@@carrieg7185 It was great. Unfortunately, at the time, Manhattan and TS were a bit worse for wear, but hopefully now with the city opened back up, it’s closer to pre-covid. 👍🏼
The first time I visited NY, I stayed in Hell’s Kitchen without really knowing anything about the area, and LOVED IT! I’m glad you (and Ben) made a video around this area! And Billy was a GREAT addition! 👏👏
I think most or many first time NYC visitors stumble upon Hells Kitchen without knowing anything about the location which is fine. Nothing wrong with that
Don’t do it we r slaves to our government. Like doing anything??? Literally we have to sue for every right. Gov Cuomo laughs, says “well we’ll see how it goes in the appellate court”. Cuomo appointments the judges, he owns them. NY sucks, it’s a scourge. I am literally traveling to Texas next week, to be free. Truth!
hello hdb, the neighborhood was and is with many of the nicer places to eat near shows and cinema. the favorite thai restaurant is wondee, bakery for chocolate sticks amy's bread (original in greenwich), rice and beans for south american, and a newer bakery schumacher cookie shop (bacon choco chip) - miss that a lot. thank you for walking there. elle for 9th ave
I was in NYC recently, and staying near Hell's Kitchen. Because of watching this video, I went for lunch at UT 47, and had a delicious meal. Thank you for enriching my NYC experience!
Jon, you’re what’s keeping me in New York City when I’m not even there if that makes sense. I cannot believe how many places I passed when I was there. I remember being in my hotel room looking at Apple Maps being like, “I’m really that close to Times Square?” There is still so much for me to do!
I went to NYC last week and stayed in Midtown. Armed with information from this video, I went to UT 47 for lunch. It was wonderful! Thank you for telling me about a place I never would have found on my own!
It is underrated but I think many tourist stumble upon it by accident since it’s so close to the main attractions. It’s sort of an “accidental” hot spot in ways
This should become a series of episodes of find a local New Yorker live in the same neighbourhood and tell their stories and their favourite food places. People like Billy bring your channel to a different level. Not just where to find $5 cheap eats.
Hell's Kitchen is awesome and I have a great feeling that Broadway is returning in September and when it does NYC is Back! Amazing video like always Jon👍
I live in Maryland. But, I agree with Billy on national chain restaurants, when visiting other cities. I have my own problems with them on road trips. If I can get it at home, in my own area, I don't want it on the road. I'd rather visit locally owned restaurants, that are unique to that area.
I totally agree with you and I never visit national chains in NYC. However, in the real world most people are not foodies and would rather be conservative and eat at a chain restaurant or eat similar food items they grew up with.
John, I hope you'll explore more of Hell's kitchen. Very intriguing. Thank you. I always enjoy your guests and your exploits of the nooks and crannies of NY.
Was a good place to raise a family people were tight,But the rich wanted us out,the good jobs left, the writing was on the wall.If you could see it in 1950,there will never be a place like it,and end of an Era.It was tough,so what everywhere it was tough. He never mentioned the Playground,no kids,no softball teames?
As a Texan, I love NYC so much. Only been there in 2017 for a week and it felt unreal! We went to a Mexican restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, it was good. Thanks for these videos! Texas does love u! 💖
Great Video John! I love Hell's Kitchen so much. I try to stay in that neighborhood every time I come to NYC. Can't wait to try the spots you, Billy and Ben recommended. Thanks so much.
Thank you for this video, visiting Broadway this weekend, had no clue what to expect, where to eat...definitely will be going to Smackery's for cookies...insightful tour!!
We so want to visit Hells Kitchen. We just can't get Estas for the USA right now. Its so frustrating. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Sorry we haven't been able to visit you for a while we have been busy moving house etc. But great to catch up with you again. Stay safe see you soon.
Here Be Barr, I'm so sorry🤔 but now that I know...thanks to you!!! Kind of embarrassing and funny, I always thought Hells Kitchen was just the name of a TV show with a very good Chef host, I like the show where he cooks with his children, so cute!... Thanks 👍💕😁...clearly I'm not from NY
Went to Hell’s Kitchen when I visited NYC IN 2012. Loved it. Went to see the former 596 Bar of Westies fame. I need to return to NYC it’s just my favourite place on earth. There is no other place like it.
Congrats for the video and your work man!!! I remember I had a good philly cheese-stek at SHORTY'S in Hell's Kitchen; I recommend you to visit this place if you don't know....Greetings from MILANO-Italy!!!
About 10 years ago, my sister had a friend visiting with her daughter (some function in NYC), she gave her friend 5 or 6 kid friendly places to go eat in midtown...My sister lived in Nyack, so she checked in a few days later, friend is all "oh, well, Jenny wanted chicken nuggets, so we just went to Applebees... Ann has not spoken to her since. Great video. Getting my 2nd Vaccine next Saturday!
Absolutely fabbbuulous video share this week---could have watched 30 minutes easily !! Would love more content about this area and all areas that are still REAL NY!!
Where I always stay!! Love it! Just perfect location to get anywhere. I miss NYC so much!!!! Hope I can get there again soon and would be even better to meet you!
Another A+ neighborhood video!!! I’ll be in NYC next week for a few days and you’re making it very difficult to narrow down my list of restaurants and neighborhoods to walk around while I’m there.
Hey, find a "guide" to show you around Westbeth and explain the history of "artists" housing and the impact of residents of Westbeth on the West Village. Fascinating story.
I lived in Hells Kitchen for the past decade - also on 43rd and 10th (clearly Billy has some added time on me), but I totally disagree with his take on current crime in Hells Kitchen. It's gotten really quite bad. So much so, I left the neighborhood in August. 44th and 9th has turned into a pretty open-air drug market. 43rd is often littered with needles and isn't uncommon to find human feces on the block. 50th/10th near the Skyline has gotten really out of control. Half of 9th Ave is boarded up, vacant retail spaces. The issues in HK began before the pandemic - this wasn't due to COVID, and bail reform has really exploded crime in the area. There seems to be a shooting or stabbing nearly every night in HK these days. A quick glance at Citizen or the NYPD crime map will show you just how bad it's gotten. HK now has a higher crime rate per resident than the South Bronx/Brownsville/East NY, etc. I was on the same block as Billy, right on 43rd and 10th for a long time, and I have no regrets about leaving the neighborhood. I miss it, but what I miss is the old HK. I'm well aware of what HK was in the 80's and 90's, my Step Dad lived on 55th in the late 80s and has plenty of stories, but it is not the same neighborhood I moved to in the early 2010's. It's gone downhill from those days, big time, and it breaks my heart seeing what has become of it. That said, Schmackarys does have the best darn cookies in the city. Definitely miss living near that.

Every New Yorker needs that noise! When I use to live in queens I couldn't sleep because it was so quiet.
If you want quiet, go live in Muncie, IN. If you want LIFE, live in NYC!
Oh, yes! Any NYC neighborhood my daughter has lived in, she has always depended on her city noise to sleep..
You got that right. 👍👍
I stayed in a hostile right next to tracks in BK and it was very soothing and helped me fall asleep each night very fast. Unbelievably. Hahah.
Well Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson certainly seem to like it there

7:46 "Hey! I'm talkin' here!" Love it!
I go thru Hell's Kitchen every time I see a show at Terminal 5, I think its one of the best spots in NYC along with Tribeca

My favorite Cafe for espresso and macarons. Love the the new machine ice cream too
Back in the day I worked at the Mcgraw Hill building so I've eaten at the Westway diner millions of times. Glad to see that she's still going.
