Hands down Keyflower. Not only is the worker placement used for area control/influence and activating actions, but can also be used as bids and be swapped between players. Way better than just the basic place and take an action.
I would have to say my favourite is still Lords of Waterdeep. It was the first worker placement game I played and to this day it’s almost like a comfort food when we pull it out to play.
My favourite wp game is Lorenzo Il Magnifico. It adds a twist to the traditional worker placement mechanic, as workers have "strenght" according to a dice roll, that affects all players equally.
Agricola Is still my favourite. Having the possibility of increasing the number of workers mitigated by the upkeep costs makes it one of the most interesting in worker placement in my eyes.
If you haven't already, perhaps you'll like Dune: Imperium, since there, the tradeoff of having more workers is having less cards for the showdown/buy phase, since you must play them for each worker placed. So not only is there an upkeep cost, you also decide which cards to place workers with(and use the upper "placement" effects of), and which ones to keep for showdown & purchases. Might be more interesting than uniform food
My favourite worker placement game is Architects of the West Kingdom. I love the fact that, despite being a worker placement game, it doesn't have the "reset phase". I really dislike the "reset phase" because I feel it slows down the flow of the gameplay.
Favourite WP game is Lords of Waterdeep. There are many others but I fell in love with that game for various reasons, one of them being its theme!!! Good luck to everyone!!!
Pillars of the Earth will probably always be my favorite worker placement game, because it was the first one I ever played, and it was one of the original worker placement games!
Worker Placement is by far my favourite game mechanic. We've recently learnt classics AGRICOLA and VITICULTURE and enjoyed them both. I really enjoy LORDS OF WATERDEEP, TARGI, and CAYLUS 1303. But my favourite is RAIDERS OF THE NORTH SEA. I really like the method of one on/one off, and the way the workers escalate as you work on the board. And other than the colour of Meeple you need, it never really blocks a spot in the village which is clever too.
Great range of wp games for sure, two of which are my favorites- Viticulture and Raiders of the North Sea. Thanks for commenting and for your support as always!
well done! I learned a lot altough worker placement games are my favorites in general. Stone Age is the mother of all worker placements, and i still play it online for now and then...But my absolutely favorite is archtects of the west kingdom ( with all the expensions )
One of my favorite mechanisms and my favorite is (drumrolllll) Architects of the west kingdom. Different paths to victory and the concept of sending others to jail so you can profit from it like a dirty schemer is just brilliant. Now of course I am really curious to try Philosophia. Cheers
Everdell is my favourite worker placement game! The artstyle is so beautiful that it just brightens my day! Thanks for the giveaway and good luck to all :)
I've been meaning to try Terraforming Mars' 3rd expansion! Good to hear you're a fan of it - I'll have to try and get my hands on it! Thanks for commenting ☺
@@cogitodesign yeah they tried to add worker placement and I think it worked really well. I like when one of the colonies fills up with resources and everyone forgets about it until I become first player and first turn after filling up with more resources I start placing those workers
Two things I want to point out. First of all, there is NO added benefit to players going last in Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar. Why? Because it doesn’t really matter. If you go first, you pay lower corn costs. If you go last, you get to move up the gears faster, but you have to pay more corn for it. I think this is actually the most balanced solution for the “first player advantage” problem. The other thing is, normally, passing the first player marker does NOT mitigate unfairness. For example, in a three-player game with four rounds, somebody will end up holding the first player marker twice.
Yes, this is a fair point. The designers of Tzolk'in have clearly spent a long time balancing this issue. I wonder whether mathematically paying lower corn costs or moving up the gears faster are perfectly balanced but they must be close. Agreed on the issue of passing the first player marker. It is not a perfect solution especially with uneven player numbers. Thanks for your thoughtful and helpful comment.
Hi, thanks for the give away! Just got floating world in the mail, can't wait to play it! So many great worker placement games out there... I'd have to say Anachrony is my current favorite.
My favorite is Architects of the West Kingdom, but I still don't have it yet. Hoping I could have one by next year if budget fits... Good luck everyone!!!
