About cooking with wine, my ex-wife had a client who migrated from Taiwan to NZ. He was a businessman, so he always received premium wines as gifts, but he doesn't drink wine and he doesn't know anything about wine at all. So, one day when he was out, he told my ex-wife, that his wife needed a bottle of wine for cooking, and she just picked a bottle. He told my wife that the wine was called, whatever, Penfolds, whatever, Grange. I was like, 'WHAT?!!!' That was in end-2002, I believed.

I sometimes cook with white wine when preparing the risotto, I did so with the red once I cooked the beef bourguignon. 2021 lockdown led me to WSET L2 and to this channel :)

I rarely buy the bottle in a restaurant because I am conscious that I am paying way over the actual value. Good wines are drunk at home :P

Recently I was listening to a podcast where they referenced Julia Childs choice of cooking wines. They said she generally cooked with sweet vermouth for her reds and dry vermouth as her white! Does show you the margin for error available when selecting cooking wine!

    Great video!
I'm quite new to wine myself, never really liked it in my early to mid 20s, but since I've hit 30 I gave it another go (red wines that is, I still can't get my taste buds around white.) and it's now the only alcohol I drink! I find it goes down much nicer and I don't get bloated as I do with a beer or ale.
I mostly go for something full bodied, although I have tried a Pinot Noir and I didn't dislike it, I just prefer something deeper and... well... full bodied!
It's funny you've mentioned Argentinian wines, I've really found myself gravitating towards South American wines in general, especially an Argentinian Malbec which overall really is a favourite of mine right now. I've also been really impressed with a South African Pinotage Malbec which was beautiful!
It might be just me, but I just find South American reds to have a bit more... Something to them? That's my experience anyway!
Keep up the awesome videos, I've watched all the ones you've done on the red grape varieties and it's really helped educate me with general red wine knowledge, I don't feel so lost when I go to the vast wine section of the supermarket! 😅
