  • Our very own Taylor is a therapist. She also loves all things metal music. So we thought let's take both of those things and start a therapist reacts series!
    In this video she's reacting to Sunshine by Beartooth!

    I’m also drawn to metal music because of the mental health connection. I can relate to the songs. I really like the strategy to deal with comparison by asking myself “would I trade entire lives with this person?” It really creates perspective. Great work!

      I can say honestly bands like currents and suicide silence are some of the main reasons I’m still alive today. Metal saved my life. It lets me know I’m not the only one feeling this way.

    Your reactions every time the song switched it up were so infectious and genuine. And the analysis after was so spot on. New sub for sure. I've had this song on repeat since it came out. It's a banger but with so many layers. It's everything you said but the lyrics also deal with seasonal affected disorder and Caleb's literal move from somewhat dreary Ohio to sunny California. Not to mention the symbolism of that physical move mirroring his personal and internal shift towards getting sober and heathier. Can't wait for the new album

      From Mamadien: Oh man this song speaks, doesn't it?? Awesome that you are sharing with a friend who is struggling. We so need to care for each other. We can't do this journey alone. I hate that you too are struggling. Alcohol is such a great numbing agent, isn't it. Boy it can bury the pain for a short while and help us forget not only that we hurt but also sometimes why. But then we can pay an ugly price for it. It beats our body and mind up, eats at our health and doesn't change what's really going on. But while we are drinking it - oh it can be sooo good. But it's only a temporary fix for us. So my friend, you are so worth caring for yourself and your health. Are you getting any help at this time for the alcohol disuse? And are you getting any help for the things that are making you want to numb the pain? You deserve healing my friend, and sunshine and light and life. You matter.

      @@HeartSupport I cannot express how much just this comment meant to me. I've not been getting professional help, though I know I should. It is, by far, the greatest reaction video I have ever seen and that is even before you go into the mental health aspects after the song. I felt like I went on a journey with you simply from your facial expressions. I laughed so many times. What you said and explained after the song also was fantastic. I was MEANT to listen to this video today and I am so happy that I did. Two things, first off this was way more helpful and insightful than I originally thought it would be. It was wild to hear another take on the song I’ve had on repeat for a week. Second, I heard the lyrics “sunshine that will finally show, I might die if I stay in this cold” and my brain immediately jumped to seasonal depression, so in my mind whenever I would listen to this my brain is thinking about SAD and how I really am so much better when the sun finally comes out in the spring. It wasn’t until I heard your take on it that I realized wow she’s right, and now I’m holding both translations of the song in shock and awe of how fantastic beartooth is. Thank you for bringing mental health translations into the metal world❤

    “If you’re only known for something you don’t wanna be known for, then you start to feel unknown.” Ik exactly how this feels. I made a mistake years ago and I feel like that’s all anyone thinks about in the back of their minds.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  11 месяцев назад

      From Wings: Yes, mistakes can be very hard to live down. I'm glad that you identify your perception as a feeling rather than a fact. If you are famous and you make a mistake, it really could follow you for many years, maybe even for life.
      If instead, you interact with a relatively small group of people on a regular basis, it's amazing how quickly you can "overwrite" how others perceive you. When a famous person makes a mistake, those who hear about it form a "snapshot image" of who that person is. Then usually, they hear nothing more about that person, so that snapshot remains intact and that person is forever identified with whatever mistakes they made.
      If your circle of friends and associates is much smaller, and you interact with them on a more regular basis, they gain a far more complete picture of who you are and to what extent you learn from your mistakes. They also come to know how reliable you are. As all this happens, past mistakes fade into distant memory and are surprisingly often, at least functionally, are forgotten.
      You are no longer the person you were when the mistake was made. Having acknowledged the mistake, you are less likely to make a similar mistake than someone who has never made such a mistake. A person can choose to let mistakes become instrumental in gaining wisdom and strength.
      What would you say to a person who made a similar mistake and is now trying to move beyond it?
      There are some people who take pains to remember the mistakes of others, in an attempt to gain psychological advantage and even dominance. I don't think there's much to be done about that, other than to steer clear of them as much as possible.
      Those around you who are decent, are much more concerned about the person that you have reliably proven to be and will perceive you based on who you have been in your recent past.
      Everyone makes mistakes. If they aren't on record, it's because they weren't caught. Yes, many of those who have not been caught look down their noses at those who have. It would be a mistake to resent them for it because such resentment interferes with one's own emotional well-being.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  11 месяцев назад

