The original version of the song Headbanger has the lyrics "ichi go no yoru o" which means "on the special night of my fifteenth birthday". Yes the visuals are a huge part of what makes BABYMETAL what they are, so you're not alone in wanting to watch them when you listen to their songs. 'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday. 15 is when compulsory education ends in Japan, so it is also the end of childhood and the first step towards becoming an adult. Great reaction, thanks! You are right, I was in that crowd and yes, this is unique and one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed. Yes, she sang it in a "burikko" (super exaggerated kawaii - cute) style. yeah, once we heard Momo in the song "Metali" Live, we knew there was a possibility of this happening with Headbanger, and yeah she killed it. as far as the song goes, the original is about the girl's 15th birthday, so Yui and Moa got to do this for those birthdays in Paris and Cologne in 2014, and then in 2017 when Su turned 20 she changed the lyrics to 20, and in 2019 Yui was gone so she missed her chance, but in July ,Moa had her special shows. J-Swag: 7:24 "I wonder what her scream is gonna sound like" Me: Sits on the edge of my seat with a shit eating grin.... "Oh my sweet summer child you have no idea what's about to go down lol..."
Moa has stated that she doesn't think it's her place in BABYMETAL to be a singer. She genuinely thinks there's something special about Su's voice. She likes the system they have. Next year it's going to be 15 years of BM. If she felt like her potential is going to waste, don't you think she'd have left years ago? Similarly with Momometal, she stated years ago (even before she joined BM as an avenger) that her dream was to become a backup dancer for a big artist. You can get an idea why they all mesh together so well.
FYI Su first sang 'Headbanger' with the changed lyrics ("special night of my twentieth") at the 'Legend S Baptism XX' concert in Dec 2017, before Moa & Momo did their turns in 2019 & 2024 respectively. If correct, RUclips currently have that 2017 remake by Su as an audio clip, but it's otherwise available as part of the proshot 4K concert release. In fact, look for that whole show while you're at it. It was a very unique spectacle: sixteen BM songs which, because of Yui's sudden withdrawal, ended up with Su & Moa performing as a duo throughout (no third member or backing dancers). Moa valiantly did all the choreography by herself; of course she's incredibly charismatic & the camera loves her. But the stage otherwise looked bare with the Kami band deliberately black-robed & no instrumental turns, yet the production value remained the same. Moa also performed two Black Babymetal songs (GJ!!, Song 4) like a solo dance recital that night lol. Those Dec 2-3 concerts were also guitarist Mikio Fujioka's last with BM. He was badly injured after falling from height while stargazing at an observation tower on Dec 30, was hospitalized for a week before passing away on Jan 5 with his two young kids at his bedside.
Great reaction mate. Let's hope Amuse doesn't hit this with a copyright. They've been scrubbing the internet of Momobanger videos and reactions since it came out. If you want to hear more Momo growls I'd recommend checking out the Official Live Music Video of Metali.
A couple of months ago I discovered the incredible treasure that is BabyMetal, I am a lifelong metal rocker and I simply love them, they have magic, they are addictive, I love watching and listening to them, and if I'm weird I don't give a damn 🤟🏻🔥
I'm really enjoying your enthusiastic reactions to Babymetal. Watching the smile on your face while Momo was singing was downright precious in its own right. I loved what how you described Momo's voice as the most kawaii of the three. That was exactly what I thought the first time I heard Momobanger. You couldn't dream up a more kawaii voice which just seems so right for Momo. Great, very fun reaction!
her scream and actual singing voice made for such a funny contrast, she was all kawaii singing the song itself then went absolute michael morbius for the screams lol
8:54, just saw in your eyes, the exact same as mine, everytime I watch this video! Impossible do not get so emotional watching it. this for me is far the best video of babymetal
Great reaction! A lot of comments mentioning the "Momo Taro" version of Meta Taro. It too had a lore intro talking about a metal village that found a giant peach out of which Momo was born. This comes directly from the Japanese mythology of the hero Momotaro who grew up to go seek out and destroy the Oni (ogres) who had been terrorizing the village. You can get a good representation of the story by watching Wednesday Campanella's "Momotaro" official MV.
She is rather shy in fact she needed first the support by Su and Moa to break out of her shell abd show her fangs. I think this was the real reason for Metali. After Ratatatata she finally acknowledged that she added to the Weaponry of Babymetal. I think when they saw Kevin in Action they finally realized what kind of Weapon they finally had at their disposal.
