@@SDSBBQs Honestly I don't think using a scrubber is going to hurt it. But have you tried just letting some common white vinegar sit in it, or even heaat it up a little (not boiling). Vinegar will easily dissolve those minerals. That's how I've always cleaned kettles. Just give it a rinse with clean water after the vinegar and you're good to go. Vinegar isn't toxic.
I totally agree that scrub brush doesn't "hurt" the surface at all. I also haven't tried using vinegar. I tent to usually start scrubbing before trying more passive methods when it comes to cleaning. But I;ll keep it in mind when I am feeling lazy the next time I need to clean it rally well. Thanks!
Other than what others have already said about not cleaning with a metal scrub brush or some similar metallic scrubber, I loved your video. So far it’s the best I’ve watched - lots of questions answered. Thank you for your video. I hope to watch more of what you may put on-line in the future.
Manufacturer forbids using steel wool!!!! All distillers come with Citric Acid put 2 spoons and fill the container with water and let it boil for 20 minute empty water and ready to use -- This is the way not to scratch and damage the tank surface!!!!!!
Wasn't aware you could actually clean it with a metal scrubber, I use citric acid and boil it in there and it comes clean. How do you clean the top coils? I have had mine since February, so almost a year now and it just stopped working. I noticed the coils were dusty so I cleaned them with a straw brush, but it still will not turn on. Tried contacting vevor to no avail. Very upset because I need it for drinking and medication.
Ohhhhh, I bet you're right about that weird metal thingie (which isn't mentioned in the hilariously useless instructions). At the risk of asking something stupid: is it normal for the outside of the distilling canister to be just about hot enough to burn skin when it's working? Thanks!
Not really I just put it down into the metal part of the spout. And I haven't changed mine just yet. When I'm done I just let them dry and keep it moving.
Yes it did that is why I used it a few times before cleaning it ti really show how dirty it got. I am lucky though some folks have reported it looking tat bad after one run of water through it.
Try vinegar instead of scrubbing. The vinegar breaks down the calcium deposits from the hard water. I di this to my CPAP water tank if I don't have Distilled water for a couple of days or more. I can clean without scrubbing using vinegar. Great clip my friend. Thanks Mo Butta Baby!!!
I'd clean it when needed. You should be able to see when it needs to be cleaned with use depending on the things is pulls out of your water or whatever else you are using it for.
@@SDSBBQs last night I found a red button at the back. I switched that on and then the shine button and it works. My other machine k lying had one button so I wasn't looking for a second one. It wax very stressful because I didn't see anything on instructions concerning the red button which was at back of machine. Thanks for your reply 👍
Try vinegar next time. All you need is a little vinegar and a little water and all that stuff at the bottom will clear up but make sure it sits for about 30 minutes. You can then use soap and water to clean and rinse.
Thanks, since posting I have gotten quite a few tips and tricks from others that use the distiller way more than I do. If you have time take a look at some of the other comments.

Louie. Thank you for watching and commenting! In the directions, it's recommended to use citric acid to clean the distiller and / or running a small amount of diluted white vinegar should do the trick. If even after cleaning the still and your distilled water still is nasty... the water might just be too bad to start? Hope this helps. Best of luck!
@@SDSBBQs That'll be because you used steel wool on the inner lining. You see, by doing that you've permanently scratched and damaged layers in there. There's a good chance that certain metals from that are now leaching into your water and getting carried up with the steam. As for the activated carbon filters, those are for VOCs. Volatile Organic Compounds. These range from industrial runoff, to fuel, to glues, etc. None of them are something you want in your water, and many of them are present in "safe" amounts in tap water across the world. It still blows my mind to this day that people genuinely assume the improvement in taste is just magical carbon dust, and stop looking into it there. It is not. Incidentally, you can run your water through a seperate filter before or after to do this as well. So long as they use activated carbon, you're good. It is exceptionally good at trapping VOCs. (That part almost really is like magic.) Just replace them every 1-3 months or so.
The directions said not to use steel wool to clean it with…
Oh really... Goes to show I didn't read the instructions. Distiller is still working tip top though despite.

This.
Thanks bro. But you gotta take this video down. You are doing it wrong!
Except, of you have really hard water, that don't work.

I admit I have never cleaned the coils. I do also run other things through mine (wink, wink) so it might be a bit cleaner than yours.
How often do you change the filter inside the spout??
I haven't yet but I also don't use it all that often. I haven't even looked into where I can find replacements.

The outside does get very warm while in use.
Is there a specific way the filter its into the filter assembly? Also, how many uses do you get out of a single filter?

Thank you for the response !!! @@SDSBBQs
I put about 5 filters into my sprout and change every two years
I was wondering about how often to change the filter?
The carbon filter? I don't use my distiller all that often so I am not sure.
I have been using mine for about 2 years. The fan blades and side vents are filthy. How do i clean the top?
I am sure the top grate can be removed or you may have to stick a bottle brush or q-tips down there to knock off the dust/lent.
Thank you for this! I used it a few times and didn't clean it out, and thought I messed it up. Love it!
Glad I could help!
Nice to hear it's still running well for you. That stainless interior sure cleaned up easily👍😊

Thank you so much for this video! Just got this machine and have been confused about a few things you mentioned 😂
Sure thing, glad I could help. I, too, had a few times where I scratched my head.
I have a vevor. I use it for my humidifiers and steam cleaner.

That's the way to do it! Cleaning vinegar, specifically. so easy.
Great video. Thanks......using vinegar/citric acid here but otherwise, your instructions are great!
Thanks for watching!
The bestvway to clean is just some vinegar in the bottom maybe half an inch high keft overnight
Thanks!
How often do we clean it
I'd clean it when needed. You should be able to see when it needs to be cleaned with use depending on the things is pulls out of your water or whatever else you are using it for.
Mine us brand new and dosnt even switch on.
press that little button on the side. it is a reset switch for when you run it out of water.

"How not to clean your water distiller" should be the name of this video. I use white vinegar (it dissolves the limescale in minutes) and a brush.
Hmm... Thanks but no thanks.
Agreed vinegar is vastly superior and doesn’t cause irreparable damage to the bowl
Citric acid dude
Thanks.

The best way to get rid of a burnt taste in the water is to pack the sprout with carbon filters like 5 of them
If distilling the water makes it pure, then why do you have to run it through a carbon filter afterwards?
It has a bit of a metallic taste after it's distilled. The carbon takes that away.

@anomonyous For the record, it has the metallic taste from the start. Thanks for sharing the rest.
You are supposed to use citric acid to clean it properly from the chemicals.
I am aware but the citric acid does not get out the crust that really dirty water or other things leaves behind.
