Completely agree with you on the appearance of the classic vatos. WTF happened? I'm completely with the old school aesthetic. Those guys back then were more restrained and were respectable. Even though I was but a mere little kid when this documentary came out, I ascribe to the same aesthetic principles of clean and proper attire. For example, I can't go to work at the office without a nice pressed shirt and pants. Just can't do it. Almost instilled. These kids today are overweight and sag. Sad.

Now this are some OG'S right there.
I'm Central American and in the early 80's i use to kick it with this homeboy that had older brothers like this , i learned the ways of the OG'S . siempte todo con respeto , walking down the street with your shirt ot sweatshirt folded on your arm.
My life is different now.
Saludos de LOS ANGELES.
The barrios lookin way cooler than nowadays
When he said “back in my time like 20 years ago “ I felt something
My grama @ 5:39 omg. How I miss her.
Chantelle Navarro That sucks what happened?
Yes that was my grama. The only video I have of her aside the ones my cousin just found. 😢😢😢😍😍😍😍
4th street
Chantelle Navarro where?
with the glasses? How did you realize that? Did someone tell you or you was just watching this?
Completely agree with you on the appearance of the classic vatos. WTF happened? I'm completely with the old school aesthetic. Those guys back then were more restrained and were respectable. Even though I was but a mere little kid when this documentary came out, I ascribe to the same aesthetic principles of clean and proper attire. For example, I can't go to work at the office without a nice pressed shirt and pants. Just can't do it. Almost instilled. These kids today are overweight and sag. Sad.
Wow this is history right here...Man now I feeling like watching Blood In Blood Out...Peace and Aloha from Hawaii!!!
Man!...brings back memories.
Where are we now... now I’m a “veterano”.
The slang we used, the clothes we wore, the stuff we did.... and then the “chota” showed up.
Thanks for the memories.
The slangs still here, just changed slightly, the clothes it depends on the person, I'm in highschool and some of my homies dress like the fool in the Pendleton and Lowrider Brim,
They're under 7th street bridge, you can still see their tags from the 70's in the atrium which is closed off.
Is that where they’re at under 7th st bridge ? What about the reporter ? What bridge is he on ?
I left l.a in 94 went back in 2016. It's changed a lot. The gang culture is not as big as it used to be. There where blocks I would not dare go. It's changed a lot.
Orale gracias for taking me back to the firme old days when I used to be a lil cholita aka La GiGgLeS simon when we actually played outside we rode our beach cruiser bikes, listened to the oldies but goodies with Art Laboe KRLA AM Radio Simon we would stay outside till dark we would go inside not because we wanted to, but because we had to😁 I couldn't wait for the weekends to go cruising down Whittier Blv

Back in the 70’s, we pressed and creased our Levi’s pant and Pendleton shirts. Had nice shiny black shoes and use tres flores on our hair.

Even the little kids in the video are veteranos at this point.
They may have been gangsters, but these guys seemed really cool and laid back. Like you could chill and have a beer with them.
Thy were classy
Or make a shank and sniff some glue, whichever you prefer.
damn! growing up in the Pico Gardens Projects aka CUATRO FLATS Projects was crazy seen all the lil homies getting jumped into the barrio or getting shot up or going to jail for life. The only person that was trying to help everyone is Father G!! shit I survived the projects.
What happened to those projects? They look different now
I see a lot of old school homeboys at Santa Fe swapmeet on sundays...they seem chilled out drinking cold brew, some even still dress the same too
i miss these days when everyone knew there place from every race the respect the class style knowing to represent stand for one another keeping raza strong and brown as pride from the streets to life to the lowriders puro chicanos life style🇲🇽💯🔥🔥🔥🙏
It was a race war back then too bro ain’t nothing changed just old heads acting like times were different when literally it was all the same. I don’t care what y’all say it’s literally the same
Being Mexican has nothing to do with being brown. You can be Native Mexican and look Black African

I grew up in Modesto CA. This brings back memories. West coast living is hard to explain. I miss it.

The 80's were cool cuz all they did was be out and chilled.....

Homeboy is still at the tracks, laying nails on the tracks and getting all happy in his wheel chair.
That spot is the 7th street bridge behind the rehearsal studio.

Im from Holland..but can you tell me gentlemans isn't that the place in this video from 1.35 till 03.00 min where the movie Grease did a scene with a car race? And also the last scene of the movie Blood in Blood out..?
Yes it is. many films and commercials are shot by the river or on the bridges.
damn its crazy how it used to be back in the day
I grew up part of my life in a close area Estrada courts, from head start to jr high then we moved to bell gardens and now as a grown up I live outside los angeles but I had a good childhood and never joined a gang because I hated gangs even as a youngster,i was a skater and had tons of fun skating all over los angeles including dogtown santa monica .good memories.
this takes me back when I used to play in my apartments on standard and mcfadden and the girls that lived there would play with my chilli dog
Near the end of the video, which projects was that filmed at?
Pico Gardens on 4th street Boyle heights
Love this documentary, my older generation of my family grew up in Venice (Oakwood area) and Santa Monica (Pico neighborhood) in those years. Them neighborhoods use to be bunch of vato locos back then. I heard stories how crazy it was (Black and Latino). Now it is too gentrified and expensive to live there.
Where can I find the full film
Mang those were the days putting nails on the track and riding on the train 😂😂😂😂