It makes sense that you want to watch Babymetal rather than listen to them. The visual element is such a huge part of what they do, so just listening to the songs on Spotify or whatever is missing out on half of the performance. Babymetal has always been a live performance focused act, so they have to be seen (ideally live and in person) to fully experience them in the intended way. Legend MM was held to celebrate Momo's 21st birthday, so 20 NIght, which was held on the 2nd of March was the last day that Momoko was 20 years old. The second show, on the 3rd of March, which is Momoko's actual birthday, was 21 Night, because it was the day she turned 21. So yes, this was to celebrate Momo's 21st birthday, and like all of these shows, its a once off never to be repeated event, which is why I make the trip to Japan every time they do one of these big event shows. Legend MM was an amazing show at Yokohama Arena in front of around 17,000 fans. The contrast between the scream and how cute her regular vocals are is wild. We were so shocked when we saw it live, but she knocked it out of the park. I love the fact that her performance of it was so different from any of the prior versions; she really put her own stamp on it and carved her own niche.
It's their birthday ritual, originally was "on my 15th birthday" but they did this for yui (former member) around 6 years ago, but its momos 21st birthday, they'll possibly change the age again as they all get older! But they do it for their members if they're on tour on or near their birthdates
Check out Bloodywood from New Delhi, India. Theyve got the amazing bounce and groove of Indian/Bhangra music without the terrible nasal vocals. Its pretty sick
Thanks again from Japan 有難う。 Juxtaposition of growl and cutesy voice by Momometal. New ammunition of BABYMETAL. Momoko cannon with dark gunpowder and bright bombshell. I witnessed this performance and got blasted into pieces at the venue.
The original lyrics are on their 15th Birthday. When they do it for 20th birthdays, Su's Legend-S and Moa's Legend-M they changed it to 20th Birthday. Technically Momo turns 21a bit after this show. She technically wasn't Momometal when she turned 20 so they are cheating a little bit so we can get momobanger. One Momo's 21st Birthday they had a show where Momo sang a different song. Momoko has a different voice and a unique range all three are Lyrical Sopranos but Momoko seems to have found her niche with the growl as she does it in the live version of Metali and now in Momobanger.
This is actually the first babymetal song i've ever heard, in fact, my cousin was in that crowd in this video. he sent me that specific part where's Momo's growl and i was instantly in love. I didn't expect Babymetal to even growl or scream. this is wholesome like how cute she is and how she can manipulated her voice from cute to growl.
Take a look at the "Momoko Okazaki funny moments" clips here on youtube. You will see that she was the funniest and smiliest girl in the world...did I write WAS? She still IS of course haha. Greets from Germany.
I feel you on the need to watch the performance as well as listen to it. I am the same with K-pop. I thought I was a massive fan of the genre in general, but after getting some Gfriend, BTS, G-IDLE, SNSD etc on spotify, I realized I'm hooked on the performances and synced dancing as much as I am the vocals. Although the insane perspective jumps they sometimes do on the stages they perform on gets real annoying on the eyes a lot, the performance/dance choreo vids are so superior to watch. Asian pop music really do need the visual aspect as much as the vocal.
This was the first time i had listened to BM. Randomly came across my algorithm and i can not help but listen to it 20 times a day. Ive gotten much deeper into it and cant beleive ive been missing out on them. Killed it.
Btw you saying she had most kawai voice after that growl. That style of singing she did is part of japanese culture and it is called Kawai singing :D Thats why.
When the group announced that they were going to pick one of three girls to take over Yui's spot, I was really worried that I might not like or develop an attachment to who ever they picked. But once it was obvious that Momo was going to be the one they were going to add to the group, I started watching old videos and clips of her, as well as fan cams of her being silly on stage during their concerts. She is funny, silly, and adorable just like Su and Moa are, so I easily became attached to her. When I finally watched the concert where she was officially in BABYMETAL and was given a mic, I became very emotional. She is a perfect addition to BABYMETAL and I'm so happy we have a growler in the group!🤘🦊🤘
They never announced they were going to pick between three different girls. The fans all assumed one of the avengers would potentially take the second scream and dance spot but it was never a guarantee Yui would even be replaced. By the time Momo was made officially the third member the avengers as a concept were long since over with Kano being busy in @onefive and Riho doing her solo thing.
