't no spring chicken and I think the stress of touring and doing promoting his "Second Chance" album got to him which led to his relapse in 2011. Most recovering addicts, if they're not careful, they can relapse within a year and then his other legal troubles. In 2012, he was suspected of possession with intent to sell but the DA ended up dropping the charges because it ended up being his word against the other guy who said he was buying from El. But yeah, El has to keep working because he still has kids under 18 he has to support. I'll say this. He tried but I think he should have waited a year. I also heard on a radio show that he never had done rehab before. Maybe he should have gotten rehab as part of his parole requirement. Maybe El is just waiting for enough time to go buy before he puts out another CD.
stylecollective People had high expectations for the show because it was heavily promoted, moreover the acts before him were flawless. So you can imagine the let down felt because of the performance and tardiness. I hope he hasn't burned bridges in the process. As for me, the only Degarge I am placing on my bets on going forward is Chico. The rest.... we will see.. I might change my mind..Not so sure though.

Scratch and El's mind was sharp and he had clear memory of which brother inspired what song and the lyrics he wrote since he was a young buck. Such a God musically gifted family. Praise God for the great things He alone has done in their lives. Breaking down strongholds of the enemy, bearing them up in strength to overcome spirit crushing life experiences. El DeBarge, I have watched a few of your videos today that are posted on RUclips. What a beautiful gift of song and worship God has given unto you and your family. I once lived in Detroit, but reside in the Washington, D.C. area since 1998. I understand about Detroit back during the early 80s. People succumbed to various lifestyles that put them on a spiraling journey or in the grave. But, God is a redeemer. I gave my life to Jesus Christ in my late teens, and have built a relationship with Him. He is so awesome and truly a faithful God!!!! People come and go in our lives, but He will always remain. He sticks closer than a brother, and I would not trade Him for the world. He's my everything!!! He's my friend, comforter, healer, financier, abundance, strength, truth, and peace!!!
I believe God has a divine plan and purpose for your life. Life is a journey and one of discovery. I like to encourage you to continue to Seek Him until He unfolds the more to you. Let evey generational curse of disappointment, hurt, pain, rejection fear, insecurity and addiction be released from your mind and life in Jesus name. I release upon you light, love, truth, faith, healing, peace, favor, soundness of mind, strength and wisdom in Jesus name!!!! When the more comes, it may not be what you are used to, but just follow Him. He will always guide you into truth and the light, because He is light and a deliverer. He wants you to be a light too! A light to the world. A light that touches lives not only with music, but with your testimony of how he will and has delivered you. He loves you soooo...so much!!! From what I've read they said the family is and was jealous of El .. motown pushed him solo dolo El even said yrs ago he wasn't supposed to be completely solo a solo album then back with the fam.. but motown he said in his own words owned them and what motown said he had no choice but to do he didn't know the ins and outs he was new he said now he knows ..