My favorite work placement game is Viticultu Essential Edition. I like to play this game, drinking a bottle of wine and trying to win that game. I always lose but I always enjoy to play it too much
I love Viticulture, and the Tuscany expansion makes it that much better. I don’t love the specialized workers though. They just don’t seem to be all that useful.
I dont usually play lots of worker placement, but i think Architects of the west kingdom is my favourite from among those i played. Easy to learn and doesn't have much text to it so its more of intuitive gameplay.
I was trying to highlight the confusion regarding how worker placement is defined (so it worked 🤣). Thanks for your comment and glad you enjoyed the video!
“This war of mine” has been a solo worker placement game I enjoyed a lot during quarantine. We just got “Floating World” in the mail last week! Yay! It’s my 9 y old daughters new favorite game. We’ve played it a few times now using different characters. I love how pretty it is and so easy to teach my daughter!
This war of mine is fantastic! I talk quite a bit about it in our emergence video. They did a great job with that game - so thematic through great story-telling. So pleased to hear you received you copy of Floating World and that it's a favorite! Amazing! We love to hear news like this, thanks for letting us know. Comments like this really make it all worth it! Thanks again for your support ☺️
Bought ever Dell on sale right before the pandemic started and still haven't played. Feels bad man. Anyways another amazing video from an amazing Channel I like worker placement but I really love simultaneous play which makes me think an option with a grid that you choose which action you're going to take could be interesting with the benefits of that action decreasing the more players who take it let's say there's only 16 auctions available you could have the letters ABCD and the numbers 1 2 3 4 and you get to play four actions. Not sure if this might induce analysis process and others as it would in me. It would give you the benefit of being able to asymmetrically improve your abilities based on letters numbers or both but with players need to decide whether if you want a more balanced strategy whether more flexible have a really strong a column are really strong number one column etc
Sounds like an intriguing twist on the mechanic. Our last game was simultaneous (Philosophia: Floating World) so we know how much of a challenge it can be to add that into a game! But the fast-paced nature and never having to wait for your turn is, I think, worth it. That being said we found some people were put off by this as they feel rushed.
Probably Caverna from Uwe Rosenberg, along with Agricola it was my introduction to board games (beyond Monopoly and Risk) and I loved it from the start. My favorite feature of Caverna specifically is probably the complete absence of luck or chance in the game. You can always know exactly what you’ll get out of an action with the only thing blocking your plans being the other players.
Worker placement games are one of my favorite mechanics. Anachrony and Lost Ruins of Arnak are my favorite worker placement games since I have a hard time choosing between the 2.
My favourite worker placement game is Viticulture with the Tuscany Expansion. It turns a very good game into one of the all time best. The worker placement is excellent, with turn order being integrated into your choices as mentioned in the video, and although action spots are limited it never feels entirely as if you are pushed out of the game, there's always something you can do, or at least that you could have done to prevent yourself being edged out. You do need to go in recognizing that it's half worker placement, half card game (under estimate the value of the Visitor cards at your peril!). I only wish the mechanical aspect of harvesting grapes and turning them into wine was a) slightly less fiddley and b) a bit more thematically accurate to the actual wine making process! (That wouldn't bother everyone, but it's so wrong and so obviously wrong that for me it does break the spell a bit.)
Great point, I agree that it could be improved if it was more thematically accurate. The luck of which cards you get can also be an issue. I still absolutely love this game though despite these little 'glitches'! Thanks for commenting and good luck in the giveaway!
Well for me, my favourite worker placement game has to be the one that raised my interest in boardgames to the point where it is now: Viticulture. I've played since a lot more, but the thematic integration of this one makes it pop always as my favourite Worker placement game! Honourable mentions to Shem Phillips, always adding twists in a nice way to this genre!
@@cogitodesign I also love it for its theme, when answering the question "What kind of boardgames do you play? Like Monopoly?" I use the theme of Viticulture for explaining how much more this world has to offer :)
@@draecodefan That's a great idea! I find the same, whenever I mention board games people just assume Monopoly. I will use Viticulture as an example in the future, thanks!