I went through the same process as you. It must have taken courage to choose MOMO when so many people still think of YUI. I also checked out what kind of person she is. You're right. She's a wonderful girl who doesn't need to be compared to YUI. The third member, or maybe it would be better to say the fourth member. She was a talented person worthy of the new BABYMETAL. She also has good chemistry with MOA. Since MOMO joined, SU- and MOA have been having a lot of fun. It's like before YUI left...MOMO's expression when she received the microphone was also wonderful. It was a moment when I felt that the new BABYMETAL was truly complete.
My favorite part of the last Babymetal concert I went to was explaining to my friend that people love Momo, and that it's a guarantee that somebody will randomly shout "I LOVE YOU MOMO" Like 5 minutes later somebody like ten rows in front of us yelled exactly that and a group of grown women started actually crying. Their shows are just an experience, like there's nothing else like it.
Just a little FYI: The "MM" means "Momoka" (as Legend "M" was for Moa, and Legend "S" for Suzuka). There was also a Legend "Y" for Yui around 2014, but I don't believe it was recorded for DVD. 5:37 Correct. At the above special performances, they had the respective member on vocals for the second half of the song. This was done twice each (except for Yui, who left BABYMETAL before she turned 20), for their 15th and 20th birthdays. The original lyric is "ichigo" (15), but was changed to "hatachi" (20) for their 20th birthdays. 8:10 In Japan, 20 is the adult age (unlike most other countries where it is 18). Not sure if 15 is considered special that way, though.
2003 is Momo's birthyear. and this concert was on her birthday (hence "Legend MM" -- MM = Momo) it was her 21st b-day. Moabanger happened on _her_ 20th b-day. HOWEVER, the original lyrics were "15" , cuz that's how old Su was when the song was written. afaik, this is the only song, and only times, they switch it up. the only thing close to an exception is when Moa had to solo the "black babymetal" songs during the Avengers era. also, as far as i can remember, Momo's natural singing voice is actually a bit lower, warmer, and fuller ; so the kawaii sound for this was certainly an interesting choice. idk if maybe it was to contrast even more with the growl , or if she was trying to de-age her voice to make it more match the original intent of the song , or maybe even something else 🤷♂ (ngl, it actually kinda reminded me of Yuibanger ; but maybe that's just me. speaking of -- i don't know if that's worth doing a vid for , cuz the 1 version that exists legitimately looks/sounds like it was recorded on an ipod nano)
Love these ceremonial handover of the microphone 😁 Moa and MoMo are not just backing dancers they great singers and performers as well . I hope they give them some songs together it would be great , but i can not imagine anyone else singing the main vocals for Monochrome or Shine , Megitsune ,Karate, or many other BabyMetal songs to numerous to mention but Su while Moa and MoMo are great Su is in a class of her own the more you hear her the more you will understand why 😁 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
Well the original text is 16th birthday. Since 20 is in Japan the age of Majority they made Special Versions for Moa's and Su's Birthday but when Momo had her 20th birthday She wasn't yet a BabyMetal so thry made this Concert at the last day of her 20th year. On the next day she had her 21nd bithday.
Original song was about a 15 yrs old going to her first heavy metal concert as the age of 15 , which is the age school is no longer mandatory, the song has since been adapted from the original 15 birthday, to be the birthdays of the girls as they get older, in this case, Mom0 20 th , earlier was Moa's 20th. also Momo's scream is just the icing Babymetal needed! her style is different but awesome, and her growling will be a big part of babymetal to come.
Shortly after hearing this song for the first time, I was watching a Watch Mojo video on best headshots in movies (or something like that). All I had going through my head watching it was "Head go bang! Head go bang! Head go bang!". 😂
If you want to see MomoMetal singing, look for Momoko Okazaki singing a children's Halloween song or even singing in a musical where she is wearing a blonde wig. Note: They were all part of the Sakura Gakuin group. There are a lot of their songs
I think Momo did an amazing job as does Babymetal in general. They put on the best live shows on the planet hands down, and I've witnessed many live shows all the way back to seeing Kiss in 1977.
Hey! The original song mentions of the 15 th birthday, and Yui and Moa both did a live version. Then Moa and now Momo did one for their 20th. So basically every 5 years. Also this was at Yokohama arena, which housed 17,000 people both nights. These shows are so different in so many ways from european shows, the organization, the crowd, so special.
