I worked as a help desk technician in 2021 for an MSP, and I had to reformat several Windows 7 machines and install Windows 10. I remember looking at that operating system and all sorts of memories flooding my brain. I miss when Windows tried to make their OS feel futuristic and clean instead of an advertising billboard
Plus, the OS really felt friendly and inviting. Win10/11 looks cold, coloreless, and unfriendly. Hell even the logo lost it's iconic multiple colors. Same thing happened to the Office software.
As a 32 year old that grew up with all systems from 95 I would've never thought that Vista/7 would be of anything nostalgic value but as soon as this video started I instantly travelled to 2011 when I had my first notebook with Windows 7. Back then it felt like amazing. I still have it working and I use it to connect with my old BMW. I just realised it has been 13 years and that I am getting old. I am grateful however for all those tech memories I could live and witness first-hand :) Thanks for bringing those good memories back!

Windows 7 is still and always my favorite operating system. I was expecting the next one to be longhorn/xp samsung... or Windows 8.. who knows.
I hope Longhorn isn't forgotten, because it would make a perfect candidate for this.

Fun Fact: Windows 10 still has the Windows 7 start-up sound, but Microsoft turned the start-up sound off by default. To enable it, right-click the sound icon on the right of your taskbar and click the "Sounds" option. Then, a pop-up should appear with the sound settings. Click the "Play Windows Start-up sound" box and click "Apply" and exit. The sound should play the next time you turn on your computer :]
Edit: If there's no sound icon, click the arrow (^) icon on the taskbar and you should see it there.
Pretty good but 1995 ambient is my fav. On loop every other day haha

Grew up going to the office job with my grandma listening to this sound every time we got settled in for the day, loved hearing it. All these years later, it still feels like home. 🥺
I miss those days, and I want an old box computer just to have for myself someday!
This reminds me of certain parts of the soundtrack to the movie Gravity. The spacey visual theme kind of fits with it as well.

I like how you've stuck to the minimalism theme and not gone too overboard! I do wish there was a bit more dominant evidence of the startup sound though like in your earlier Windows work :)

I remember the demonstration disk for vista included in a promotional magazine. I remember it was sort of a good-old-times when computer magazines actually existed, and we were still optimistic about the future. Suppose we never upgraded? what would our lives be like?

Only good thing Microsoft ever did for Vista was default the insane resource heavy Aero settings, such a nostalgic perfect style for frutiger aero back then. Absolutely beautiful and still more beautiful than today's garbage corporate minimal style.

This might be my favorite one yet. Will this be released on Spotify so I can put it on loop while I got to sleep?
The first 8 minutes (in the light) appear to be Windows 7, while the much longer 53 minutes that follow are Vista. The music is also different. I really wish there was a proper, full version of the 7 part
Is it too soon to ask for a Win10 ambience? It might be not as good as the older systems, but with the eminent death of the win10 support i feel like we should look back and remember all the memories we had with that OS. (Although, it uses almost all sound effects from vista/win7)

I really think Vista and 7 should have been separate... sure, they may share some sounds, but aesthetically they're completely different. Vista had the aurora look, while 7 was peak aero
