It boggles the mind to be looking at a Roman coin that has laid in the dirt for 1800 years. I love that you are so knowledgeable about history! Congratulations!!!
Though you be laying down you are still outstanding in your field John 😁
Outstanding in his field in Perthshire
Clan of The Bendy Thumb for the win! That Roman! Congratulations! 🎉
43:00 6 Monarch's coinage?
Or 7?
Ebay is a rich source of such things.
The French coin is an aluminum coin made 1942-1945 a WW2 occupation coin, on the front it says "Travail, Famille, Patrie" on the backside it says "Etate Française"

I'm just a war history nerd ;) who also lived in France for 5 years.
Wonderful dig!! Thanks for all your hard work in the fields and in production to bring us interesting & exciting videos weekly. Seeing Antoninous like that brings history to life!🤩🤩
Many thanks and glad you enjoyed. A great days digging!!
Love to see the Roman after the oil soak! Special short episode seems appropriate! Thanks!
22:20 Divus Antoninus Pius memorial/commemorative (died AD 161) silver coin. Reverse side, Consecratio (funeral pyre). BEAUTIFUL!
I don’t live in Scotland, I don’t have a metal detector, and with my bum leg I couldn’t even walk in the field with you. But i love your channel, watching what you find, and hearing you share your knowledge. Love your podcasts and i look forward to each and every one!
Of the 5-10 subscriptions I follow on RUclips these are the ones I look forward to the most!
Shed racing is another one of the 10, I follow too.😊

Hi John,
the incredible success of your channel does not come out of nowhere: you invest a lot of time and work in producing excellent and authentic MD-Videos and one can see you are fully

In particular i like the frequent live digs without annoying background music as well as your profound historic knowledge and your humorous comments (especially about the royals). Impatiently waiting every day for your next video! Keep on swinging!

Sympathies on your sore back. My grandma always said, "You know you're getting old when your back goes out more than you do!!"🤣🤣🤣Glad you could push through for your terrific finds!!🥰🥰🥰
Don't call me Shirley 😂😂😂😂
I’m excited and the video hasn’t even started. John is laying down, YooWoo!
The 2 Franc coin is from (German occupied) Vichy France, 1942-1944, and is made from aluminium. Larger denominations had Petain's head on the obverse.
French, (Vichy France) Aluminium 2 Franc coin from about 1943. No longer spendable, the French currency was revalued in January 1960, not to mention the adoption of the Euro in January 1999.
You know its a belter when John starts on the deck 😂
Vichy France 2 Franc coin from WWII. Unusual find
The silver Roman coin is a true treasure! And that French coin is actually quite a find. How did a WWII coin from the Nazi backed Vichy government find its way to Scotland? République Française was replaced with État Français and Libérté Fraternité Égalité was replaced with Travail Famille Patrie. The Nazis installed a puppet leader at Vichy, a WWI hero Maréchal Philippe Pétain. The actual leader of France was Charles De Gaulle who was in exile in London.
Your French coin two francs are from the facsist Vichy government of France. The leader was A guy called Petain. The motto on the obverse is travaille famille Patri which translates as work family and nation. And the coin is not issued from the republished francaise but from simply France.
Wow congratulations John! Excellent coin. Love seeing finds of Roman times!
What a nice big smile!!!!

@@JPDaigle well gosh I have no idea what you're talking about 😂

It is always a great day if the Scottish Detectorist starts with a wee lie down. Truly an awesome day, John. Not any Roman ruins in Texas, but there are old Spanish settlements, though I have not found anything related to them, I guess they have been detected too much. Congratulations on a spectacular day. Greetings from Texas.
😲Wowzers!! What a coin!! So much detail still on it. Just fabulous. An awesome amount of finds, nice one John!
Super finds! I loved that giant buckle found early in the video because ive found a few of them in rural Ontario, Canada at older (for our area) farm sites. They're always a welcome find for me

a good day john nice roman tho well done
Awesome Roman mate👏👏👏👏
Wow. I actually have that same posthumous issue denarius of Antoninus Pius. Nice find! Really fun to see one coming from the ground. Mine came from CNG in 1998. It was only 30USD at the time, but it has no provenance. I love how the UK rules help preserve the history. DIVVS (Divus) ANTONINO or some variation.. not DEUS. Yes, CONSECRATIO / Pyre.
Congratulations John 🎉 Beautiful Roman! Great video.
Good job, Bob 👍🏻
Well done from Perth Western Australia
