The beginning stages of locs was mentally hard for me. I obsessed about sizing, parts, neatness, the amount of locs I had and on and on. Two year's in and I love the way they've just worked themselves out. It gets better, hang in there!!!!

I appreciate your comment! I am in the beginning stages of my loc journey & it is ROUGH BABY! Girl! The obsession w sizing is me right now. I started w the two strand twist method & I had to make some smaller in the front to get a more fuller look but now I think about what they’ll look like when they’re matured. This journey is DEFINITELY teaching me patience & letting go of the idea to control everything. But like you said “it gets better!”

I appreciate your transparency and don’t think you should feel bad for how you have felt. I wish we in the black community gave each other grace to express ourselves freely no matter if its loose natural, weave, braids or locs. And i wish we didn’t feel like we had to give disclaimers before we share honest expression. Why do we always come for each other instead of just being supportive? Keep on keeping it real. I know I’m not the only one who can relate to what you’re saying here.

You know that hair done feeling you are taking about... this is the exact reason why I am very mindful of praising my daughter when she has her hair freshly done. Like OMG you look so cute. This is the case for many little girls, but as adults we don't always know the root cause of those feels.
But sis you look beautiful today without a retwist!!

    1st set: 518 locs
    2nd set: 98 locs
3rd set: 168 locs and it’s definitely my favorite
This beginning stage is mentally rough. But I know it’s so worth the wait.

    Beautiful!!!
I think people make more out of the “lock hairstyle” than necessary, I get it’s for youtube content, but it really comes down to your personal preference as to how you like to rock your locs… some of us like a less “fussed over” approach others like a more uniformed “every hair in place” approach, some focus solely on aesthetics, while others only care about the health of their hair…
whatever floats your boat, as long as people understand it’s just hair & “overall” it’s is not that serious, have fun with the look✌🏾🙏🏾

  • @81cterrell

Just a thought….why don’t comb out and fix the locs you don’t like i.e. the front. Adjust the sizes as needed. I did the reverse I didn’t like how thin my front was, so I combined a lot of the front. So, now I probably have around 100 locs.

Honestly I’m a few months behind you and I feel the same about all of these things. My locs are similar size and length as yours and the struggle is real! I tend to like looking neat and so not retwisting often has been the biggest challenge for me to keep my sanity and my look the way I’m used to. Thanks for making this, I’m glad I’m not alone 😅

I'm with you. I'm so use to my hair being "done". This loc journey does take your emotions up and down. I'm 11 months in. Started with 100 locs(not what I asked for, wanted 250-300). So the lady basically did what she wanted. 2 months later, I split all of my locs, ended up with 242. Now, Ive combined down to 115-120ish, yes-I now want thicker locs. So my journey was crazy from the start. If I originally had gotten what I wanted, may have stayed with smaller locs for fullness. Idk. Love my hair some days, some days I don't....

  • @CieLocd
    @CieLocd 3 года назад +4

But see I feel like the rules don’t apply to everyone . So at the end of the day you make your own rules depending on your texture, size ,and how your hair strands handle stuff . Cause we all have different hair

Tfs...September 5th/6th I will be 4 months in my loc journey. I started with short hair and I have probably the most course texture anyone may have 😂. I started them myself and vowed to maintain them myself, no matter what. I did retwist my head atleast twice individually retwisting certain one bcus they were puffy pockets in some and I didn't like that, others kept unraveling especially in the nape. I even broke down a row in the crown bcus there my locs are thicker & some were too thick. I noticed it was becoming an obsession so I made myself leave my hair alone and give it a chance to thrive. Long story short. I love the frizziness bcus it makes my baby locs appear thicker. I haven't budded they give loc vibes when frizzy. The one thing I will feel better when they drop cus now my hair be looking like that 1st pic you shared...sticking straight out like spider legs. I will say jus a few months in and they have doubled in length altho now I'm going through more shrinkage 😂 I love it tho its definitely a journey. 🙏🏽👑💎

Everyone’s hair texture is different. So some can go longer then others. You gotta find a flow with you & as they get longer it gets easier & better. I’m over 2 1/2 years in. I do light retwist in between to keep them neat. I also used to camouflage with Bantu lknots & 2 strands twist. I also find when they are curly it hides the the frizzy. But I love the frizz. Good luck!!!

  • @carrietoo

I prefer the neatness of the retwist as well. I know my hair can 'fro and have seen it that way most of my life. Also my new growth marries like crazy and puffs. So now all I wanna see is locs 🤷🏽‍♀️😊

I love the fresh look as well and I been looking into doing interlocking not sure if that's what I want to do. I am 6 months into my journey. it last longer and it looks neat even after a good shampoo. I wish I had smaller locs so I could get nice styles once I get more length.
