Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer made a movie called "Dies Irae" from 1943, it talks about protestant church persecution against supposed witches and the hypocrisy of religious authorities.
About "Station Eleven" is really great. Is a slow burn and it is centered around how art is one of the things that makes us human and how the metamessage from an artwork can leak different in different people.
You reminded me of a book I read decades ago called Supernova. Can't remember the author, but one of the characters was a professional dreamer who did performances, his audience would see what his dreams were live. Also, don't know if you have seen this or would be interested but I am recommending a short AI video on RUclips called Pooky Park, which has been haunting me for weeks. Thank you for your videos.
Hmmm, that Supernova book sounds awesome! Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it. If you are able to remember an author or anything please let me know, I'd love to read it!
Just wanted to comment and say that I really enjoy the content you and your brother are putting out. Helps me get through my work day listening to cool things like these.
Read Station 11 a few years back, not seen the series. Book was good, pretty short, well-written. A few people in work are watching the series & say it's great. When did serials become series btw? Read This Immortal a few weeks ago, liked it a lot, quite humorous.
Yea, I got excited about that Deus Irae movie for a second as well... Hopefully, someone does adapt the Zelazny book. Dark Carnival definitely hooked me back into reading, very enjoyable! I have some Philip K. Dick books coming in, so I'll be able to read along with your brother when he goes back to him. Maybe I'll read along since I did find Executioner and Claw at the same time at the local bookstore. Great update!
About the Dream Machine topic, I would suggest "The Cell" with Jennifer Lopez and of course Paprika. Also "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", in case it has not been mentioned.
Love the channel! Just bought the Earthsea books after watching your reviews. Book of the New Sun is the best and Claw is one the best reads of the series. Don’t forget to read the coda, the Urth of the New Sun after you finish the series; otherwise nothing from the books will make sense. Also the Book of the Long Sun and the Book of the Short Sun…
Station 11 was a very nice surprise when it showed up - give it a shot, even though it's slow burn, not life changing scifi it gets better and has some good themes in it. I'm not sure if I would have survived the second ep if I wasn't on lockdown bored out of my mind, tbh. 😂
Though they are using the title Deus Irae, it seems to be actually based on an older writing titled 'Dies Irae' or 'day of wrath'/'judgement day'...have you guys reviewed Cronenberg's 'Crimes of the Future'?....I mentioned to your brother, Le Guin's 'Lathe of Heaven' (the old PBS version) for the Dream Series...Ray Bradbury from Illinois wrote 'Dandelion Wine' (not sci fi) which is almost like a fever dream of my own childhood growing up in Illinois, love his nostalgic style...lastly you might check out the animation 'Gandahar' based on an Asimov story....

Agreed. Great, great show. More flashbacks in future episodes. One of the best SF shows I saw during Covid. Recommended.
Gonna keep going with it!
Thanks for the mention! Looking forward to the dream machine video!

Hey if you and Virgil did a deep read of any of the New Sun series it would be amazing, please go for it!
