Level 5 is known to fumble marketing so MM didn't take off much during release period. If GB4 has an average story with deep combat and part customization, MM has the better story with deeper combat but limited part customization. Both games can exist in your mecha action library. You don't need to watch the tie-in anime, as both seasons are presented in-game.

@@jactstone the ex skills and burst actions in GB4 made me sad because they feel lacking in oomph even compared to GB3, while MMW made me hype just to launch a rocket punch. Even worse the tracking in GB4 seems to have issues depending on your reaction speed stats that a lot of attacks could easily whiff.

    Gonna straight few things up...
    1. This game actually is a 3rd version, the first is Megaton Musashi released on Nov 2021 for PS4, PS5 and Switch in JP only. Later they released F2P version called Megaton Musashi X (Cross) in Dec 2022. This 3rd version, Megaton Musashi W (Wired) which come out recently on April 2024 adding to not only Steam/PC platform but multi language and cross platform too.
    2. The game isn't based on anime, it's a way around. It have 2 season, which cover until Musashi X, because this Musashi W too have new story inside the game which tell the story after Musashi X.
Oh and if you know and played Danball Senki series, you can tell this game's mechanic isn't that much different ^^

Nice to see more and more people discover this game. I got lucky and saw a trailer before release and also remembered it being mentioned in a hidden gems video when it was still only in Japan. Bought it day one and don't regret it. I only stopped playing to let my brother catch up in the story so we can do missions together, but I really love it so far. Apparently there's even a roguelike mode you can do when you reach endgame.

@@adonchristlael6301 The problem is the pacing. The story could have been delivered in actual gameplay, but instead was an awful balance of 90% VN to 10% gameplay for hours and hours. It needed more gameplay padding - the missions are abysmally short, easy and frequently even interrupted. The gameplay is seemingly built for dynasty warriors scale combat, but gives you 5 weak slow boring enemies instead of 500 at a time.

I played this game on Switch and I enjoyed it a lot. The combat and mech stuff is pretty cool. I definitely wish it less loot to it…like I wouldn’t mind not having to go through so much every single time, but that isn’t really a nit pick.
My only big con with this one is that the guy DOES. NOT. SHUT. UP. When you are in the story sections. I once counted I think skipping 17 cutscenes/dialogue moments before it FINALLY gave me controls again. That is actually what made me put it away. There’s just way way way way too much story and cut scenes to it. And it’s not like the story is bad. It’s your fairly stereotypical anime thing, but I just didn’t care when I’m on my 15th dialogue moment and I haven’t touched the good part of the game in 30 minutes.

Megaton Musashi and GB4 have OVERWHELMING customization options. MM is $55 and GB4 is $65 on the PS4 PSN. I would spend more time looking at parts and creating different robot designs for ether game. Since I already have a bunch of PS2 Gundam and mech games and Ps3 Gundam games, I will probably get Megaton Musashi since it combines gundam with a power rangers since power rangers use robots to kill aliens. I have both Zone of enders , Gundam in space, gundam vs federation, Gundam never ending tomorow, Gundam Another Century episode R, gundam Vs, Gundam extreme vs, gundam Maxi versus boost, Gundam Fairy operations, War Tech, hard core mecha, LBX, giga bash.

I forgot this game existed primarily because there was no advertising for it. I only just remembered it popped up because I was watching a random review of it a couple months ago before gundam breaker 4 came out and what I am seeing here is looking well and this game looks awesome but it never got any word of mouth from people nor did I even see a commercial or anything resembling a trailer for it. I mean it's a level 5 game so I know it's gonna be a good one but man does it suck that this didn't get any commercials regarding it or any ADS regarding it but then you go to gundam breaker 4 and you see a whole bunch of commercials for that. I will say this at least GB4 has an english dub which is good but the story I would say this game does it way better because it's not restricted to trying to copy from something that already exist but I'm not gonna spoil it even though there's not really much to spoil. Good job in trying to raise more awareness for this game!

My biggest issues with MM are the customization and the player base. Customization becomes a HUGE chore and even on a multiplyer day the parts yield is still abyssmal. Worse still, some of the best parts are on Megaton 2 mode, but you'd be a godsend if you could solo it! The worst however is the player base beacause it's on life support; you'd be lucky to have a god player help you on Megaton 2 but if no one's active, you're f'ed! Colosseum mode, forget it it's dead; I know, I tried to connect to an arena, but I get nothing.
MM could have been promising, but with Level 5 doing Level 5 things, it just makes the game forgetable. With all the flaws it has, does it make it a bad game? No. Does it hold up to GB4? No. Should you get it on sale? Probably. Can it co-exist with GB4 and any other game with similar features? Absolutely!

The game is reaaaally good, but i have my gripes with it:
    1. During story mode you HAVE to pilot 3 mechs with their own individual parts. So if Robot B and C (You are Robot A) dont have the same kind of power build you have.... they are one shotted and or underpowered.
    2. The build system is overly complicated.
    3. The skill tree is overwhelmingly flooded with things you might or might not even use later down the road depending on your build.
Other than that the combat is flourishing and the story is mildly entertaining. If the 3 things above dont bother you than i say pick it up!

