ROUND 9… 8’s 06… Billy Joel - 52nd Street (1978)… I just don’t get the love for Billy Joel but he is adored by many including yourself and I should respect that… 3.5* 05… Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Fight (2008)… A good album… 4.25* 04… Mitski - Be The Cowboy (2018)… I would put her in a similar bracket as P.J Harvey, Lana Del Rey & St. Vincent but Del Rey & Mitski are more to my taste… This is a very good album and deserves its #1 position… 4.5* 03… Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing (1998)… Until a few weeks ago I had never listened to a Placebo album… Having completed your Placebo deep dive, I have fallen for this band and this album did very well in my ranking… ‘Pure Morning’ was already a favourite song from the decade… 5*… 02… Odyssey & Oracle - The Zombies (1968)… What a stacked year 68 was, I love every album in my top ten, The Zombies only made #9, only Flatt & Scruggs - Changin' Times was placed lower (I bet you have never heard of them, they are not for most people; who listens to bluegrass does Dylan etc!), it was one of my favourite albums growing up and holds a special place in my heart, I think it deserves it’s place… Odyssey & Oracle on the other hand probably deserved to be a few places higher…5*… 01… Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden (1988)… A fantastic listen… Mark Hollis is a much missed talent… 5* From my first placings… 06… Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes (2008)… I don’t really know that much by the Fleet Foxes but this was my #1 pick then and I stick with it… 4.25* 05… Bryan Ferry And His Orchestra - Bitter-Sweet (2018)... I very nearly chose the Mitski album myself, but I have gone for a rather self-indulgent choice that will have you screaming “WHAT!!!”... This album contains 13 Ferry songs re imagined as twenties styled jazz era classics and to my mind he pulls it off with aplomb… It is not the first time that Ferry has delved into his love of music styles long gone; he dabbled as far back as 1972 with ‘Bitters End’ from Roxy Music’s debut album and a fair few times since… His 1999 solo album of pre R ‘n’ R standards ‘As Time Goes By’ is also a big favourite of mine… I don’t expect anyone to agree with me but I care not, I LOVE THIS ALBUM’ it makes my heart smile… I know that it is not a current soundbite of the 2010’s but it was a new recording and a 2018 release, so to me it qualifies… 4.5* 04… Morrissey - Viva Hate (1988)… Not much to say, it’s one of his best… I know I have scored it lower than ‘Spirit Of Eden’ but it’s not always about the highest score but my eagerness to listen, it’s my favourite for the year… 4.5* 03… Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing (1998)… It knocked off ‘Fin De Siecle’ so I must like it … 5* 02… The Only Ones - The Only Ones (1978)… Wish they had kept it together, they should have been a lot more successful, it’s not my favourite album by them, ‘Baby’s Got A Gun’ takes my top spot… 5* 01… The Beatles - White Album (1968)… This was the first Beatles album that I bought myself (white vinyl, still got it)… More often than not, it is my favourite album by them, even despite one or two rotten tracks… So very little separating ‘The White Album’ & ‘The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society’, I know that some hit on the Beatles, for many reasons but I don’t believe they will ever be toppled as my number one band, to my own mind The Kinks are just as good and easily my second favourite British band of the 60’s… Confession!!… These days I rarely listen to the Beatles but occasionally I do have a splurge… 5* R9… 60’s… 6pts, 70’s… 5pts, 90s… 4pts, 80s… 3pts, 10s… 2pts, 00s… 1pt… AFTER R8… 80’s… 41pts 70s… 34pts, 90s… 32pts, 60’s… 25pts 00s… 25pts, 10’s… 11pts … RUNNING TOTAL 1st 80’s… 44pts, 1st 70’s… 39pts 3rd 90’s… 36pts, 4th 60’s… 31pts, 5th 00’s… 26pts, 6th 10’s… 12pts …