I've really only messed with Worker Placement in Carcassonne and 1 game of Scythe. Carcassonne is one of my absolute favorite games! Would also love to try Viticulture or Everdell sometime
I'm new to your channel but this video was great. Keep it up! My favorite worker placement game...tough one. I think I'll have to go with Dune Imperium, although that's a bit of a hybrid.
Worker placement is about action allocation. The game "the captain is dead" makes it very intense and personal as workers have a face, which makes you feel it almost as an RPG. The videogame version of this boatd game completes the experience.
I have a pretty simple definition of worker placement: you have a handful of workers and you put them on the board to do some actions. Any game that does this thing are worker placement games in my eyes. Some call games like Istanbul and Teotihuacan worker placement games, but they don't feel anything like games such as Agricola, Viticulture or Stone Age. In Istanbul and Teotihuacan you don't have a pool of workers but you're moving pieces on the table. If that's worker placement, then Monopoly is a worker placement game.
This War of Mine: The Board Game. I like historical places like Greece 🇬🇷 and like the great or Second World War. Those stories give you more relatable emotions because you’re outside the numbers and facts and you’re getting personal involved. You’re there they were the same age. This could’ve happened to me born in the wrong time wrong place.
i always have a terrible time saying what my favorite is about anything, but i'll try. My favorite worker placement game as a worker placement game is probably still Agricola. It was the first heavier game in my collection and it's still what i think of when you say "worker placement." That being said, my current favorite game that contains worker placement (loosely defined) is Obsession. A the most interesting, creative use of worker placement i've played is Red Outpost.
My favourite worker placement games are Scythe, Anachrony, Trickerion and Tzolk'in. I really enjoy this type of games. I'm certain they're my favourites.
Mine are Beyond the Sun and Arnak. Some nice catchup mechanics in those. Keyflower is also an interesting blend of mechanics that mesh well. Cytosis and Cellulose have a really nice educational theme that helps you learn both biology & how the games work, at the same time. Viticulture plays around with first-turn advantage compensation in clever ways. I'm interested in Bora Bora and Tzolk'in, with how they twist the blocking aspect in interesting ways, but haven't gotten to play with them
My favourite is Raiders of Scytia. Game offers very interesting dilemma. Should I sacrifice benefit from action space just to pick a worker needed for my next turn? Maybe it will be better for now just to gather resources and wait for better opportunity as someone will drop a worker that I need to a better spot? Great game offers series of interesting choises. Definitely this is a great game.
Hmm.. tricky question. Carcassonne is a classic with easy play, Lost Ruins of Arnak makes a great version of the mechanic but I probably like the ones with a broader story best. Holding On, the Billy Kerr game and This War of Mine are top notch!
I'm new in worker placement game still, so cannot say have yet a favourite one! I have enjoyed Everdell, however looking forward to receive Darwin's Journey from KS to finally play it in person (loved the graphic and playing it on TTS)
Thanks for this informative & entertaining video. I think my favorite worker placement game would be Takenoko because it's pretty. Tzolkin is the one of the best but I'm afraid it's too complicated for me. I also like the recent game A War of Whispers where you can get agents in different kingdoms at the same time to help or to hinder a realm.
Oh there are so many wp games i love. Ancient world is one of my favorite. Love the artwork (big fan of All Laukat games). Love the titan mechanic. But i enjoy playing anachrony (still have to try the latest ks espansions), everdell, Orleans (more for the bag building part), lords of Waterdeep (with the espansion). And i almost forgot Terramara and the future placement gimmik.

My favourite is Everdell. The game design is quite beautiful and its about the decisions you make in the game and not very luck based which I love
Too much luck in any game can spoil it so I totally agree. Everdell is a great game and very beautiful!
My fave of all is the King of Worker Placement games, "A Feast for Odin", Uwe Rosenberg's Viking polymino masterpiece.
Fantastic choice, thanks for commenting!
Stone Age, it's definitely on the simpler side of things but it's also one of the first games added to my collection.
