    Green city in the sun,had lots of third places in its masterplan.its just that greediness,incompetence,and inept leadership has led to the rapid demise of this beautiful city that many take for granted not realising its potential.Thanks Aino for highlighting these challenges.

    Great work. I'm in South Africa watching this and this sort of discourse that looks beyond simply sheltering and employing people is desperately needed on this continent. To many these kinds of topics aren't important but you need to consider them as a city, region or nation grows to do them right, you can't go back and change them easily and since many places like Kenya and South Africa are still growing, we have a chance to integrate these principles into our cities, suburbs and so forth early and enjoy the fruits later. Thanks for the video.

    • @ainoluo
      @ainoluo  3 месяца назад

      @@mamotalemankoe3775 That’s a great point! In development studies there’s a concept called “leapfrogging” - economies that develop later have a chance to avoid some development stages (and mistakes) and apply the more advanced solutions and ideas straight away. I think mobile payments vs payment cards is one good example of this.

    You're so correct on Nairobi's Third Places!... With your professional expert background in urban spaces, Nairobi can be both intriguing and annoying in the same vein. Lot's of green spaces with potential for remodeling are lying idle or unkempt. Hence most folks prefer indoor entertainment spaces which in turn out prices the masses who can't afford.
    Meanwhile, be on the lookout for the next Nairobi edition of Blankets & Wines festival on October 6th.

      Oh I’d love to go to Blankets & Wines, haven’t looked into the concept to see if it’s, again, worth the price 😅 I still remember the days when I was 10 and Shakira and many other artists performed for free for 80,000 people in Helsinki, the good old days 😂

      Only point of correction is on security barring some people from accessing the malls. Unless you're obviously arriving at the mall looking like a security threat, everyone and anyone can get in. The costs of things in there might be prohibitive but no one will restrict your access.

    Student urban planner here,, appreciate the insight on 3rd spaces,,I always try to implement them in my designs and the lecturer be like nisherehe tu kwa plans zako😂😂(translation is people will only be partying in your plans)that and trying to mix different income groups together is a challenge there is this perception that high income individuals should live in one particular area and lower income individuals in another.Economic segregation is something I observed when I moved there from nanyuki for studies.all in all thank you for the info on places to visit I've been traveling outside the city to have fun😅😅

      @@ainoluoplanning in nairobi is very challenging no lie😅but there are brighter days to come thanks to my fellow gen z(s).and nairobi's transportation planning is influenced by other forces like housing and centralized development in only major towns like the number of people passing through nairobi from all over Kenya in one day at a minimum it has to be 500,000 people so planning for a transportation system majorly dominated by private companies has to be difficult as only short term goals are met like decongesting cars on one particular road.other urban planning topics I would like to learn is about land banking and um housing development in Nairobi and green agendas in developing countries coz and don't feel like it's working for us.The government be prioritizing green energy over feeding programs and we ain't pollutin the earth that much

    I laughed when you said, car wash and bar. You know in my country Kenya, police don't really concentrate with drivers unlike here in Finland, where people going to bars leaves their cars at home and use taxi to bar. And again by 3AM in the morning, police are at the bars waiting for everyone to leave and go home. As bars closes exactly at 3am. In Kenya we do have that but they don't really follow them.

    • @ainoluo
      @ainoluo  2 месяца назад
