Well I understand George falling into the canal..... many years ago when we were travelling the canals in the UK.... YES.....I have fallen into the Canal..... so I know how George feels....
That heron shot was amazing. I’ve never seen a heron taking off like that, and we do a fair bit of boating ourselves on the Norfolk Broads. Just to add…loved the closing clips, and the bloopers were even more hilarious.
The heron take-off was pretty amazing. I've seen seagulls do that in the strong steady sea breeze of my old hometown, but they're not nearly as big as herons and they're not surrounded by trees on the beach.
Shorts are, indeed, shorts, but pants are underwear and not trousers except that lady's trousers are called pants ... oh, it's complicated!!! It was possibly Bernard Shaw who penned that America and Britain are "Two nations divided by a common language." Having grown up in England but now lived in Canada for several decades, I commiserate with Michael as I can remember the differing words for both sides of the Atlantic, but all too often fail to remember which belongs where! Great video as always!
Your attempts to get the vlog started were lovely! Cheered me up no end! Oh, I have friends in Godmanchester and I don't think I've ever heard it called "Gumster". And that pronunciation is not in the BBC Pronouncing Dictionary of British Names, which is generally pretty good at including the unlikely pronunciations of names like Godmanchester.
I have spent the last few days watching most of your vlogs. What a fascinating couple you are. Without doubt my wife and I would love to meet you for a meal and a long chat but your life and ours mean geography will keep us from achieving a meet. We live now on the Jurassic Coast although we do visit many parts of the u.k. and own a small home also in the Midlands. I have now purchased your book young lady so will learn more about you both. Stay safe and have many Happy Days. Love, Tony and Maureen.
I lived in Cambridgeshire for some time and Godmanchester was pronounced as spelt.Alternatively Beaminster in Dorset was pronounced Bemster by some of the locals ; so l don’t know .l give up!🖐🤚
Just had a blizzard come thru that dumped 18 inches of snow and the current temperature is 17 degrees F. So nice to see a warm summer's day and know that this to will pass. Be well and stay safe.
Have enjoyed all your videos over the years but have missed the outtakes, especially with George. This one was the funniest so far. All kidding aside ... thanks so much for sharing your lives and adventures. Continued good luck on the renovations. Cheers from South Carolina!
Spent my first 18 years living around the Lodes, and I've never heard of the alternative pronunciation of Godmanchester. Wikipedia suggests it's only used by a minority of local residents.
Perhaps it's only known as Gumster to locals of the older generation, but I really think it's a myth. Unlike Stiffkey in Norfolk, Stookey to locals. Does anyone still say Hunston for Hunstanton?
I'm pretty sure Jo restrained herself and didn't kill Michael. Unless she found a doppelganger to remodel the boat. I should ask. Probably the hauling-George-out-of-the-water skills are enough to keep him around. Good to know that you're still capable of coming up with some bloopers to keep us entertained.
Don’t believe all you read on the internet 😀 We have lived in the area for 15+ years (my wife worked in the hospital ) , we have friends who have lived in Godmanchester for 10+ years. As others have said, No one pronounces it Gumster, everyone says It as written. Anyway , loving seeing the videos of our local patch., so thanks for the latest update We have just had an offer accepted on a Narrowboat , and will hopefully have it over her in a few months
@@MinimalList Thankyou. I came across your videos last year when researching our last hire boat holiday. We then enjoyed working our way all through them all. Need to buy one or two of Jo’s maps now :-)
I'm always tempted to hit the emergency stop, too. There was this one time in... uh... either a mechanics course or a welding course where they had really big emergency stop buttons on the walls. I successfully resisted the temptation, only to accidentally lean back against one in the middle of a lecture/demonstration. XD
The blooper section was THE BEST I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. Oh the joys of dog owning 😂🤣😂 Getting back to pronunciations, I know British English has a lot of vagaries, but in American English, how does Kansas and Arkansas sound so different…!!!
I must admit that when I saw that heron catch the wind and allowed itself to become airborne I had to replay it to be sure that is what I did see, great videoing!
I used to live near a heronry, and I never saw such a brilliant vertical take-off manoeuvre. Usually much more of a lurch. Hemingford Grey, home of Lucy Boston and her spooky/mysterious Green Knowe books and characters. I visited her beautiful garden some years ago, complete with a tiny door leading under the topiary. Apparently the Manor had originally been built in 1130 - crikey!
I'm stuck in Hartford marina as brownshill lock is Shut until the 28th. I'm heading to the GU when it reopens but then I'll be stuck on the Nene until April due to lock closures. Aren't rivers lovely.... Not. But better than the middle level ditches. I'll be flat out on the middle level as heard nothing but bad news about that system.
I noticed, as you went through Godmanchester Lock, you didn’t have your tall chimney on but just the cowl. Have you ditched the chimney? If so, does the stove and cowl work on their own? Thanks
We just take in off when we are moving in case of low bridges. The stove will work without the chimney but there is more draw with the tall chimney on!
I lived near Huntingdon for 14 years and owned a house in Godmanchester, and have NEVER heard it pronounced the way you've been saying it. It's God-man-Chester, plain and simple. Your pronunciation must be some weird minority version.
Gday, guys, I just tried to buy the colour in canal map, (some canals missing, like humber,) it says that you are out of stock for overseas orders, I’m in Australia, can you help????
When you were going to St. Ives, did you, meet a man with seven wives, and did each wife have seven sacks, and in each sack were there seven cats? If each cat had seven kits: Kits, cats, sacks, and wives, How many of you went to St. Ives? Sorry, I just couldn't resist...
Ah yes....the interesting English way of pronouncing the name of their town completely differently from the way it's spelled. I'd call it charming, but when you're trying to get directions, it's somewhat less than so.
@@MinimalList terrible and now Houghton seems easy. It's Hooton. Unless they're lying to me. Just after Hartford marina you past a rusty Dutch barge. That's me, she's called Kokkel and is going to be wonderful one day. She is 100 years old and will be fully electric powered. Did I say I love your videos and was so disappointed I didn't see you go bye.
@@MinimalList I've found the guy saying gumster. So funny but believe me if you asked for directions using gumster no one in Cambridgeshire would know where it is.
Someone has been having you on regarding the pronunciation of Godmanchester. I live nearby and have always said God-man-Chester. 😆
great show. George need a stern talking to?
Loved these laugh out loud moments! The bloopers were hilarious! ! As ever you are showing how gorgeous this river is and love the photography. Xx
Well I understand George falling into the canal..... many years ago when we were travelling the canals in the UK.... YES.....I have fallen into the Canal..... so I know how George feels....
Oh no! Michael has taken an unplanned dip too! Not fun!
I've lived in the Huntingdon region for 50 odd years and never heard it called Gumster :)
That heron shot was amazing. I’ve never seen a heron taking off like that, and we do a fair bit of boating ourselves on the Norfolk Broads.