Third 100 was sunk cost fallacy of grinding the end game. Stop somewhere in the first 100 hours is my recommendation. You'll think you want to see the end game parts, but they're really not different even ignoring that 90% of them are literally just tiered up versions of earlier parts. It's just annoying bigger numbers and somehow worse grinding because the bonus stats on the higher tier parts is significantly worse to get the rolls you'd want instead of stupidly niche specific bonuses.

While I feel like there's a lot to be said about this game with it's presentation and good it is its low are the most severe and aggravated kick to the shins I've ever had the dis/pleasure of playing.
There is exact 5 melee combat styles. Sword and Shield, Twin Swords, Great Sword, Spear and Knuckles with one or two extra unlockable attack/combo strikes added. The combat is INSANELY Shallow. with no actual combos beyond a full string of square or mash for light weapons and a hold for heavy.
To put this into a more DMC style translation, you don't have stinger, or a toss up (beyond knuckles CHARGED UPPERCUT THAT DOESN'T COMBO) you lack any real timing for hits and I'll break down the issues as I go.
While you have three equipable melee slots you can't hotswap mid combo, so linking weapon attacks together isn't possible, which is further compounded with the addition of elemental and damage type damage weaknesses. Combine that with how this game has tons of tutorials and somehow STILL won't tell you things is a testimony to how awkward this game is.
Best example is with S-Adapters, you earn this through doing Stronghold missions after the appropriate plot point occurs the game goes out of its way to tell you how to earn them and upgrade them but never ACTUALLY TELLS YOU HOW TO EQUIP THEM.
And if you dig into the subreddit you learn where all of this falls into the biggest problem this game has, Megaton 2 difficulty is where the bone of this really well made steak. The problem is this bone is made from concrete and you are expected to bite it full stop at least once and this is such an unfair and unexpected difficulty "picks up the table to bash your skull in with it" this unless you like Korean grinder MMO's will competely kill the game for you.
The level of optimization you NEED to even Start Megaton 2 difficulty is borderline abuseive.
And you'd think, oh it's just optional postgame stuff what's the problem, well there is actual content Locked behind that difficulty that you can't obtain or interact with without it.
Like know this was a one point a freemium game in japan but holy hell it felt like Megaton 2 was designed to only be played by people who sunk 30,000$ into the most hate filled gatcha imaginable.
I mean this with all my heart, this game was a solid 8.5 for me, but the sheer asinine powerjump from megaton to megaton 2 knocked this down to a 6. I actually makes me sad.

I bought the game for full price after all review vids I watched called it a hidden gem - but I stopped playing after a little over eight hours. While the base gameplay mechanics are good and functioning, the mech upgrade system is a little convoluted and the early missions are little more than linear tubes which get cordoned off at regular intervals to defeat generic enemy waves until a boss appears. Not to mention that the side quests in town exploration mode are terribly tedious.
The worst offenders to my mind, however, are the story, characters and world building. The hero is the most bog-standard "strong delinquent with a heart of gold" stereotype, most characters surrounding him are also tired anime tropes, the premise of the world is ridiculously implausible and the unfolding plot clumsily tries to mix shonen action, romance and sci-fi mecha soap opera fan service.
Overall, I think grinding through the bits outside the main game action isn't worth it unless you're a die-hard mecha and Level5 fan with a high threshold against bad anime cliché writing.

    • @JarboeGaming
      @JarboeGaming  2 месяца назад +2

Regarding your point about the worst offenders being story, characters, and world building:
Yes, the main character fits into that stereotype and the story can seem to drag on, especially in the beginning. But I found it to be... alright. It seemed to peak around the middle of the game for me and I thought some of the characters and their motives were actually pretty interesting. It's just that that interesting stuff is buried under hours of dialogue.
The story didn't change my life, that's for sure, but I vastly preferred it over GB4's, which I'm reviewing now.
I think the game would benefit massively from having a way to either skip the story completely, or having some other game mode that lets you just get straight into the action with all the games mechanics unlocked. Some are pretty big and you don't get them until your pretty damn far into the story.
Still standby my statement though that it's a good buy at 24.99, ESPECIALLY after playing through GB4.

I had more time in a week of GB4 than I had in months of MM. Both have meh stories but GB4 is far superior for mech customisation and the story parts at least don't take you out of the fight for as long. MM really gets the balance between story and action horribly wrong but if MM had more mechs to chose parts from it could have been a lot closer.

    • @JarboeGaming
      @JarboeGaming  2 месяца назад

@@Sideswipe79 I think individual part customization is superior in GB4, but I really prefer the gameplay feel of MM.
It would have benefited from condensing the story, 100% agree with you in the story seeming to drag, especially in the beginning.

The story js pretty bad, but the game has a really fun, breezy progression/build curve... Right until you hit the endgame. Up until then you usually always have a new mission or challenge to take on and you can temporarily ignore anything you arent enjoying.
Endgame flattens all of that. There are no stages or enemy horde fights anymore, the only thing left to do is DPS check boss fights with strict time limits. Skill is secondary to stats at this point and if you get burnt out grinding the same boss for rank, too bad. You can jump into the fortress mega-dungeon which does have rewards worth chasing, but it will be a brainless cakewalk because it doesnt have a megaton 2 difficulty option.
    Fun game, terrible endgame.
