great story matey Ancoats and mile's planting changed so more over the last 10 years and the posh have taken over and ancoats is now new islington ?? downley drive is still here but chippenham road has changed and the flats are now full of posh people ? we even have a marina for canal boats where cardroom estate was www.waterwayleisure.com/new-islington-marina
Grew up on Tewkesbury Rd off Holland St went to St Marks Jnr school, Holland St comp, New izzy baths every week and bought hot buttered barms from the local bakery. your pics sent me straight back to those times, great memories and rickets......... Great soundtrack
Use to drink in the magpie pub my mate Dennis newns lived with his mum across in the flats .some fun times thanks for the memories. John Rooney st annes lancshire uk former moss side lad then rusholme.
A little early for me I think, still remember most of the places here, the maisonettes near Every Street etc. I’m not from Ancoats but next door in the not so hip Miles Platting, makes me laugh when when people think Ancoats is just the New Islington Marina area, it is good seeing the mills put to use rather than being demolished. I was born on Bradford Road but we got moved up to Openshaw Village when they demolished all the Terraced Streets from Bradford Road to Sandal Street, from the Cricketers to the bend. I still went to Corpus Christi though even though I was only 5/6 years old, ,my Mum worked for Speedprint but stopped taking me when they moved to Bradford on the Industrial estate where City’s ground is now, my Mum and Dad didn’t think twice about letting me get the bus back then, not these days? P.S. Loved the video
Roughest place I ever lived in the flats opposite Ancoats hospitol..I had family and 2 kids and the locals for fun used to put burning paper through the letterboxes in front doors..lots sickos about there in the 70,s as years passed there were no happy memories there we moved to hattersley paradise house council swap .. real people .. ancoats was the pits
