    Here in the UK we are seeing very little coverage of the aftermath of Helene. Our news is dominated by events in the Middle East and home-based politics. Your footage is so important to help the outside world understand the extent of the devastation and the overwhelming impact it is having on the lives of people there. There is so little we can do to help but our thoughts are with you and I hope all the family, friends and neighbours you are worrying about are ok.
    Watching your videos has made me realise once again how dependent we have all become on our utilities, mass communication networks and 24/7 access to retail and how so many people exist in little bubbles of oblivion never believing anything can go wrong. There is so little resilience built into our systems and our lives in this modern age. My pantry is very small by American homesteading standards but I’m pretty sure it is better stocked than most of my friends and neighbours. We have enough to see us through a few weeks rather than a few days if the worst happened.
    Please keep posting if you can find the time, your testimony is important. I hope the situation improves soon. Take care.

      Just an FYI, this storm system impact was 600 miles long. That is the same length as the base of the UK to the north point of Scotland. This storm was massive and catastrophic.

    • @saltymr6105
      @saltymr6105 Месяц назад +7

      Keep trying to build up your own preparations and independent systems. The less you're dependent on the gov system, the more freedom and time you have to respond to any emergency that comes your way. Instead of being under full control and whims of the gov system. After initial food and water preps, build up a small battery storage and solar system. Once you see how dependent everyone is, you'll never go back to being blind and dependent on the gov.

    • @mantleofelijah
      @mantleofelijah Месяц назад +1

      I’m in the UK too and the lack of news on the mainstream media is shocking. I think it’s because our media is so left wing and they don’t show anything that might reflect upon the democrats badly. Which is crazy as this was out of anyone’s hands. Plus the govt don’t want us prepping for these things ourselves, which we should be doing.

    • @greenquartz
      @greenquartz Месяц назад +1

      That's great though. Every little bit helps. I feel the same, I'm nowhere near homesteader caliber, but we could pull off a few weeks now. I've found little hacks too, like life straws for clean water, and compressed towel pellets in case toilet paper runs low, emergency medical packs (Jase, Wellness, and Duration health are the only ones I know offhand, but you can search for more.) These can be expensive though, so it's tough. But at least it's an option now. I think just building up our skills will help us too. That's where I'm trying to focus more now.

    It was heartwarming to see how the kids all pitched in. I would not be doing that in bare feet though! Lil' Miss Rhodes is tougher than me - I'd be scared to step on some metal or glass or any other awful thing washed in by the creek.
    I'm glad that you are all safe, health wise. There will be a lot of rebuilding needed, but for the most part I know you all feel so very blessed that no one was hurt and that your homes were saved. May blessings continue for you and your loved ones, friends and neighbours.

    I live near the Oregon coast and emergency prep include preparation for the "big" cascadia earthquake and tidal wave. One thing we have to consider is "islanding" of the communities when roads/bridges fail. This winter we had a mock islanding event with an unusual ice storm...trees falling everywhere, no power etc...something to think of is the older people in the community who are on oxygen generators...know your neighbors and their needs. ❤️🙏

    It's unimaginable what people are going thru. Thank you for looking out for your neighbors. I'm thankful for your homesteading community. Don't forget to take care of yourself. You've got a lot ahead of you. ❤

      Those boys are both very hard workers and problem solvers. I quit watching the Rhoads channel a long time ago. Got tired of the kids having to get the job done while dad watched his watch so everything was on his film schedule.

    Documenting this is very important, the media coverage is abysmal.

    Art thank you so much for bringing us along while you help your friends and neighbors. I feel so very helpless knowing there's not a lot I can do, but I pray for you all. Please keep us in the loop so if there are things we can help with you can let us know what is needed and where. Blessings to you all.
