Great review. We've mostly switched over to D5 Pro from Enscape.

When I spoke to their team a few months ago, they told me 2.5 would support spacemouse - can anyone tell me if it does please?

How does D5 compare to Enscape?

IMO Enscape is better as far as interactivity when modeling "live". We do walk-throughs for lighting design and Enscape is a better format for having your SketchUp model live while running Enscape in a presentation window for the Client. You can alter the SketchUp model and see the instantaneous change in the Enscape window because of the split format and the speed.
HOWEVER, we found D5 to be a more accurate lighting renderer, with more realistic results, but at the cost of speed and format for instantaneous presentation. But most of our rendering work is not live, so we have moved to primarily using D5 for better results and easier installation of the lighting models and attached IES data files. As for UI, I think D5 has a better widget for lighting installation and manipulation, but Enscape is a bit cleaner and easier to operate overall. The D5 Ui screen is pretty chaotic IMO. They need to organize it better.
They both have pretty extensive libraries of objects, but I would give Enscape the edge there, but not by much mostly because Enscape also has a little more relevance to American scene and design requirements . But D5 Pro does offer interactive room plug-ins that can be set for illumination and depth, which we find VERY useful and effective for rendering large apartment and hotel models. We can just turn them on and off at Client request depending on perceived occupancy of the project.
Overall we prefer and use D5 most of the time primarily because it is more accurate for our lighting needs and those interactive rooms are gold for us.
As for cost, D5 is free and D5 Pro is a fraction of Enscape's cost, so big win for D5 there. Get the Pro version for that value and additional output options. Well worth it. Cheers.