That ‘field’ you walked across to Godmanchester is Portholme Meadow. It’s an important flood meadow and has a fascinating history. Look it up!
Oh dear the end was so funny, poor Jo!!! Love the sunshine. Take care and thank you.
😂😂😂😂👍 Great video.

Never have I been so glad to not be currently moored with “Cow Dessert” for George! 😵💫

So done every canal in England next Scotland Canals maybe
Maybe
The boat y'all shared a lock with, Fair Wind, is gorgeous.

The Middle Level waterways are great, in my opinion. Definitely Marmite waterways ...
We didn’t really enjoy the middle level nearly as much as the Ouse or nene. Vlogs on the way soon
Your closing shot when you gave us the details of the trip was nice with the green colors on the ground and the storm clouds above
We call underpants grungies or thunderpants.
Funny bloopers this week.
Love Hemmingdord grey. Stayed there on a nb and then on land in a cottage. Loads of lovely mooring. Look forward to the next episode!!👍
good vid on the cut
Stop playing with your bollards!!! 😁😁😁
Love your ending volg hope too see Michael on the next one if Michael not on we will all know there was foul play hope you three are doing ok
As Michael was going to St. Ives, he met a man with seven wives.😀
Is there anyway that your next map could include canals that are being restored or are proposed to be restored????
I’ve have that on the to-do list for a while but time is short at the moment
You might want to check the spelling in the description.
Nah I think your safe, she'd have to train up new nube otherwise!

Thanks, just wondered! I know there are some low bridges near Bedford. I would do the same.
What a shame, even in such a nice area where you were walking that there was graffiti on the walls under the railway bridge.
Yep!

Hi guys hope you are all well. Where is best to order copies of your maps from? (FB shop or Art by Annamarie)? Ta muchly.
Hi Paul, doing fine, given all the wood dust! Hope you’re well too. The Art by Annamarie site is the place to order! M
Are the stone covered paths hard on George's paws much?
They are not too bad!
Spoiler alert … Jo does not push Michael in the river. Phew.
Was that lift out on C.
H. G.? Or is a look alike
😂😆😁😆😂😆😁😃
Do you think that "Plastic" had enough fenders? LOL
👍
Gday, guys, I just tried to buy the colour in canal map, (some canals missing, like humber,) it says that you are out of stock for overseas orders, I’m in Australia, can you help????
The colour in map is only shipped from the uk as it is printed on paper that I know colours in well.
and ......
the laugh made my day
chiefs lost......maybe the 49ers will too
What is that arabic number tattooed on your forearm?
It’s a date but it is written backwards
When you were going to St. Ives, did you,
meet a man with seven wives,
and did each wife have seven sacks,
and in each sack were there seven cats?
If each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
How many of you went to St. Ives?
Sorry, I just couldn't resist...
Each village looks like a setting for an Agatha Christie murder mystery.
Lol

Who told you how to pronounce Godmanchester was pulling your leg. Never trust a local.
It was Google!