Cool! Thanks for your comment and good luck in the giveaway!

Still enjoying the Village.

My fav is Viticulture. For the two reasons mentioned in the video...Grande worker and worker placement phase to decide who goes first for the round ;)

Those stories give you more relatable emotions because you’re outside the numbers and facts and you’re getting personal involved. You’re there they were the same age. This could’ve happened to me born in the wrong time wrong place.
Great choice, thanks for commenting and good luck in the giveaway!
Trickerion is my fav worker placement game.
Great choice and thanks for commenting!
My favorite worker placement game is a quite older one... Village 😊
Awesome!
My fave is Agricola. It’s fun! I always love farming simulation video games and Agricola is my go-to worker placement boardgame ❤️
Awesome! Thanks for your comment ☺️
You should try Uwe's other games like Fields of Arle.
i always have a terrible time saying what my favorite is about anything, but i'll try.
My favorite worker placement game as a worker placement game is probably still Agricola. It was the first heavier game in my collection and it's still what i think of when you say "worker placement."
That being said, my current favorite game that contains worker placement (loosely defined) is Obsession. A the most interesting, creative use of worker placement i've played is Red Outpost.
Nice! Thanks so much for your comment!
My favorite worker placement that I've played is Agricola
Good choice!
My favorite worker placement game is After the Empire 🔥
Cool! Thanks for your comment and good luck!
Carson City is my fav. with the unique twist on wp.
Nice choice! Good luck in the giveaway!
My favourite worker placement games are Scythe, Anachrony, Trickerion and Tzolk'in. I really enjoy this type of games. I'm certain they're my favourites.
Great list of games, thanks for commenting!
Scythe is not worker placement, it’s action selection.
Actually Scythe is a combination of many mechanics. That's what it makes so great.
My favourite worker placement is Raiders of the North Sea 🤩
Great choice!! 🙌 Thanks for entering the giveaway!
I'm interested in Bora Bora and Tzolk'in, with how they twist the blocking aspect in interesting ways, but haven't gotten to play with them
Nice! I haven't tried Keyflower, I'll have to take a look. It sounds interesting! I'd recommend giving Tzolk'in a try for sure!
Great choice, such a good game! Thanks for commenting and good luck in the giveaway!
Hmm.. tricky question. Carcassonne is a classic with easy play, Lost Ruins of Arnak makes a great version of the mechanic but I probably like the ones with a broader story best. Holding On, the Billy Kerr game and This War of Mine are top notch!
Great choices! This War of Mine is fantastic!
I'm new in worker placement game still, so cannot say have yet a favourite one! I have enjoyed Everdell, however looking forward to receive Darwin's Journey from KS to finally play it in person (loved the graphic and playing it on TTS)
Awesome! Hopefully the physical copy of Darwin's Journey doesn't take too long to reach you. Thanks for commenting!
Agricola is a true modern classic!
Awesome, thanks for your comment!
My favorite worker placement game is Fields of Arle
Awesome choice!
For the deckbuilder episode, would you also touch the deck deconstruction/wrecker/unbuilder subgenre? They seem to be underrated
Sorry we missed this one, I'm sure we'll get to it in a future episode!
@@cogitodesign that's fine, just see it as an excuse for extra content! :P
Looking forward to the deckbuikder episode!
@@revimfadli4666 Cheers! The deck-building video is out now so please enjoy 🤩
@@cogitodesign thanks!
Viticulture takes the cake for my favorite!
Ohhhh me too! Thanks for commenting!
Feast for Odin is my fav!
Great choice, thanks for your comment!
My favorite and most played is Raiders of the North Sea!
Great choice, I'm a big fan too!
Awesome, thanks for your comment and good luck!
What an amazing selection of wp games! Glad to hear this mechanic is a favorite of yours, us too!
Thank u for your useful and well-explaining videos. My favorite worker placement game is Robinson Crusoe: adventures on the cursed island
Thanks so much for your kind words, really pleased to hear you're enjoying the videos! Thanks for your comment and good luck in the giveaway!
