    Thank you so much. I just watched a video where the guy had state of the art tools so I was glad you are a good and kind home boy. I didn't know you could add a screen already encased. I will have to figure out how to do that. Why can't I just use wood glue instead of chiseling holes and screws?

    Loved this! Need a screen door for my chicken house and I was thinking of surprising my woodworker husband by making it myself. I am pretty comfortable with tools since I took wood shop in 7th and 8th grade back in the 80s but I lack common sense in the simple things such as your tip in placing the slat board perpendicular to the two side pieces to know overall width helping to know quickly the measurement needed for the slats!! So smart!! Thank you. Now, I just need to figure out where in the shop my hubby keeps that jig 🤣🤣

      Max the Kraig screws are size, depending upon the thickness of the wood that you were using. so you’ll need to read the box to determine which screw is the proper length

    Thank you. Built two this weekend. One for the front door one for the back door. Measured, cut, laid out, squared and then temporarily fastened. Cut the plywood cleats to fit at the joints of stiles and rails, top, center and bottom. Glued, screwed. Painted. Laid screen over openings, stretched, stapled and covered with wood strips to finish. Hung, hinged. Spring closure. Handle of a branch from the cherry tree. A very funky, artsy screen door duo if I do say so myself. Thank you to all of the great screen door masters for your wonderful inspiration.

      Sure they can be on top. But my measurement of the door width is 1/4 inch less than the door frame, so adding on top of door would make it too wide. A snug fit is best to keep out the bugs.

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  7 лет назад

      Scott, Kreg makes the pocket hole jig and screws, they have a special square drill head driver and screws to match.

      Yes you must use their screws, however they not very expensive. Pay attention to wood thickness, and the screw length 😀

    What in the world did farmers and country folk do without Pockethole Jigs for making a simple screen door?
    Is there any possible way to make a screen door without having to spend that much money on a tool ?

    • @DIYHGP
      @DIYHGP  7 лет назад +4

      Loni, before pocket holes there was tenons. you can make this with tenons, it just will take a bit more work to cut tenons on all of the rails (cross pieces) then you will cut the hole for the tenon, or dado it. I just felt for the time entailed for the beginning woodworker, a $40 Kreg Jr. jig would be much faster and easier.
