Rest in peace, Joey. We Maggots will never forget you. We will always have you in our hearts. I still remember the first time I saw this beautiful and beautiful band thanks to Wait And Bleed... I miss those epic, legendary and unique moments that Joey and his drummer could create. I miss seeing the whole band united, distributing a dose of joy, nostalgia and above all Affection. You are the pulse of worms, you are the best thing in the world. And this July 26th we will not start crying for The god of the battery. I'm more than sure he doesn't want to see us sad and bitter. We must grow, strengthen and arm ourselves with courage to face this pain that we feel with their loss. He wouldn't want to see us sad, he doesn't want his Maggots to be depressed and fucked up by their loss. He will continue to do his drum solos wherever he fences. He's in paradise with Paul doing what his Maggots liked most. Playing and playing the drums Making art and rocking in peace and quiet. Joey, all the Maggots love you. Your departure was very painful, it was too strong. You abandoned us at such a young age and that game hit us where it hurts the most. In our Making art and rocking in peace and quiet. One of my earliest childhood memories was watching this at 6 years old with my older brother who got me into metal. I remember sitting there, and wanting drums. Turned 15 and I got an 8 piece drum set as a late birthday present, and 15 year old me tried copying this. Was impossible! 7 years since I started drumming. Drummers like Joey, and bands like Slipknot saved me from suicide attempts. Drumming to early day Slipknot music is still one of the main things I do for a release of every day bullshit.

We have a similar start to our stories, but mine goes different way and that is I've never ever got myself drums.
The reason being I had nowhere to put them. My friend borrowed me his since he was about to attend college and had no time to play anyway. So the only problem was "Where to put them"
I even payed for a garage that was like 20km away from my home which was like $15 per month which was all my money I've got for a month from my summer job.
Even though I did all of this I played on the drums like 5 times before a guy that lived like 800m away started complaining.
Then I changed the strategy and decided I'd spend $15 per month on a teacher, which has drums and a spare one so anyone willing to practice can...
Well, if you really wanna drum, 1 hour per week doesn't cut it and the spare drums set was always taken by someone else since he had +50 kids to teach...
Well... I just took the loss and said that someone doesn't want me to play drums and instead I played piano for 8 years, tried guitar (didn't like it very well) then bass which I've always loved a really significant bass sound in the band (Japanese bands get this really well - the slaps n' picking are so extreme in Japanese bands I love it)
But even if I'd like to play any other instrument, I just don't have the time anymore ...

This is probably the best live performance Slipknot and Joey ever delivered and certainly one of the experiences that I will never forget. I and my bud, in our secondary school uniform, cycled for more than 10 km to get a shady looking/overpriced copy of this DVD from a nameless dark corner CD store in Hanoi, Vietnam back when I was about to enter my teenager. It was the first time I heard something that exciting, hooked so hard on the drum and the styles and together with Sepultura, Slipknot carried me through the year.. . RIP Joey J.

When I saw this first time on the DVD, it blew my mind. Dreamed that night of Joey, he was in my town and he had put his drums on a trike. Full set on a trike. Heard this insane solo coming near and getting louder. Suddenly he appears on this large trike with drums on it. Instantly lost my mind, fanboyed the hell out. Joey was very friendly and approachable. Then he asks if I wanna try the drums and he did not finish that sentence, I was already on the trike. Rolled around town beating the shit out the drums with a sick solo. When people stopped and asked whose it was, I answered "Joey Jordison from Slipknot, he's my buddy".
    Best dream I've ever had.
How I wish I could've met you in real life, Joey. You propelled me into the world of drums. Wherever you may be, I hope you're okay.

Supposedly he just passed away peacefully in his sleep. Not hearing anything about bad health, drugs or suicide yet. If it's true that he died naturally at 46, that's terrifying; although I knew a guy who supposedly died of natural causes in his sleep at 20 years old. You never know when the body decides to just give up. It's like we can malfunction like a car, and that's it. Any damn day now. Count your blessings, and hug your loved ones. You never know...

He had a rare type of Multiple Sclerosis. I believe he was dealing with the disease already before he left Slipknot. He said in an interview that he beat the illness, but not much is known after that. But to me, it doesn't matter what the reason for his death is. If the family doesn't reveal it, we will never know for sure. All we can do is remember him for the amazing artist he was. RIP
