- VIDEO DESCRIPTION
After a water leak in my apartment (which I talk about in my episode 1 of this series), I have been in the process of rebuilding my home studio setup. In this video, I am going through the process of reorganising my space to make everything fit and work together, i'm measuring and finetuning the acoustics and also fitting AN SSL CONSOLE?!.
I'm not done with this room yet, so let me know in the comments what i should get for this room in terms of:
- Hardware gear
- working desk
- Acoustic treatment
- interior design pieces
- furniture
- you name it!

"I'm an audio engineer - I don't know how to make friends". Haha. Same here. Who needs a living room when you can have a studio?
And regarding the room: I'd get a Trinnov. This makes all the difference, even in small not-so-well treated rooms.
😂😂 i was being a little too honest maybe haha. Yeah trinnov can be cool, but i’m not a fan of letting something digitally figure it out instead of using acoustic treatment to really fix the problems. So first im making a plan for the acoustics and then we’ll see if trinnov is needed
@@thomasvopstal FWIW i my room was professionally set up with acoustic treatment, and the Trinnov elevated it appreciably. Famous mastering engineer Brian Lucey turned me on to Trinnov. I highly recommend it bro.
I had one in my bedroom for a few years Best thing ever !! Keep it going brother god bless killer!!! Dont let it go !
What a cool sidecar console!
Right?!
nice!!!!! Can't wait for new mixes breakdown!!!!
Coming soon! Just need to make sure this setup is up and running!
Man I feel this. My entire upstairs flooded on my new studio build midway through lol
man that will definitely inspire you with working on music lol. Wish I had an SSL console too 😅
One day you will!
Love your setup! But please promise no more water leaks.
The ATC + SSL living room combo goes craaaazy
Right?! Still crazy to walk into my livingroom and seeing this setup
This series is really cool
Thanks! Ill make sure to continue it!
3:54 a very relatable moment 😂
I was just about to comment this hahah! The struggle is real! 😅
🥲😂
🔥🔥 man I need that console
Mark1 is the place to be! Go get it!
wow, i have a ssl 4000 G+ and my studio is on my basement. i also had a flood due to rain, huge nightmare. thank god i didnt loose my console
I have an SSL 4000G in my basement!!
Hey Thomas, great channel, full of knowledge bombs - thanks for that! Q: I also wanna/haveto set up against the long wall 530x370. Gearslutz say no, never : ) Are you still happy with your layout? Any obvious downsides? Thanks & greets from Berlin, Sebastian
Oh man, it happened the same to me. I lost 40% of my gear because of an aquarium. I’m so sorry.
I feel your pain with dimensions and living room setups. I'm in Rotterdam and very fortunate that my living room is pretty large (670x514) with only neighbours above me, nobody below me, and isolated from the neighbours. I have a C24 in my living room but could upgrade to a larger desk if I wanted to (the real modular stuff like the SSL/Neve/etc) from the perspective of space and acoustics. But the cost of power and of course needing a machine room for the power supplies for major consoles, along with the maintenance and operating costs would make it a dumb decision and even the newer desks like the Sony Oxford, Euphonix System 5, Neve Genesys, or SSL AWS would not really get me to recoup any of the costs.
Still, why the decision for a bucket of SSL4000 and not one of the more "modern" ones like AWS or a Neve Genesys?
And I'm sure you are aware of that Spanish kid literally having one of the few Focusrite consoles in existence, upstairs in his parent's house in basically a bedroom? It was featured in a documentary on the Focusrite Forte consoles.
Oh really? Didnt know about the focusrite console, thats crazy! Anyway, the aws is nothing like an ssl 4000. Also i don’t want a big console for my mixingsetup, theyre the biggest workflow killer for my setup. I like having the ssl4000 sound and being able to sum and drive the line gains, compress and eq on the board, but i dont want it right in front of me
That console is insane! How much are they going for? I couldn't find a price online.
So sick!! Anyone know estimated price on the console??
man i have the same Landyacthz dingy Skeleton skateboard !
good taste.
for gear recommendation
how abt
- iso acoustics to put below ATC?
- another stand to put the Hedds vertically?
- mayb rme adi converter to go in out of analog gears? (since new audio interface from UAD is coming)
- i heard u said vocal booth so mayb sth like Audient nero (for monitor controlling and talkback with artists on headphones?) obv. heritage ram has to go for this.
- mayb try Sonarworks too to see the measurement of the room. REW is kool too but more data will give u more insights of ur new setup.
Yeah the landyachtz dingy is cool! I never ride anymore tho. My balance isnt that great i noticed😅 i’m definitely adding more converters, but like the apollo ecosystem, so will probably stay with that as the interface.
@@thomasvopstal nice so i rekon u dont use separate converter but ones inside apollo?
@@Lychegsye-nc6td at the moment ill be using the apollo converters and later ill add more that i can connect over adat is what im thinking now
@@thomasvopstal lookin forward to that video too bro!🫡🫡
Interesting. How much is this Mini SSL Console? Thanks and greetz ✌🏻
How much is the mini ssl? I’ve been looking all over for price.
I take it you’re not married 😉
Ha! Good one!
😂😂😂
Even if he is tell his spouse to fall in line
A happy wife is a happy life. Or at least, a less noisy wife. Won’t be able to mix with all that background noise!
@@happypathway5418 No. A happy house happy spouse
Amsterdam? Neighbours are not complaining about noise?
Haven’t had a complaint. I only mix and produce and not at very high levels. I also don’t record here
dude check out the antelope galaxi
Yes! Great interface! But im hearing mixed things about their drivers
if you ever want to sell the SSL or know where I could get a sidecar like that, I would appreciate it
Mark1 makes these, the website is in the description!
how much did the mini ssl cost?
You have to reach out to them directly. I did and they send you the info. Just search for ssl mark one for their site.
10:01 neve rack looking like a microwave 😅
Hahaha you’re not the first to say that, but it still cracks me up! Gotta fill up that rack!
I did it.
And I lost my wife ! 😢
Be careful…
When you have too much gear and no space.
Hahaha and the wordt thing is, i’m still adding more gear😂
I have an SSL Origin but had i known about this, i would have probably gone this route! Serious congrats bro! One question, does the mini SSL have two bus stereo outs, or how does it sum? Also, are the buses operational at all? Thank you for your time sir!
