I showed this to my son when he was very young, 19 years ago, and he's almost 25 now, and he still LOVES this! Good parenting, I call it! lol Thanks for making me look somewhat like a superhero!!!
I'm playing it right now on Christmas eve 2021 for my 13, 10, and 9yo lol. Anyone who want to criticize patenting, I say FUQ U IF U CAN'T TAKE A JOKE!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
my dad showed me this ,he whas a young graaffiti artist in the 70´s and 80´s in germany and spend alot of time with american soldiers that have been stationed in germany, im proud to say that i continue my dad´s legacy !!! ...
Every time this movie ended and I was overwhelmed from the Ramo celebration, I rewound the VHS tape and would play the movie again and spoke it word for word. I loved this movie so much.
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME. I'm a 70's child and Wild Style along with Beat Street are still ICONS. This was when rap was about "RAW TALENT", No Auto-Tune, no Jake the fake rappers of today. Just pure "TALENT"

+javak boyer I just saw it for the first time several hours ago. If only I knew this existed last Christmas, I would have sent it out to my friends when I sent out twelve days worth of Christmas songs. (Highly unconventional songs, of course!)
"Man, y'all should be glad that I didn't quit, 'cause I'm gettin' too old for this Santa Claus shit" This was the first "rap" song that I heard as little white boy in 1984. Thirty years ago, hard to believe.
Lmao! I had this rap fully memorized (still do 32 yrs later)-and I was a 13 year old white girl lol :) I had BOTH Beat Street records (1&2 pink&yellow covers respectively ;) ) in my collection and recorded WBLS on cassettes religiously (esp Fri nights lol), fully labeled and with the tab off on the REALLY good "i KNOW this is historical" ones, so I was able to witness the beginning of rap grow (I know initial START was in the laye 70s, but Im talking "to the masses" and have ALWAYS loved having those memories. It was a really good time, esp for that age, to live in (early to mid teens in the early to mid '80s) and I am glad to have had that experience, sigh, oh how the world has changed....:(
What does white have to do with anything? Rap was basically only in New York in 1983 regardless of race. A person from Nigeria would have no idea what Rap was either.
exactly and the most creative people always have fuck all when they're trying to make it.... blood sweat and tears... I'm sitting here 35 year's later enjoying the clip 👍
THIS was the hip hop movie back then...before Krush Groove (Screw Breakin' and its Electric Boogaloo sequel ,that was just goofy. - BUT it did have a brief cameo by Ice T) I had Beat Street cassettes Vol 1 and 2. Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh, Jazzy Jay, Afrika Bambatta, Kool Herc, etc...You had classic hip hop, real breakdancing, and graffiti artists and the South Bronx.
Classic rite here for many reasons!! Doug E Fresh, Kool Moe Dee & The treacherous 3, Mellie Mel, Afrika Bambata & The soul sonic force!! The Entire Hip Hop culture was summed up in this movie. This was way better than Breaking & Breaking II although both of those had more commercial success Beat Street was just too real!!!
Word!! But the real truth is these dude's paid the way and they don't receive no royalties checks for all the hard work that they put in!! Like Tupac or was it Busta Rhymes said rappers were ass out back in the days today's hip hop rappers make some real garbage ass songs and get paid mad money from royalties publishing album sold I respect & love the 80s hip hop yall PAID the way for these water down ass clown rappers much love the bronx for creating Hip Hop the whole NYC RUN DMC KB LL FAT BOYS COOL G DOUG E FRESH SLICK RICK KOOL HERK RED ALERT AND MY POPS CHILD HOOD FRIEND MR. Yooo, did ya'll peep Dj Kool Herc at the beginning of the scene? He was the tall brotha' with the hat, that the promoter was talking to. S/O to Kool Herc. Thank you bruh!
The Treacherous Three (Kool Moe Dee, Special K, L.A. Sunshine) and Doug E. Fresh. Awesome! I saw this in the movies back in 1984 summer. Highlights: Special K: "That GI Joe looked GI Gay!" and at 03:52: Kool Moe Dee's reaction to Doug E. Fresh. Thanks a million for this clip!
Look the 80's spawned great raps that will never be duplicated....EVER!! There is no creativity in the 90's-2000's raps......Glad I was into it from '79 to '87!!!
I can agree with you on the 2000’s, but No creativity in 90’s hip/hop? Are you crazy? The 90’s was the golden age. Biggie Smalls, 2pac, NWA, Nasty NAS, Jay-Z, Cypress Hill just to name a few. The list goes on and on……….
This film was what inspired my brother to become a break dancer,he always said 1 day he would be better than crazy legs haha,he made my older brother watch this film over n over again, true to his word he was an absolute brilliant breaker and even hd his own group STREET PEOPLE........sadly he isn't here anymore but I keep finding myself comin back.to the b-boy.battle scene thinkin to myself was my brother really as good s hat people told me he was,was he really as good or.better than crazy legs like he said he would be ? Miss u bro so much....5 yrs nxt month, gone so quickly but still in my heart every day 🙏♥️🙏
Beat Sreet is a timeless cinematic masterpeice! Look closley, Doug E. Fresh, Kool Moe Dee are in it and if you look real close in the finale, Turbo and Ozone from Breakin are there also. My high school buddies quote this movie all the time and have since 1985.
Love this, takes me back to my school days. It reminds me of why hiphop meant so much to me then. Unfortunately today's hiphop hasn't progressed too well. The mystique it had back then has all but gone and I don't really respect many of the new artists but would still get off my ass to go see the old skool.
Kool Mo Dee is santa. I searced record stores for months looking for this track.... then they came out with a 2nd Beat Street soundtrack which had it. Thanks for posting!
I'm going to see if I can get a copy of the first volume next time I go to a local flea market (there are A TON of old hip hop records, and everytime I go with $5, I get 5 classics). I also learned that there is a double cd set with both volumes.
thats absolutely true , New york was extremely dangerous during the 70s and 80s it was actually just as bad as Sao Paulo back then and like you said Hip Hop was hope . Nowadays Trap Rappers talk about how "hard " they are yet the murder rate is steadily declining .
yo this scene is so ill, i sing it all day and annoy the shit out of people all day long with its fresh lyrics, and yeah this is real rap, y cant people keep makin this stuff?
Now this takes a brother back to his youth. REAL HIP HOP!!! Long live the 80's. Like I said once before, "All this "pants on the ground" music is really beginning to piss me off.
Man this was the first hip hop movie I saw when it came out and I loved it. It gave me a look at black people in another city other than my own and realized that New York looked like where I lived to an extent. Goes to show you that other than certain styles and trends we were the same where ever we were. Good times indeed.
I showed this to my son when he was very young, 19 years ago, and he's almost 25 now, and he still LOVES this! Good parenting, I call it! lol Thanks for making me look somewhat like a superhero!!!

I'm high as fuck and i love these movies and Breakin' 1 and 2

That's one of the best songs ever.

That ending rap is so dope it makes you want to run outside in the freezing cold around your neighborhood and yell “Ramo!!!”
Me and my brothers can't go out at the same time because a coat that's theirs is a coat that's mine..
I love this!!! Beat Street one of favorite movies of all time! !!

3:25 - man. Imagine if someone said that on live TV today. That would be hilarious. And also a lawsuit waiting to happen.
This movie was so watered down from what New York was like then. But it was all we had back then
I really like the sound of that DX7 bass
