Three things I know about Rudy's life outside Magic:
1. He used to work in the bond market business.
2. He currently works in some sort of restaurant business.
3. He sells goldfish to larger fish.
Conclusion: Rudy is running a restaurant where he sells goldfish to Wall Street sharks.
Makes sense
We are the goldfish
Mtg goldfish 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
he doesnt work in restaurants now. He met his wife in a restaurant back in the day.

A lot of truth to that if you understand it

I wish Rudy was my highschool economy and personal finance teacher. I've learned more from him in one video then an entire year.
it's economics, not economy.... (and econ is BS. I should know.) I teach it :-)
@@mtgow4902 Why is it BS though? = )
@@mtgow4902 You assume teachers know how to properly word class names. The educational system is broken.
@@tygonmaster I didn't assume that. You assumed that I assumed that. But you're right. It's so broken, it scares me.
@@emileriksen2481 @Emil Vang well, perhaps not completely BS... interesting model, theories, etc... but never forget, it's 'all a fugazzi'
The elephant in the room with collectibles. You buy at retail, you sell at wholesale. You bought a bunch of Beta Tropical Islands whenever. They go up some percentage so you decide to unload them. You call Creepy Rudy and say "Hey, these cards are valued at $369.69 each, how about it?" Rudy's response, "I'll give you 60-70% of that value" take it or leave it. That difference could take away any appreciation you might have thought you gained on that investment. Best case scenario, you might get a little profit, or a lot if you are really lucky. Worse case you lose a little or a lot of money. MTG collectors are always saying their collection is valued at so and so, good luck getting that price when you try to liquidate it. So you say you can liquidate them slowly on Ebay, a few at a time. Sure but what about your seller rep, are you established? Shipping and insurance, returns, scammers, etc. How quickly do you need the money? Good luck with that. Stocks, bonds, gold, real estate, you pretty much get the listed value at the time, minus a couple of percent for handling, broker's fees or whatever, and the transaction can be completed quickly (a little longer for real estate) on any given business day. The other problem is the MTG invest market is very small even insignificant when compared to the NYSE, NASDAQ, bond markets, precious metal exchanges, etc. There are only a few people out there capable of or willing to drop 10s of thousands on an MTG collection.
If you love MTG and have money to burn, go ahead and invest in it. In my opinion, for most people it isn't a very good idea.
Definitely a good consideration. If he's got 20Gs plus 1k per month, just buy index funds and rebalance. Unless you have lots of time and want to open your own business / real estate investment. But if you do that you will be married to your new job, so you'd better love it.
Invest what you know. Do you have a better educated guess on Beta Timber Wolves then you do a blue-chip phama company? Then bet that. Transaction costs are just part of the collectibles market, have been for years, you either sit on it for awhile if you can afford it, or you take a hit to cash out, any schmuck who watched Pawn Stars could tell you the same. I accidentally deleted a longer more drawn out response, but that's the core of it.
@@cjwynes You are agreeing with what I said. My problem with it is Rudy and all of the collectors out there always talk about the retail value of the cards and that gives the impression that that is the readily available amount you get for selling them. People go to sell their 'valuable collection' because they see videos on RUclips, and then they are surprised when they get significantly less money than they think they will. In any market, there is plenty of ignorance and very few savvy investors. MTG is no exception.
Rudy was and will always be a salesman. He talks a good game but he plays too many mind games. I would trust Rudy with cards, I am not saying he is dishonest, but when he says things in his videos, he is often bending the truth or twisting things in a subtle way. Rudy as much admitted that he is fucking with peoples's heads in his videos. Too bad there are many ignorant and young people watching that hang on every word and think Rudy is some kind of MT god. Rudy was great when he first started but his success here has gone to his head and now he is playing to the crowd and playing games and often being just obnoxious. Rudy knows MTG, he knows investing, but in the end, folks need to realize this YT channel is first and foremost for entertainment. Just my opinion, YMMV.
@@edstuff1198 Sure, you shouldn't invest in *anything* if you don't know how the market works, how the transactions work, the cycles that affect prices over the course of a year, etc etc. A lot of dopes are out there investing in stocks based on crap they see on RUclips. All I'm really saying is that if you DO know MTG already, and you want to make money with it, you'll have a better shot than trying with anything else. I've probably spent 1000 hours of my life reading, watching, and absorbing MTG market knowledge without even being a dealer, just from my position as a player-collector with some disposable income. I'd be completely lost trying to make money in stocks or bonds, or commodities (which are mostly lousy even if you know 'em). I agree a novice shouldn't run out and invest in anything based on a YT video. You and me prob aren't the target for these vids. There's likely a group of people who aren't total novices but aren't total experts who may get something out of MTG Finance advice columns, I still rather enjoy Sigmund Aufstresser's stuff b/c he's old school focused.
