  • Sometimes you think they will be so simple, other times they can work you hard! The custom redo of this figure, which started out as a simple face repaint, became much more, when I realized I could not leave her as she was!
McFarlane;s Supergirl figure with the red bottoms and blue tops, was simply not showing enough skin! I mean, she looked ok. Not as good a costume as the Supergirl in the Flash movie,,,,no, THIS Supergirl needed some tweaking! Already, she's had some great custom makeovers online, so what could I do that was different?
Lose the shoulder coverage, lose some dress length, repaint the face and hair, and add skin to the shoulders and belly, and trim the costume in some gold where possible!
And spray with my beloved Mr Hobby Mr Super clear matt finish!
Her skin was a cocktail of Vallejo acrylic paints from Red to Dark Flesh to Light Flesh, with some Wood Grain brown thrown in, and painted where it needed to go.
Only problem with that is, sometimes where it went could be compromised by moving parts, and rubbed off. Still, I think she came out pretty good! Right at my concept anyway.
Might benefit from a donated waist area from another figure, but since I didn't have one handy, I used what was there, dremeled and sanded all I could, and painted away!
Again, she came out pretty good. We'll see what the future holds!
The rest was easier! Gold trim, temp seams, the works!

This turned out very well. I have purposefully held back from doing anything with mine, so that I could find some concepts and ideas like this one. The only thing I did was switch out her midsection with the Last Knight On Earth Wonderwoman, like some other youtubers had done. It worked pretty well, but I hadn't considered the gold trim on the sleeve. I'm wary about painting the shoulders flesh, just because of what you mentioned about paint rub with the ball joints. I've been wary about painting any figure extensively because of that. Joints SUCK with that fact. However, I think there are alternatives out there, like other McFarlane figures that have skin-toned shoulders that might work out with it. I don't think I'm gonna paint the face on mine, it won't look anywhere in the ballpark for where yours went, yours is a homerun right outta the park! I like how the repaint turned out. 👍

Thanks so much for the interesting comment! I too thought about the shoulders, and had this been my own figure, I might have gone to the trouble of finding some. Problem is, they have to be McFarlane ones, and have to be about the same size. May be out there, but I am unsure. As for the waist, I dislike the Wonder Woman one as it is a bit too long, and oddly shaped. The one on the figure, though needing reworking, is a great shape and sets her hips about right. Best of luck on your redo, if and when you do it! 😉
