  • The 2024 press announcement of the laureates of the 35th Praemium Imperiale in Italy was held at The Westin Excelsior Hotel in Rome on September 10. International Advisor Mr. Lamberto Dini announced the 2024 Praemium Imperiale Laureates and the recipient of the Grant for Young Artists, saying a few words from each of their biographies before introducing the accompanying videos. After each video, Mr. Dini emphasized that a common characteristic of this year's Laureates is that their works reflect their perceptions and emotions regarding the human experience.
Maestro Giulio Paolini, the 2022 Laureate for Painting, who attended the announcement, remarked that the Japan Art Association seeks to honor extraordinary individuals whose careers demonstrate both undeniable personal merit and original professional contributions. He noted that the 2024 Laureates are truly exemplary figures for our complex times.
He warmly congratulated them and expressed his hope that their stay in Tokyo and their participation in the ceremony would have the same symbolic, aesthetic and social significance for them as it had for him. “A unique and unforgettable experience in so many ways,” he added.
Mr. Paolini went on to say that his own time in Tokyo in 2022 remains a cherished memory, and that he felt privileged to have attended the Awards Ceremony, where formality and tradition were beautifully balanced with an atmosphere of warmth and compassion. The announcement was followed by a photo call, after which guests enjoyed a buffet of Italian and Japanese cuisine.
