It was almost the exact same color as the 1969 you're showing to us. What was really heart breaking was seeing its bedraggled rear quarter panels rotting away. Believe me, if I had the $$ to buy it, assuming it was actually for sale; I would've taken it back to SoCal and had it properly restored to showroom condition.

My uncle had one of the Hurst editions when it was only a couple of years old if that, he suped it up after he bought it and when he and my aunt came to visit he made a run to the store and asked me if I wanted to go with him, I want to say I was almost 4 or 4 it defineatly was before I was five because my dad closed his service station shortly after the first oil embargo, so of course I said yes. I sat in the front seat on the way down and when we left my house he floored it, I could only see sky and was pressed into the seat and deafened by tire squeal.
After picking up what he came for at the super market, he told me to get in the back seat and when I did he preceded to do donuts and figure eights in the parking lot and I was rolling around that giant white leather seat, asshole over elbow laughing my head off. I don't remember much from that age, some things are burned into my memories like "working" at my dads gas station sweeping, picking up trash and washing customers windshields, getting my "pay" which was a choice of candy from the machine inside, Mallow cups or Sky Bars, they were my favorite, and eating lunch with my dad at his desk in his office.
Dads been gone for around 35 yrs but my uncle and aunt are still alive and kicking in their mid eighties.

My Dad had a 1969 Newport Custom 4 door sedan, 383 2 barrel, highway gears, I think they were 2.81 or something like that. Just leave it in drive, about 25-30 mph, tromp it, it kicks down into first and does not shift until 55 mph, then in second it goes to 90 before shifting. Now if that is not a Interstate cruiser, I don't know what is. That is left in drive. The torqueflite shifted better automatically than manually. It floated at 120. Just out for a cruise. The engine was NOT wound out at 120.

My first car was a 1969 Chrysler 300. It was 2 door, yellow, no vinyl top, and had a 440 High Performance with 375 HP. For a 4300 pound car, it moved out fairly well. I sold it to a friend of mine that wanted the engine for his Road Runner for $300. They were known for having problems with the valve guides. The design of the heads could have been better and they really didn't flow all that well. Unless you could get a good aftermarket head, you could get comparable performance out of a 383 or 400.

100cfm intakes, 80cfm exhaust? Excellent heads bone stock. Port them and they do just fine. This was a factory HP motor. Everything is a compromise. These can laze along calmly, then have plenty of romp and stomp in them. They could use a bigger carb.

That's right! My bud dragged one of these home in the 90's we yanked the 440 for his Charger and future RamCharger

I like the 440, we had some old motorhomes with 440s, powerful and torquey engines. But, just like the Ford 460, they had bad fuel mileage.

Good move Steve to grab that 440. It won't be long before your police car is back in hot pursuit.

I know you want what you want but that poly can easily make 500 hp and so few of them are left on the street..plus the WOW factor is much higher with the poly..also you would be keeping it original..good luck with your build..keep the videos coming 👍

Thanks Steve. I had a Plymouth 4 door with hidden headlights. Can’t remember if it was a 70 or 73

Hidden headlamps means 70, by 73 the fury had still fuselage styling but a very boxy all around touch with no hidden headlamps