Id love to get a moabanger for her 25th birthday but they announced that fox fest will be their last show in japan this year😭 but you cant know for sure, they might announce it later like as a suprise... Atleast im forcing myself to belive its happening because it would be so awesome😭😭😭
Momo has been with BABYMETAL as Avenger since 2019 along with Kano and Riho. Momo was fans' least favorite Avenger. But it was always clear that during the stage shows there was a greater connection With Su and Moa than the other two girls. When BABYMETAL went on hiatus in 2021, Momo practiced from a Korean show to create a new K-pop group. Fortunately, she failed, and was exalted by Fox god to be the new third member 😍🤩 She deserved it so much. I feel so proud of her. Since she definitively became part of BABYMETAL Everything started to shine brighter again. Her dream was to be a backup dancer for a famous group when she grew up and that came true, And more than that, she was fixed as the third piece to be fitted that no fan thought could be played in Yui's place.

Agreed. For Moas birthday she played a bit of guitar for birthday concert. I'm sure of she wanted to do more she could.
I was at the show. I bowed down. It was great. :D
I hadn't heard this one yet, I watch a LOT of BabyMetal reactions, not sure how I ended up here for this one, but.... liked/subbed :D MOMO!!
Great reaction mate. Let's hope Amuse doesn't hit this with a copyright. They've been scrubbing the internet of Momobanger videos and reactions since it came out. If you want to hear more Momo growls I'd recommend checking out the Official Live Music Video of Metali.
Yea it's been rough 😅
it's not really Amuse though!
It's Wowow who is brutal with copyrights
Love this reaction, your thoughts definitely mirrored mine!
I've been a fan of Momoko ever since she first joined Sakura Gakuin, and in all that time I had no idea that she could scream like that!
Momoko is one of the most talented idols I've ever seen, she is definitely complete.
I've watched the whole LEGEND MM concert,, it's amazing
It's not whole. Day 21st is different and and day 20 from WOWOWO has cut 3 songs.
8:40 everyone's reaction to seeing momo sing
can’t believe Momo Metal SCREAMED AHHHH
her scream and actual singing voice made for such a funny contrast, she was all kawaii singing the song itself then went absolute michael morbius for the screams lol
8:54, just saw in your eyes, the exact same as mine, everytime I watch this video! Impossible do not get so emotional watching it. this for me is far the best video of babymetal
This my first time look headbanger momo version... It's so cool momo... Damn...
Always wondered how Momo could make her mark on this song. She was awesome.
20th is Coming of Age in Japan
i love that this was her performing at her hometown so she got to sing Headbangerr on her 20th birthday , such a perfect moment!
Holy ****, she goes full growl.
i saw them live i chicogo back in sept best live show ever in my opion
I flew to Japan to see this concert so no you are not weird 😆
She has her own death stare, her awesome voice and of course that growl. This hurricane that is Momoko. 🤘🦊🤘
Her death stare is so cute, instead of dying of intimidation you die from cuteness
Momo took Yui's place. We all miss Yui-Chan! Momo has done a FANTASTIC Job! We are whole again! We are the Kitsune!
Well, i know the birthday song ill be playing when i turn 20
It's their birthday ritual, originally was "on my 15th birthday" but they did this for yui (former member) around 6 years ago, but its momos 21st birthday, they'll possibly change the age again as they all get older! But they do it for their members if they're on tour on or near their birthdates
Check out Bloodywood from New Delhi, India. Theyve got the amazing bounce and groove of Indian/Bhangra music without the terrible nasal vocals. Its pretty sick
@@nathanthomson1931 I've done a reaction to one of their songs already!😁 More to come...
If you wanna see a mind blowing performance, check out Doki Doki Morning when they feature Metalverse as well!
Momo killed it .. she did freaking awesome gotta love baby metal . That's why they are the greatest band ever ❤❤❤❤
i do that as well )) one should watch BabyMetal live performance))
Thanks again from Japan 有難う。 Juxtaposition of growl and cutesy voice by Momometal. New ammunition of BABYMETAL. Momoko cannon with dark gunpowder and bright bombshell. I witnessed this performance and got blasted into pieces at the venue.
Su gets after it with the choreography. I think she loves the break. But Momometal crushed this song. Momobanger is a brutal jam!
Most badass happy birthday song ever!
Great reaction. While I do enjoy listening to BABYMETAL songs, I prefer to watch their performances!🤘🦊🤘
See if you can find an acceptable version of Yuibanger from way back when. Both she and Moa did a version on their 15th birthdays, very rare footage
😳 She growled!
My favorite part of the last Babymetal concert I went to was explaining to my friend that people love Momo, and that it's a guarantee that somebody will randomly shout "I LOVE YOU MOMO"
Like 5 minutes later somebody like ten rows in front of us yelled exactly that and a group of grown women started actually crying.