      From Silentbleu: Hello, thank you for sharing. I think it’s important to remember that we all make mistakes, as it’s part of being human. Your mistake doesn’t define you as a person. I know it’s hard to ignore people’s ideas and opinions about you but I hope you can find peace in trying to focus on yourself and keep improving on that as you go through life.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  11 месяцев назад

      From Mamadien: Oh how that feeling of "now everyone knows me for doing that thing" can sting and burn. When it first happens we really focus on it and likely so do others. But what happens as time goes on? We keep that feeling of this is what I am and it can define us. I hate that. But something happening doesn't have to define who you are as a person. You are much more than that one thing or time in your life. And our feelings may want to keep us tied to that ugly time, but that doesn't have to be. It's okay to redefine yourself to who you really are. The real you. Thank you for posting.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  11 месяцев назад

      From Mystrose: I'm sorry that you're only known for a mistake you made years ago. That doesn't seem very fair and I can see why you feel like you are unknown. The people in your life are not looking past that mistake and not paying attention to the good person you are. Making a mistake is human nature, it's what we do after that counts in my opinion. Maybe you can leave that mistake in the past and let your light shine looking forward. Let the people in your life see you by showing them who you really are and they will come around and see the real you. Take care! You matter!

    @heartsupport feel like i got so much to say and so much work to do to get my mind right but dont even know where to begin.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  8 месяцев назад

      From NateTriesAgain: Yeah it's really hard when you feel like there's this huuuuge chasm between these ideas in your head and your ability to make them happen. It's a depressing gap because it feels so hopeless. It feels like things will never actually happen. Like you're going to die with these things you want to do inside you. And that hopelessness spirals the lack of motivation. Also fear of judgment...fear of failure...fear of getting yourself out there and it not being as good as you thought. Honestly for me, I hide a lot in my head because if I never get it out of my head, no one can tell me I'm a loser. It feels like I can always hide behind the "well I never tried" excuse. I tell myself, "If they only saw what I know I can do." It's a false comfort and keeps me stuck often.
      I suppose what I mean to say is - you're not alone. And you're not crazy for feeling that way. And I appreciate you writing in.
      -nate

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  8 месяцев назад

      From Micro: It's okay if you don't know where to begin yet. Sometimes it feels like there is so many things going on, so much things we've been burying inside, that it gets to find a sense of clarity through it. It's understandable to feel like the stakes are high when you *share* what's on your heart though - it feels as if you need to have it all clarified and put together in a way that makes sense, so that you would be actually heard and understood. But sometimes what feels messy on our end is actually very clear on the side of the person we're talking to. Just to give an example, I personally struglge with anxiety, which can really feel at times like my thoughts are all mixed up and *any* worry that I have gets piled up on top of the others. So internally it feels like this giant pile of knots to untangle, and I just have no freaking idea where to start. But *talking* about it, even if it's not well constructed, and even if it *feel*s messy, usually help me develop that sens of clarity. It's a little like when we wait to feel a certain way before we get into the action we want to take. In many cases, its the action that actually helps us feel a certain way - kind of reversed process compared to our initial expectations.
      I do hope that you can positively answer to this need to talk, just because you feel it and that it's so important to have space where you can express everything you need. There are so many things that we carry on our own but can actually be shared safely. If you would like to give it a try, please know that here you won't be judged for the way you express things. It can actually be a journey *with you* to clarify things and help you organize your thoughts as you express yourself. Sometimes just doing a list of bullet points of all the things that are in our mind/important lately can be a good starting point! All in all, you are never wrong for expressing yourself if it's meant to help you and be a healtht outlet. Know that you're not alone and we are in this with you - as much as you need and as much as you want.