@@cjwynes I pretty much agree with all of that. My biggest fears of MTG investing are the market is relatively small and there are far more liquid investment vehicles out there. There is money to be made, no doubt about that.
Best video so far imo, thanks. Keep em coming
Agreed these help enormously.
Last time I was this early, Rudy wasn't Creepy.
He was also speaking Russian
The last time I was this early was when I lost my virginity.
You are so intelligent and confident, yet seem so sincerely humble.
This was amazing advice. Thank you.
Thanks Rudy! This feels like genuine, good advice - your videos help bring an experienced and level-headed view of traditional markets and investment assets and its great, keep it up
Watching this in 2021, im glad i bought my house when this video came out
Pogs. This guy should invest in Pogs. They can only go up from where they are.
agree and visors with my little poney on them
I mean you are not wrong. Useless things can only go UP in value
Been watching your videos for a long time now, this is my first post on any of your videos. I just wanted to say, this was an excellent video my friend. Keep up the good work and great advice.
Rudy is giving great technical info on avenues investing, and a general overall context....but he doesn't say enough about do all of this with a grain of salt, meaning: stay the course/disciplined, but don't make this your #1 priority in life. The #1 priority should ALWAYS be cultivating and maintaining mindful moments EVERYDAY that life is fleeting, and that the future for us is not guaranteed...that we have to be fully aware that each day is an end it itself. So, make THAT #1.....what Rudy is saying should be #2.
Otherwise, it turns into a miserable existence, that isn't satisfying or sustainable...and that, frankly, results in the loss of all worthy purpose and meaning for the wealth sought.
This has been one of my favorite videos of yours ever - I view casual Magic cards as my "treat" at the end of the day only after I feel that all of my investment wheels are greased. Really nice to have you here in the world Rudy!
Great video. You've made it.... all the ads were about investing.
I really like your take on building wealth! Thank you.
Theres a level of discouragement in these videos that I love. Its not discouragement because you don't want people to invest or start a business, its real talk laying out the hard realities of these roads to success. The long distances and discipline required, the harsh realities you face trying to scrap a living and grow financially. Knowing the challenge helps you accept it, and if we can get over those hurtles it may just work out.
excellent video Rudy. I love these kind of videos. Keep up the good work my friend.
Wow. Magic brought me to this channel 2 months ago. Look at battle bonds now...
Great video that will never go out of print.
Being house poor buying a rental property is rough, but much more doable when you are young. My wife and I even bought a property and rented it for less than the mortgage, property taxes and insurance (within $500 per month even at the beginning). Within 5 years, we had broken even monthly (rent to expenses) and created wealth (only appreciation right now). In a decent region, you can raise rent each year, which we have and now have a positive income stream. It worked for my wife and I, but not sure if everyone can do the same. We even kept the home through the 2007+ recession and we are glad we did. I prefer real estate over MTG, but MTG is easier on the wallet at a few $100's every few months.
These types of videos are the best and more engaging you produce. Keep it up!
Great advice towards the end of the video. Nice one Rudy!
Fantastic insight. The bit on bond rates was interesting and I'll have to look into that.
Great video, Rudy! I know a lot of people see this as a comedy channel, but it truly feels like in the end you care about the people watching and want what is best for them! I will be using some of your advice here. As a 24-year-old who is about to graduate college with very little debt. Videos like these help me plan for my future.
Came back a year later...and so much for fed interest rates goin up. we came down to 0 real quick.
10:45 oh, you have no idea
_"Rudy! Where do I to start?!"_
_Ultimate Master_ boxes! Can't go wrong with those.
Awesome video Rudy. Thanks for giving me a better perspective and quality entertainment.
Thank you for your video. The topic you're talking about is very important and I think most of the young people don't know about it.
every time you release a video about investments I think its the best video so far... I haven't even finished this one yet and I am already thinking that!
Wow I love these financial rudy videos. Like you said this is just entertainment and people should understand that, but I love this because it's your perspective of finances. Your word isn't god, but it's a perspective and it's just nice to listen to you or others perspectives to make ones opinion.
I hope more of these videos come out. I love your magic finance talk and all other finance talk you give. Please don't apologize for the long video as finances, at least in my mind, can't be milled down to a simple 5-10 minute talk. Even this video at 25 minutes is obviously not long enough to get into real strategy but again it's just nice to gain a little perspective.
Thank you for such a nice video I hope more of these continue to come out.