We are definitely not cult. o_o 🦊🔥🤘🤘
Since you like Momo’s growl, you should listen to the live performance of metali
ATAMA ATAMA ATAMA! Peach (Momo) Princess knows to scream!
Momo has two modes: 😇 or 😈🤘
2003 is Momo's birthyear. and this concert was on her birthday (hence "Legend MM" -- MM = Momo)
it was her 21st b-day.
Moabanger happened on _her_ 20th b-day.
HOWEVER, the original lyrics were "15" , cuz that's how old Su was when the song was written.
afaik, this is the only song, and only times, they switch it up. the only thing close to an exception is when Moa had to solo the "black babymetal" songs during the Avengers era.
also, as far as i can remember, Momo's natural singing voice is actually a bit lower, warmer, and fuller ; so the kawaii sound for this was certainly an interesting choice. idk if maybe it was to contrast even more with the growl , or if she was trying to de-age her voice to make it more match the original intent of the song , or maybe even something else 🤷♂
(ngl, it actually kinda reminded me of Yuibanger ; but maybe that's just me. speaking of -- i don't know if that's worth doing a vid for , cuz the 1 version that exists legitimately looks/sounds like it was recorded on an ipod nano)
This concert is the birthday tribute of momo her 21st birthday 😊😊😊
at origingaly, it’s for 15 th birthday, to Su when she turned 15, Yui and Moa already sing this song in Paris for their 15th birthday
Im pretty sure that the half-stick mike stand is a direct copy of Queens 1985 performance. Brilliant!
Love these ceremonial handover of the microphone 😁
Moa and MoMo are not just backing dancers they great singers and performers as well . I hope they give them some songs together it would be great , but i can not imagine anyone else singing the main vocals for Monochrome or Shine , Megitsune ,Karate, or many other BabyMetal songs to numerous to mention but Su while Moa and MoMo are great Su is in a class of her own the more you hear her the more you will understand why 😁
🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
Great version - although I'm not sure if the growl isn't just track again like her one in Metali. Good reaction.
For me it's the same: I don't listen to Babymetal songs, I have to watch their performances.
The perfect song ...Momo en español ESPECTACULAR..hace años no me gustaba tanto una canción ..estoy adicto la escucho varias veces todos los dias 😂
I believe they do this fairly frequently for their birthdays, as the song was originally written for Su's 15th birthday.
In the original lyrics it says 15th so yes, they change it for their birthdays
Original song was about a 15 yrs old going to her first heavy metal concert as the age of 15 , which is the age school is no longer mandatory, the song has since been adapted from the original 15 birthday, to be the birthdays of the girls as they get older, in this case, Mom0 20 th , earlier was Moa's 20th. also Momo's scream is just the icing Babymetal needed! her style is different but awesome, and her growling will be a big part of babymetal to come.
Momo from Godzilla to Kawaii voice
Shortly after hearing this song for the first time, I was watching a Watch Mojo video on best headshots in movies (or something like that). All I had going through my head watching it was "Head go bang! Head go bang! Head go bang!". 😂
If you want to see MomoMetal singing, look for Momoko Okazaki singing a children's Halloween song or even singing in a musical where she is wearing a blonde wig. Note: They were all part of the Sakura Gakuin group. There are a lot of their songs
Momo pronounced the words more clearly and correct than Moa and SU.
I think Momo did an amazing job as does Babymetal in general. They put on the best live shows on the planet hands down, and I've witnessed many live shows all the way back to seeing Kiss in 1977.
I can't wait for Momotaro in 3 weeks! :D
Normally is says... My special night of my 15th year... They changed it to 20th
"basically every 5 years"
i'd be surprised if they do it again. 15 and 20 are notable (in a positive way) in japanese culture. 25 really isn't.
Agree, but Babymetal never waste a chance on doing something special. I bet this isn't the last of ....banger.
Id love to get a moabanger for her 25th birthday but they announced that fox fest will be their last show in japan this year😭 but you cant know for sure, they might announce it later like as a suprise... Atleast im forcing myself to belive its happening because it would be so awesome😭😭😭
FYI she is screaming "Motto motto motto" meaning "More more more".
Her dream was to be a backup dancer for a famous group when she grew up and that came true, And more than that, she was fixed as the third piece to be fitted that no fan thought could be played in Yui's place.
they change the lyrics, the original says night of my 15th birthday
That night MOMO was 20 and 21 years old💀
