Yep, I always tie a bit of string around the trigger and rub peanut butter into it. That gets them to tug on the string instead of just licking. You did good.
We have a cat that occasionally brings up “presents” of live mice. He lets them go and they set up home under the washing machine/fridge/furniture. I’ve found peanut butter works every time.
To catch a rat use a toffee, preferably a peanut butter flavour, in the trap... klaps them. For many rats... Or use a 200lt/44gal open drum, fill it to the first ring of water, pour sunflower seeds that cover the water have a plank over the top, wslk the plank, the rats dive in not seeing the water and cant jump out whalla, cheep non fail rat trap. Just remove the rats every morning and add sunflower seeds as necessary.
I caught my elusive rat in a similar way, left the trap unsprung the first night but next night, set it up for the kill but I used a sticky toffee on the trap. The rat had to work harder to get the toffee off the hook and effort triggered the trap. That rat had outwitted me for about two weeks, taking refreshments from the bathroom and using the ceiling as a toilet. Massive relief to get the thug rat. I’m looking at using baking soda, flour and poly-filler powder with added sugar all dry mixed and hope for further results. The poly filler becomes hard in the intestines and rodents can’t pass gas! The method is crude but the disease these rats cause is way off the scale of anything my children would be subject to, as treasured by God, we are the pinnacle of his creation, rats are not!
I did the baking soda thing when I had a rat under my house. I mixed baking soda, or it could've been poly filler substance with peanut butter. In any case, I made small peanut butter balls. Problem is, they have to eat a lot of it to finally die. The first time I put 6 balls out, next day they were all gone but I could still hear the rat at night. Next day after that another 6 peanut butter balls. Again, all gone. Rat not dead yet. I figured he was taking them and storing them someplace and eating when he felt like it. I did this for several days hoping he'd eventually die. No luck, so I went back to the traps, did what this guy did, made the rat comfortable, and I finally got him. Come to think of it, I also used RatX, ground up and made into peanut butter balls, it's designed for them to eat it and it sends a signal to their brain not to drink water and then they dehydrate to death. But same thing, it wasn't working, they have to eat a ton of it to work. Traps are better.
PS....some rats can wiggle their way out of a trap if they're big enough. I've seen it on youtube. I have a nail gun that shoots small finish nails. I turned the trap upside down and shot about 8 nails through it. That way when the kill bar comes down they can't wiggle out, they're impaled by the protruding nails. You really have to be smarter than these rats.
I put my traps in a box with a hole and the trap up tight to the hole. The darkness and only one point of entry almost completely ends this sort kill and leg catches - Never underestimate a pissed off rat.
1:06 - 1:11 Rat got BROKEN. Mine that invade MY home had Rat X that Shawn Woods recommended...Killed over 60 mice and very close to killing TWO Master Splinter type NYC rats(They BOTH had over 1lb of RAT X to eat...)...
Did you use the camera to figure out where he was feeding. Are cameras useful to catch them?...and how long did it take...i ask cuz i cannot catch the ones i have and i wonder if i should get a camera
I have a camera set up with all kind of food and the damn rats will still not come down and check it out! I did one thing wrong and put poison down when I first heard them. That one died and it stunk so horribly! So I want to trap them now. Got all kinds off foods, traps, a motion camera and nothing. But they are up in my attic destroying my place and peeing and pooping! Such disgusting creatures.
Alfredo, I have heard about a "mouse trap tester's" videos being taken down by "YooToobe" for showing mice dye-ing. I don't have any issue with it, but just a head's up. I haven't dealt with catching rats, but I have caught a lot mice and voles (short-eared, short tailed mouse-like rodents). In these animals' cases, I simply put a easy setting plastic trap next to the wall, unbaited. The mice/voles prefer to run along the walls for security and would run over the top of the traps. Without any bait, I caught a lot of them. The traps were easy to set, easy to empty and reusable. I caught over a dozen with one reused trap. I'm guessing rats are braver and don't follow walls, but could there be a way to simply create a path that would take them into a kil zone - a place where they could not avoid the trap?
Rat is down!Rat is down! 1.,2.,3.,4.,5.... Rat's not getting up! .....6.,7.,8.,9.,10! Rat is outa there! It's a Knock Out! And STILL! Heavyweight Champion of The World! Rat Heads Buster!👏🤓
We humans have been killing stuff since the dawn of time. There's a reason why we are the only hominids roaming the earth now, we perfected the art to kill and we've been consistently killing anything that threatens our existence or could feed our families.. It's an evolutionary thing...
I got a suggestion, I do believe there is a way to subtly disable the trap while having it set, so a rat in the future would get comfortable with its current appearance until removed. That way, the rat might not notice the change and get caught.
i am happy to see rats killed just compare the difference when it was free damaging everything even my suv car cv joint rubber imagine that!! now see it trapped can't ran away and killed.
Damn. Traps could be improved to kill instantly. This is just companies cheaping out and being sociopaths to sell this crap. Victor has gone downhill in quality over the years.
Why not demonstrate your compassionate brilliance by going into business to build such a trap. By your own admission, you'd make a killing (so to speak). Oh, and make sure you sell it for the same price as a "low quality Victor," and not "cheap out."
Our neighbour would appreciate it more if these non native norway rats were not released into the wild and infest their homes. They chew on their wiring and pex pipes.

Sounded like the rat was using a typewriter afterwards lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
he is quickly bashing out his will ..
😂😂😂😂
He's a fast typist and was putting finishing touches at the end
Quickly typed out his last will and testament. Unable to sign it though.
People commented on the slow death. It was probably dead and it was just the nerves making the extremities contract for a bit.
Don't care, they deserve to live outside. Once inside it's a death sentence MOST often. The rat's fault.
@@olnappy What a sick way to think about it, hope you get help weirdo
@@olnappyExactly I never felt sympathy for pest getting itself killed from being in someone’s space and most people have phobias of these things
The twins know how to secure your home entry points & to set traps🙂good job on catching that rat
It's important to seal entry points especially before winter. These rats ruined our network and power cable, CPAC hose and our sofa.
SNAP!!!!! And then it sounds like the rat is typing out his death certificate. LOL!!!!
Knowing my luck, I would probably get rats with a peanut allergy! 🤨

Genius move to put a ruler in the background for size reference.

Even slowing down the video to 0.25x speed I still couldn't see for certain what happened when the trap activated.
The water bucket traps are great also. Especially walk the plank types.
I bought one that Shawn Wood recommended.

Do you know Shawn Woods channel? He tests 100s of traps for rats and mice.
Yes. I'm subscribed to his channel. I've bought traps based on his recommendations. He has a great channel.
👍😊
Same here! I believe the Ouell and A24 are the best traps :)
Yep, I'm trying to out smart these suckers too.. Caught 5 rats by my door and 2 in basement but its a BATTLE.
Exactly! Same here, it feels like every night is a battle, but the war is not over! hahaa
I knew it was going to spring and still jumped when it went off!!!

i had the same trap success the other day
I can't tell: did the trap decapitate the rat and the headless body was going through a death rattle or was the head still attached?
It did not decapitate and there was no blood. It killed the rat instantly.

Thanks for the heads up. I posted the video as informational only and had no intentions of making money and well aware of YT's strict policy.
Got one in the garden. I think ill have to invest in a trap.
How does the rat know that the trap is engaged or not?
He got comfortable with the food being there and thought it was harmless. They were trapped in the cottage so they needed to eat to survive.
Great job!
they don't they're just smarter than mice and more cautious
The rat knows the trap is engaged when the kill bar comes slamming down on it’s skull.
