John, I've watched a lot of various detectorists and I must say - I have tremendous respect for you as an advocate for proper behavior. You enlighten us, the ignorami, to the symbiotic relationship between the detectorist, the farmer, and the treasure trove bureaucrat. Etiquette seems essential to the preservation of the hobby.
well worded, they should make a black list for these kind of events. Anyone that gets caught not filling the wholes should be on it, its very frustrating to see
Great Video John as always and some nice bits up. I'm going to the lothian Relics weekender in a few weeks so hopefully I get some roman for myself there! First Scottish dig too!
It's great to be back watching your videos John thought I'd start with the RCM even though I have about 100 hours to catch up on!! Great video as always some nice finds well saved thanks for sharing keep up the hard work mate 👍
Hi John. I found my first roman coin a couple weeks ago and it was a Tetricus radiate! I was so chuffed!! Well done on all your finds, looks like you guys had a great time 😊
Love your vids John!! Avid beach hunter in Florida but still jealous of the treasures you unearth!! You Sir should have over a 100.000 followers!!!! Top vid on the internet!!! Congrats on the goodies and GET THAT GOLD JOHN!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Im sure the majority of metal detectorists make sure they leave the land how they found it but I really appreciate how considerate you are of the land and land owners. Here I am from California - an 1800s item would blow me away. You find a Roman coin 1700 years old and you can still talk😂 Congratulations !
Awesome tent! Congrats!!! Watched a channel last night that said one field gave up over 10 fibulas, not all Roman. Anxious to find out about the coin, but looks Celtic to me.
Congrats on you, Simon’s and Sneaky Pete’s wonderful finds. Kudos boys. I laughed when you said you travelled 556 miles to get there. Here in Texas, you can easily drive 800+ miles and not get from end to end. Everything is bigger in Texas. I have to drive 4+ hours just to get to an airport to fly out of Texas
Hey fella, welcome to Wiltshire 5 miles down the road from me and the rally run by my club 👍 I would say that is a silver Roman all bay long 👍 safe journey home. M
Looks like you all had a great time! Just a cursory search of old Celtic horse coins makes me think you're right - that little curved bit on the right looks like the necks on nearly all of them! Thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing day 2! :)
Hi John hope you had a good journey back up to home. I am sure you brought me good luck after wishing me that i find a replacement for the hammered coin i lost last week, well i did and not just that is was a full and in great condition and get this, a Alexander 111 "SCOTTISH" penny at detectival. Could not make it up perhaps there are Hammy gods after all!
@@ime6881 we’ve all done it!! It happens. Looks like Detectival was a great weekend and I’m sad we missed it. Naturally I’m blaming Simon 🤣 but to be fair I was just working and the dates don’t suit me, but looked great
Love the new summer hat and nice not to wear wellies. Great to see the lorne sausage too. Oh, and the finds. Congrats John. I'm 3 digs into the Deus and adopted the Jethro programme, wow so stable and loving it. At Detectival this weekend. Take care
An interesting Roman coin there John and as for the possible Celtic coin I thought it looked like a bird not a horse but, you were nearer to it than me. Good to see Pete out with you and Simon and looking forward to the next one.
Well done, John! Finding Roman is always great, but that Celtic piece is outstanding, and the Queen Victoria coin looks like it was lost when it was still a new coin. I hope the coming days will bring in more treasures for you. Too bad about the inconsiderate people who weren't refilling their holes, they must be Sassenach's since the Scot's are more considerate. lol!
Has anyone mentioned you look and sound similar to the actor Paul McGillion, starred in Stargate Atlantis and a few others I think? Anyway, great videos and entertaining. Like your respect for the land and overall presentation. Keep it up!
The Mrs Scottish detectorist must be an incredible woman. She lets you do what you love. You go away with your buddies, you detect on vacation with her. Does she teach wife classes? I’d like to sign up my wife.
Congratulations on the Roman finds John. It looks like the three swingers * are having a great time. When I saw the hammer I thought WOW, neat find!. Anything found here in the US of A that was 200 years old would be a great find. *Swingers of detectors
Awesome video. On my limited knowledge of Celtic coins it looks like one to me. And Roman and Victoria silver too. Well worth the drive. Can’t wait for part 2. Also annoyed at the laziness of some people. It’s not that hard to fill in a hole.
Thanks Tanja. Yes, it’s been confirmed as Celtic but a contemporary forgery! I’ll update on the next video but thanks so much and glad you thought the same as me!!
Thanks for posting this, been looking forward to it as we couldn’t make it. Great to see tho start with both on the road😂 What brilliant finds - 2 Roman and a Celtic 🤩🤩🤩 Fantastic John and hope FLO confirms for you 🤞. Poor Simon not finding much, he needs a Deus 11 ! Hope you all had a good second day and looking forward to the video.
An excellent day bringing up amazing history, a good mix of fields w/ space to spread out (appreciate seeing the map) Beautiful weather, no highland wind to test your bouncy castle blow-up house, but the $64,000. question... did Simon bunk in your dining room? 😅 Can't wait for more! Cheers John & Crew 🍻
Been waiting for this from you John with great anticipation.... Great to see you 3 doing some great dirt fishing, and finding some lovely lost Relics... Its a shame that the Treasure Hunters had to spoil it by not FILLING THEIR HOLES, Always a few that don't care about the rules and do it for greed only...Anyway I enjoyed your video, and hope you had a safe trip back.. Nice one 👍🤓 Cheers , Colin
I agree John. Where I live it is difficult to get permission because of people digging big holes and either not refilling, or, doing a poor job of it. I use a towel to place the extra dirt I dig when finished I can just pour it back in the hole. Being considerate of the land owner.
It looks like you had a pretty good first day. Great on the silver and the Romans, and I do hope your possible Celtic proves to be so. Cheers from Texas.
Looked for you and the guys at the RCM John so ii could say hello but unfortunately didn't see you. Myself and my mate had some success with 2 hammereds, a Roman coin and a few artefacts. We also spent some time filling other peoples holes in. It was bad for that this year, much worse than previous years I've been.
Great vid as per John. I had a great time at the RMC although not much up for me, bumped into some people that i have met in the past and lots of new good folk was all good that is until just know not only did i not have much up i lost a coin. The hammy gods have not been shining down on me for a long while now so as i was about to set off on the road some numpty "ME" decided to take two coins along to do a little test with my machine ( which i never got around to) whilst i was there, one being a 50% silver shilling and the other my first full hammered of the year both in separate clear sealer bags , just emptied my trouser pockets and only one coin the heaver shilling. Note to ones self. STUPID BOY!
The mystery item right after the mangled fork could be part of one of the things that holds carpet in place on the stairs. I can’t remember the proper name for it.

Amazing. 🥲 Tracy you are a star. How on earth did you figure that one out?!? I’m amazed
Looks like one of the better digs to bad people don't respect the landowner more. Thanks for sharing John and hope it is Celtic.

Thanks Tanja. Yes, it’s been confirmed as Celtic but a contemporary forgery! I’ll update on the next video but thanks so much and glad you thought the same as me!!
The silver plated fork is made by Walker & Hall, you can tell by the pennant style flag at the end of the marks. Probably from the late 1800's.

John, the comb is indeed a comb, but from a shearing handpiece.
Lovely bits of Roman and that bit of bronze I’d say definitely a key great video well done, pretty sure that is a Celtic coin also John 😀