Great video, especially about image not being important. I'm not far off in age and lifestyle and it's bang on. Well done! Now open more UM!
Don't underestimate the cost and time investment involved with developing rental properties. 1. You are better off getting a house in shitty condition, but in a decent area, so you have to have some construction skills. 2. Being a landlord is a pain in the ass. Things go wrong unexpectedly, tenants cause damage to your property, they don't pay rent and you have to hire a lawyer to evict them, they have disputes with other tenants that you have to resolve, etc. Buying a property and renting just to break even on your mortgage is not a good investment, especially if you have a full time job. 3. If you have the skills to renovate houses in disrepair, you're probably better off doing a regular flip. I'm managing a rental property that I currently live in, and I plan to sell as soon as I move out. I just had to cut a hole in the ceiling to fix a clogged drain that my tenant failed to tell me about.
I love these long form videos. They are awesome. I love having creepy Rudy chatting to me for my entire drive home
I felt like this video went by so fast even though it was on the longer side. Great video and Happy New Year! :)
LOVE THESE, learn something every time, wish there were more videos like this
You should have an investment seminar. I have learned alot on these types of videos
I haven't played magic in years..maybe a decade. I wasn't sure how I found this guys channel, or why I watched his videos... But this shit came full circle w/ this one. I
holy cow rudy!! best vides ever! thanks! i am new to MGT after watching you for sometime now and now i got myself a power 9 set unlimited all bgs 9! thanks
Really glad the first thing Rudy mentioned was to have an adequately sized emergency fund before investing in much else.
Really good advice starting at 20:55
But cars can be collectibles too lol
Thanks for these types of insightful videos Rudy.
Giggity.
Good Stuff, Rudy. Seriously, thanks for the challenge to be disciplined & focused. This particular segment is my favorite on your channel. Keep up the good work!
Fantastic video Gigdity cubed!
Rudy stop making me think for the future of my life.., I just want to enjoy my taco in my little taco world...
Thanks for your videos it's really entertaining and this story is just exciting
These are the steps I took to become a millionaire before I was 30. Magic and real estate! I bought a rental property from the profits I made selling 200 transmute artifact. Wheel of fortune is next!
Best video yet! We are the millionaires next door.
Love the video. My friend Timmy is still standing in the corner wondering about how many cards do new Arena players, and converts need? I told him stfu and stand in the corner with that negative jibber jabber. He says he's wondering if there's any update to the "I don't care position" on "Future of Card Games Magic Arena vs. Pokemon vs. Final Fantasy vs. YOUR WALLET
?"
He man hope youre doing well. Happy new years to you and youre family !!!
Nice Branch out Rudy. Entertainment from you is better than unsleeved.
Love it when Rudy talks about investments like this. Learn so much.... And... My taco refuses to go floppy
Loved it Taco boy would love to see these types of videos!!!!
My extended family gave up on gifts a few years back, make the holidays 100x better.
Holy dog crap, this is the exact situation I am at. Rudy answered it
Great video Rudy I like this series a lot.
Loved this! It’s very interesting! I like serious Rudy! 🌮
Best video of the year; I appreciate your honesty in this one! A+++
Thanks for the advice rudy! i just bought 500 cases of roaring skies.
What I hear the most here, is that need to split your money between different forms of investment, but what split would you recommend ? THe classical 1/3 1/3 1/3 ? Where3 you get 1/3 in real estat, one third in safe long term investments (in older times they often recommended gold for this third but I think today there are better options) and /3 in risky "junk" bonds ? Or would you recommend a different split ? And why would you recommend that split ?
Last but not least, how to split my money within each category ? Especially the junk bonds, do I concentrate one 2-3 I think are considered worse then they really are, or do I split it over 20-30 different bonds ? If I use so many different ones, how do I properly research so many of them ?
Great video. While I like the magic vids, this is definitely what I'm subscribed for.
Thank you my friend for making me find the spark to really take investing in magic seriously.
Father Rudy and the Temple of Financial Monkhood. Great video.
Awesome as always. Creepy Financial Advisor vids are where it's at.
How would you start investing in MTG if Sealed Products were out of the question? Prices in my country, or rather what it would cost to import the product are so high you'd probably start behind. What do you think?
Love this series! Great video Rudy 👍🏻
Now, that was a good video. The economy is in a weird place right now, Main Street and Wall Street are moving in opposite directions. It's a good time to own collectibles as a part of a portfolio.
creepy financial advisor vids are my favorites!
25 minutes of Rudy? I'm in...or he's in.
Very insightful, thanks for the advice!
Perfect video thank you ! Once a month is BS. I want it daily creepy Rudy ..
