I solved the problem of raingear 12 years ago when I bought my Aerostich Transit suit. In 49 years on two wheels and just reaching a million miles, it is the best piece of gear I have EVER used. Waterproof leather, fantastic armor, reflects UV, has good ventilation. I wear Gore-Tex boots always, so at most , all I need to do is change gloves if it starts to rain - a 30 second process. Some folks balk at the fact that it is leather, but I'm OK up to about 90 degrees F. And yes, it is pretty pricey - but if something happened to it, I'd buy another without hesitation.
I always carry rain gear. I took a month long trip from DFW to Nova Scotia. It rained 20 days out of 28. I am talking very hard rain. GOOD rain gear is critical, for your comfort and safety. If you have to travel in rain, make sure you have good rubber on your bike. Some tires handle wet pavement exceptionally well, while others, you just take your chances.
I ride whether it’s raining or not so I do have rain gear. When I see rain in the distance I find a safe exit and pull over to Don my gear. I only stopped once after it started raining to Don my rain gear and swore to never get behind that 8-ball again. It’s always more comfortable being dry under the rain suit than being wet under the rain suit. I refer to that as having a bad case of swamp ass.
Hey Cruiseman you as well as all GW riders should always be ready I am fairly new to GW I am riding 2018+ and from the beginning of ridding you should always be ready for most situations that might occur I recently watched your tools to travel or ride with video and the only thing that I was missing was the jump box and tire inflator, guess what not anymore. Yes I carry rain gear on my 2018+ GW and I am a all year round Winger the coldest day thus far was 22 degrees. The cam video was great. Keep videos coming.
As far as rain gear, I always keep such gear in the right saddlebag: rain coat, pants and boot covers. Everything folds up nicely, leaving room for other items.
I don't intentionally ride in rain and don't plan rides when a lot of rain is in the forecast, but I do keep rain gear with me. In a case like you showed with a random pop-up shower, I would have just road it out since you are already a little wet and close to home. The rain gear is more for when I know in advance that I may encounter it. Godspeed
I carry rain gear all the time and rain does not stop me from riding. I have been in too many thunderstorms but it's hard to avoid all of them when going X Country. My wife as a co-rider enjoys riding in the rain.... figure that out. Have a '19 DCT Tour now with about 27K miles on it. I just got a Insta360 X3 and learning to edit. Have had a GoPro 2 for about 12 years and decided to try something new. I mount mine on the right handle bar via RAM Mount. Will use the "invisible stick" next recording to get some distance from me.
Cruise man I do like the 360 camera but I have looked and looked for the review on the scosche battery jumper an air compressor and also a battery maintainer wire that connects to the scosche wiring
I never ride in the rain! I like my bikes to look like new, but they are just so difficult to clean if they ever get wet...so many nooks and crannies! Also, bike parts, fasteners, bolts, etc, just seem more susceptible to corrosion in my experience. Of course, here in the UK, it rains a lot, so the downside is that I don't get out as often as I would like, but that's the price I pay to avoid hours cleaning. And the old knees can't take it these days!
Hello. The 360 camera was fine. Only time will tell if it worth the extra edit time. My cold weather gear is waterproof, however for my summer mesh I carry rain gear.
I film all the time with an Insta360 One X2, and I mount mine to the handlebars, pretty much right where you had yours positioned. I sometimes move it to other spots on the Goldwing too using a suction cup mount. I love the One X2, it's a great camera and it hasn't given me a single problem in almost two years of filming.
I have a Klim Latitude Jacket and Klim Badlands Pant which are Gore-Tex lined and completely waterproof. For around town rain as you encountered in this video the jacket is all you need. I always have my rain gear on (Klim) and don't have to carry extra rain gear that does not breathe. When my girl and I encounter rain we simply close our front vents and keep going, No stopping to put on rain gear.
Thumbs up on the video quality. I keep my First Gear rain gear with me at all times. If I am local I try to plan around the rain. If I am tripping on the bike I gear up and ride thru the rain ( as long as its not a horrible storm) I wish you would make a recommendation on a camera for average guy riders that just want occasional video like maybe on vacations or interesting rides. I have no interest in motovlogs but I would still like to video sometimes, thanks
Rain riding, I try to avoid this. The heavier the rain, the more I want to remain in place and watch it leave. Being retired I get to choose my riding weather. And as you well know that is subject to change if traveling with others who have a timeline they aren’t willing to sacrifice. When I got the ‘22 wing tour, I immediately got a rain suit. It keeps me dry while traveling on in inclement weather. That’s no big deal, the worst is cleaning the bike thoroughly !
360 cameras are great. Many vloggers are starting to use them. You need to pull yours up. Maybe you can contact AndyManCam to get some tips about the use and post processing. Sure we ride in the rain. There's something in it... Not in a pouring one but a normal steady rain. Even riding thru the wet snowflakes (the ones that don't accumulate on the road) is exhilarated. Like moving thru space... Preferably to have a waterproof or goretex gear instead of the on-off-on-off exercises with the rain gear. But in the summer the raingear is also in the panniers. A very small space consumed Revit rolls.
