Had the protocol of the time been different Charles would have married Camilla when they were both young and single and very much in love but she was classed as a commoner by the stuffed shirts of Whitehall so permission wasn’t given. Thank goodness times have changed so both William and Harry have been allowed to marry the women they love even though they are both commoners and Charles gave his blessing. Charles was treated appallingly by the ‘old guard’ and I’m pleased that he has found true happiness at last.
With the distance of years to gain perspective, I am glad there were some happy, affectionate, even loving times. Sad they didn't last. They were both mired in their upbringings; she naive and looking for a secure, whole family, he entrenched in tradition and duty. And, his unresolved relationship with his great love. I feel so sorry for all of her torment and sadness. I am happy to read that she worked so hard on herself and was finding meaning and peace. Love the pics of her with baby William, still wearing her maternity dress and white pop socks. God Love her. She looked so vulnerable. Very different with Harry, styled and made up. We saw the real confused vulnerable Diana with baby William. Our hearts went out to her with her new born. They looked so happy and Charles was delighted to get his heir. Little did we know what was ahead.