ROFL..."....where I sell goldfish to larger fish..." had me cracking up.
Right now is the time to invest in Crimson Invasion!
And steam siege !!!
Nah...you're all wrong. It's time to invest in Pokemon Pogs.
BUY BUY BUY ( oДo)
did not expect that. thank you rudy. #realtalk
Its 2021 and the printer ain't stoppin its gonna keep printin! Inflation?! Never heard of such a thing!
You know, I don't care about MTG too much, played it 2-3 times back in 96 and somewhere hidden away there's a deck I bought from a friend. I enjoy these videos the best, and your savvy attitude and analysis. I've been coming back for months.
Man, I would love to thumbs up this video multiple times. Rudy, you are doing god's work. More power to you!
You are amazing Rudy
Respect my man, respect.
Used to own 2 1993 Supras at the same time...5 spd N/a and 5 spd twin turbo....man I made some mistakes further down the road...because neither are owned by me anymore-.-
The Wand chooses the wizard Mr. Potter.
So much real talk here. My only fear for Rudy is that he goes all in on magic, sells his property, his stocks, his precious corporate bonds, when the magic market collap... I mean has a REALLY GOOD buying opportunity... and truly becomes the Dumpster Fire King.
"Buy munies with credit." - Rudy when I get out of law school in a year and establish myself as the top floppy taco litigator in the area, I'm going to come thank you personally for this piece of "not financial/tax advice."
Awesome advice!
I'm the Timmy in the basement that bought an R32 GTR Skyline when started to make real money. At least my house is a 15 year loan with 12 years left on it.
Great vid!
Rudy you are awesome. Thank you for the great advice.
Rudy love that you do these type of videos keep it up brother
Been following the last few months. AMAZING CHANNEL and its like I'm watching a cooler version of my cousin who looks identical to you. Like I think you would flip at the sight of this Timmy. Started watching EVERY ONE of your videos in chronological order. Your story is destiny... URZA's Destiny!! XD
Just getting back into MTG. Now that Iam older and never owned a video game console after the PS2, I have an old nostalgia itch from my past. However brief it was. Antiquities, Unlimited, revised (only when Unlimited cards in NM aren't available) Alliances, and all 3 URZA's blocks are what I've been fondest of. Old cards. I wasn't around at the beginning. I quit MTG in 2000 after only playing in 6th grade bc i was too young to appreciate or really just understand the game. Plus, it was cooler to be a "skater boy" (shout out Avril Lavign) I only had like 2 friends that played it. I turned 30 on the 21st - Mayan doomsday date ; )
I've bought strictly reserve list singles from Card Kingdom, only in NM condition (I want a complete Antiquities and Urza's block's Reserve List Set. Also been buying booster packs of Alliance's and URZA's block from only established sellers on ebay. Ive been on ebay for over a decade, so quite attune on how to choose the right sellers. So far, every pack passes the eye test after a good WIGGLE AND TIGGLE. YES , I SAID WIGGLE AND TIGGLE.... Thanks for the term Rudy ; ) If they were repacked all this time when I go to sell them in 20+ years, so be it. I got them lying flat in Ziploc bags and stored in a cool dark place. And my binders hanging so the pages dont get pinched. People want the sealed product.
LONG LIVE THE RESERVE LIST!! and S.W.A.G: Silver, Wine, Art, Gold... not a wine drinker but its about tangible wealth.... cardboard canvas's (MTG cards are ART)... and a little thing called: blockchain Large part of why 5G is being ushered in. Giggity!
really great video rudy thanks!
Love these bro
I LOVE these financial vids! Plus the blowing and dictating... i love it!
15:16 Rudy! All I want to know is what the next Reserved List buy out is going to be, so I can strategically place my money and capitalize. C'mon! Help a brother out!
good stuff, thanks Rudy
This was a nice lecture. Useful.
Thank You Rudy this was excellent
I truly love the creepy investment videos
I'm an attorney who does a LOT of collections work, and a HUGE portion of that is for rental properties. Please do not assume you will actually get paid on your rental property, there is an enormous amount of renters who end up having to go through eviction proceedings. You will pay me or somebody like me hundreds of dollars just to get them out, and then pay me again 50% of the judgment for back rent and damages to have some college kid skip-trace the renter and issue a garnishment, if they're even working. Real estate for rent is a terrible business for somebody with a small roll and a few properties, do NOT get into it unless you have a huge bankroll and can eat up the cost of a failed rental, I'll gladly profit from your mistake but it's a mistake.
Killin it Rudy! Keep it up!
Hello there, 2019-Rudy. How're those interest rates looking in 2022? We were not ready for what was to come in 2020 🙃 what a ride
