Batting first, the Amazon Warriors got off to a flying start, with Lendl Simmons and Martin Guptill both registering fifties in an opening stand of 103. Mohammad Hafeez then added late impetus to the innings, smashing 30 from just 10 balls.
The Tridents looked to have the game in the bag as Dwayne Smith (104*) and Shoaib Malik (50) compiled a CPL record partnership of 148, but the Amazon Warriors somehow turned it around, thanks to some outstanding bowling at the death by Krishmar Santokie and Ronsford Beaton, who showed remarkable character to keep the Tridents to just three runs in the final over, two days after being hit for a last ball six against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel.
