As someone who's not a musician but loves to play around with sound-generating electronics, I find the keyboard on the MicroFreak is a lot of fun to use. It won't help me learn how to play a piano, but the instant control it can give you over various functions is really fun to play around with.
For people who complain about it, I usually tell them it's cheap and easy to get a MIDI controller if you want a normal keyboard, but it's way harder to get a keyboard like the MicroFreaks as an addon so I'm glad Arturia made that design choice.

Thanks for the overview. For me it is the Polybrute. The left side of the instrument appears to be crowded with controls because the designers included a separate knob for each individual function, I think. Less menu diving. In the beginning I overused those effects but know I learned that less is more. Raw sounds can be very effective in music production, as they have a natural and unprocessed quality that can add a sense of authenticity and raw energy to a track

The minibrute 2s sequencer is amazing. The 2 CV mod tracks can be changed between different voltage ranges an envelope mode that turns them into decay envelopes with per step decay control and an lfo with sin, square, saw up, saw down and s&h. Its one of the most impressive sequencers on an analog synth at its price.

I own 2 Keysteps (Org), a Beatstep, a Microbrute, a Minibrute 2S, and a Drumbrute (Org)- What got me started down the Arturia “rabbit hole” was the Keystep, with it’s awesome keyboard (considering it’s size), it’s numerous connectivity possibilities (again, considering it’s size) next was the super-fun to use Beatstep (would love to get Pro versions of both, if I could ever afford them!) next was the Microbrute, which I purchased after hearing an absolutely incredible set from someone playing one of these (along with a drum machine) then became convinced to get the 2S after seeing Loopop’s review of it here on RUclips (was torn between the two versions, but decided on the 2S because of it’s 64 step sequencer) Next, I really, really want a Minifreak (I’d felt that way about the Microfreak until it’s larger “brother” came out!

I played an Origin a whiiiillleee back. I had a friend borrowing one from a studio in San Francisco. It was buggy due to age, and some sort of power supply issue. Very cool synth, although I wasn't familiar with architecture or as skilled with sound design and playing at that time, so I can't say I was able to really grasp the depth of the engine. That being said, a Polybrute is one of the only pieces of hardware that is interesting to me at the moment.

MatrixBrute is the GOAT! Since it's been discontinued, I'm actually hoping they may work on an MKII version of it. With more digital implementation like wavetables, a large touch display instead of the matrix buttons - to draw complex LFO Step-sequencing stuff (like Xfer Serum or Massive), instant patch recall, easier diving, and maybe even customizing wavetables. That be an ultimate hybrid dream-synth with insane sonic possibilities ⚡⚡

Matrixbrute kind of disappointed me. There were a lot of obvious things I'd want to patch in the matrix that were not possible?
I can't recall which exactly because I don't have one in front of me now. But I seem to recall that there wasn't a way to patch noise to filter cutoff.

    Zzounds is fantastic.
I bought a $1600 synth through their payment plan. It started shutting down for no reason. I returned it and they did not charge me a dime for shipping and refunded every penny. I ordered the same synth again. Same problem! I returned that one. It cost me nothing to do so. Again no return shipping and no restocking fee. They did not charge me one dime for either synth or its return. I don't think they even charged me for the original shipping.
    GREAT company.
