Unfortunately, Jack sold the trailer, so we are kind of out of touch with how it's holding up. In the time he still had it... the tape was holding up really well!
Awesome! Great upgrade. I’ve always had a 12v DC system with battery and a power converter on my campers but never did solar. Maybe #3 will get some solar :) Great work Jack! Love the clean installation.
Thanks Eli! Always a good feeling to go on a trip and know when you get there the refrigerator is still running cold! Can't beat solar! (not yet anyways!)
3:03 What cordless drill did you use there? That cut like butter... or rather drilled like butter... LOL I"m impressed. I have a lot of tools since I "Flip" RVs... but never bought a cordless drill, I'm not sure why I haven't... strange. I'm really impressed how strong that drill is...
Great video, just a quick question. I have my shoreline powered all ready to go on my 7x14 cargo trailer, next is my solar. I already have a 30amp and 1500W inverter, and 12v battery. I would like to get a 200W solar panel to used for lights, and charge my laptop. no tv, but would like to get a 12v cooler to use. my question is will a 200W solar panel work? or do I need more watts?
Hi Charles! I think what you have will work. Think of the solar panel as a battery charger, 200 watts will keep the battery charged pretty well. It will all depend on how much power you use, then you might have to think about another battery. The solar panel generates power, but if you don't have someplace to put it... doesn't matter how big or how many panels you have. You'll need to figure out how much power you will be using then go from there
Have seen other vids where the panel seem kinda thin like stick on type so I see why your wire would have come around and down on the out side of your trailer but seems like the one in this video has kinda of like a platform would it be possible to run the wire underneath The panel straight into the trailer?
Thanks for stopping by Ezequiel! Absolutely, the wire could have run straight through the top of the trailer, but we didn't want any holes drilled in the top and have to worry about leaks latter, so we chose to run it down the side as seen in the video. Work out really well and we think it looks great as well.
Gave a great peace of mind if the 3M adhesive gave out... The idea wasn't to save the solar panel as it was to save the car that might be following you! :)
Hi Isaac... the windows are 18 x 24 purchased at Affordable RVing in Portland Oregon. They do have a website you can check out. I believe you can also find them on Ebay. Hope that helps! Thanks!
@@OregonBatman Good to know... but (I feel silly asking this question)... I love eBay... and would love to buy them off eBay... but what do I type to find these kind of solar panels... is there a certain name?
@@judichristopher4604 Well.... my buddy Jack decided to move after a year of owning the cargo trailer and sold it. But we had many trips in that time and it held up great! Nothing moved cracked, or fell apart. Only thing I think he would have done differently was to use a different type adhesive on shower walls, it had bubbled in a couple spots due to poor adhesive... other than that... all good!
No... generally plugged in to shore power until ready for a trip, then the inverter is turned on. Once at a park and plugged in, the inverter is turned off. So mainly, it's only on when traveling
So far... holding up. The added security of the straps means even if the VHB tape fails, panels won't be going anywhere. Things are still tight though! Jack ended up selling the trailer, and the person who bought it still reporting all good. Thanks Ron!
@@OregonBatman YES... Isn't that the truth. I used to have a Hot Shot Business in the Oil Field... and prayed nothing would fall off... or fly off... and it never did. Thank you Sweet Jesus. I'm really excited to know about the VHB double sided tape... That is a gave changer.!!! Good to know
You know, once a neighbor decides to go green, they tend to snub their nose at neighbors who aren't. Do I foresee another video coming for your trailer?
Unbelievably light and strong trailer.... after the build, still came in at only 1750 pounds. 250 pounds lighter than the 6 x 12 trailer I built (and has a shower!).
wow that's a big project and great idea...having a trailer that you can get your own power from Solar is very ingenious...Excellent video project...
How is the solar panel mounting tape holding up so far? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Thanks.

Thank you Bobby! Jack is finally back in Boston now and hopefully... he's wearing Oregon shirts! :)
Lol boy that's going to be exciting for whomever is behind it in tow
THAT... is why we created the safety straps! No excitement here! :)
Satiety lanyards with copper jugs? How do you get the lugs on tight enough to ensure safety?
We used a hydrolic press to secure the lugs to the safety lanyards... pretty solid

It is almost a year later, how is the high bond double-sided tape holding up?
Jack sold the trailer in August 2019, at that time (summer) was still holding strong.
Hey MR Batman what size windows are them? Where did you get them?
The solar panels are 24" x 36" made by ZAMP Solar. They were overstock and sold for $100 each. Thanks for watching!

No need for all that. Just use 3/4 self tap screws with GE clear 7x 100% waterproof silicone under the plates and you’ll be good

@@OregonBatman that's wonderful to hear as I too dislike holes in my roof and plan on going with VHB for my solar panels. Ty very much for the reply.
You got it! The VHB tape is pretty strong stuff! But... never hurts to build in a little safety measure, just in case! :) No holes, no leaks!

Last I heard... it was holding good. Jack sold the trailer so I lost track. The safety lanyards are in place, so IF it failed, not going to fly off!