Because I commute and just am on long rides, I get caught in the rain often. I really check the weather from several sources but sometimes it is wrong. I do carry Frog Toggs on the bike at all times and can slip them over whatever I am wearing including my riding suit. My riding suit has a rain liner so that when I know that I am getting rain for a long distance I can install that before the ride. I just put the mode into Rain, put on the rain gloves and motor on.
Nice views from the new camera. When you dub in sound later there's no wind noise. I carry or wear 3 types of rain gear or water replant gear depending on the season. I've wondered about wearing a wetsuit under riding gear. Thanks for all you share.
Pop off the cover for the tip over bar...it's a tube I think. Also check in with Max at Traxxion..he's prototyping topics and maybe that's a bigger bar? Frogtogs over gear.
Frogtogs for riding in the rain. Used to wear rubber boot covers, but boots don't get that wet on my 2018 (or previous GL1800). I hate riding in the rain, but if I get stuck in it, I polish my boots with shoe polish containing wax.
Hay cruiseman no rain rides for me anymore in my golden years. If I'm already out and run into rain then I'll carry on with rain gear. That being said I have boat loads of experience with riding in rain.
Love the camera. Cant wait to see more. I'd prefer not to ride in the rain unless I'm on a trip or panned ride. If thats the case I do carry rain gear. My traditional gear will suffice in a small rain shower. Wet gloves just suck same with feet/boots. No other way to describe it.
Wait, 360 degree views in any direction? How is that possible? Lol You might try out the Tascam DR05X for separate audio recording. It'll be interesting to see what you come up with for mounting the Insta 360. So once you get it downloaded, how much computing power does it take to edit it?
Good video Chris. I think the Insta360 is a nice camera as far as the output goes. I like to see the different camera angles that they offer. Someday I may buy one myself but I have a long way to go with just learning first, how to use my GoPro and Akaso at the same time. When it comes to riding in the rain, I only use rain gear if I am riding long distance and the forecast calls for extended rain. Otherwise, I just use my riding jacket and full face helmet and that’s usually sufficient. On hot days, I actually enjoy a little moisture to cool off.
I also ride all year round and I keep rain pants and jacket with me at all times and they are easy to put on I am able to put them over my riding gear I actually dont use traditional motorcycle rain gear I actually bought the pants and jacket at dicks sporting goods so its light gear and I can easily put on over my riding gear takes less than 60 seconds to get it on
I’m still not sure about the Insta 360. I think, judging from your footage, that the video quality is slightly inferior to the GoPro. It’s cool that you can get so many different perspectives from one camera, so it definitely has its place. I’ve seen low light, time lapse video from friends who own the 360 camera and that camera seems to do a very good job at that. I’m very tempted to buy one, but I would also have to upgrade my computer, for editing purposes. That’s not in the cards right now. I’m interested to see what you do with yours and hear your thoughts. Keep up the good work.
As usual, another great video sir! Probably my favorite RUclips channel. I got the notification just in time, winding down the day. The video quality looks to be the same to me, and I like the ability of being able to pan the view around. Other than switching back and forth. But my apologies for being antiquated because I don't use/subscribe to any other social media platforms. The old man syndrome I guess! Riding in the rain is part of the life. But I always get grumpy when I ride, when the weather forecast would only be 20-30% chance of rain, right after I've detailed the bike, and that black rain cloud develops over my head. Always my bad luck when the bike is nice clean, and shiny. And is the SENA helmet working out pretty good? Thanks again!
360 camera is ok, but I don't think it adds anything to the motovlog. Maybe on a scenic ride somewhere where there is something to see, but I would vote for the GoPro for your normal vlogs.
I am not smart enough to know how not to ride in the rain ☔ and I am usually on a motorcycle that will literally drench you ☔ Conservative + motorcycle = wet ⛈️ Love from Mississippi USA 🇺🇲

Frogtogs over gear.
Great video the low light looks good and love the 360* . I ride year round and keep rain and cold weather gear with me at all times .
Yes Chris, like the camera. Anxious to read the rain comments. That's always been my weak link. Maybe you can do a video on that subject some day.

greetings from Minneapolis Minnesota, the 360is really good and as for ridding gear i ride with Aerostich all weather gear.

Lovely camera results 😍 your camera has put another life in your vlog. Good 👍 job
Greetings from the PPRC, I don’t ride in the rain on purpose but sometimes it just can’t be avoided so just slow down and enjoy the ride.🇺🇸🏍

Video looks good even in low light. Try not to ride in the rain but inevitably it happens. Rain suit in the saddlebag.

Living in the UK you go nowhere without waterproofs "on or in the bike"
I switch to RAIN mode and roll on with my normal gear. 🎉
Use rain gear keep riding

What jacket are u wearing in this video? Where can I find it?
It is an Olympia, and unfortunately, they are out of business.
Too bad the camera isn't bluetooth for your Sena helmet mic otherwise I liked the video it produced.
I like the new video device 👍

Avoid riding in rain

You and I have the same luck.
