Life in Bampton in Oxfordshire. Steve Tomlin gave us a wonderful talk on Apotropaics. Few of us had heard that word before but suffice to say, the many shapes cut into the stone of the church are not graffiti but have meaning for the people who created them. Many can be seen within the body of St Mary's but the stairway all the way up to the belfry is full of them.
