Hello Dan, I'm using Bookstack and it's working great! Today I use it in a school, but there is one thing that is missing to be perfect. I wonder if it would be possible to show in the audit log that a viewer user read that page? Thus, there would be no way for students to lie that they read/viewed the page.
Hello and thanks! The audit log is primarily for tracking activities that cause changes. Tracking all "view/read" operations would add a lot of noise. There is technically a "views" table which tracks rolled-up per-user view data to provide the "Recently viewed" functionality, but even if we exposed this information I feel it would still not solve the problem of students lying.
@@BookStackApp Perfect, Dan! even if the students lied that they had read that page, I would have a justification for them "but here it is saying you read it", I would not be held responsible for not having passed information to the students. The responsibility would be entirely theirs.
Great software... one idea regarding tags: it would be great if template pages included any assigned tags, such that the insertion of the template in a blank/existing page would import the tags from the template page.

Thanks Sara! To delete tags you just need to edit the item they're on, open the tag edit interface for that item (Sidebar for pages, slide-down for others) then click the red "x" on the right-side of the tag edit block.
I don't have a simpler tutorial of general usage at this time, but I'll keep it in mind as a video idea. You could always play around in the demo instance to get a feel for things: demo.bookstackapp.com/books/bookstack-demo-site/page/logging-in-to-the-demo-site Just keep in mind it resets every half hour.
Hi Dan. Have just started moving our platform doco to BookStack - copying and pasting from Word docs. Just wondering if you have any tutorials/info on managing image files in BookStack. I have many screen shots (that don't paste in as part of general copy and paste) but do if I do each one separately. I'm guessing there is a better, correct way to manage images? Can you use the same image in multiple places and only update one to update all? Thanks in advance!
Yeah, Copying and pasting images from word can be a pain, Last time I checked Word did not provide it's content (With images) in a way we could use easily. You can use the same image in multiple places, you just need to use the image manager, accessed via the image icon in the editor toolbar. You'll be able to see images uploaded to other pages in the system.
Hi Dan, i`m asking myself if it is possible to have a rights management within bookstack. In my case it would be a MUST to give permissions to specific user groups to special books or shelves. Is there a way to implement this?
Sure, role-based permissions is a core feature that's been part of BookStack for a while. Keep them at the book level for easiest management. Book & chapter permissions auto-cascade to their contents. Shelves can have permissions but they won't auto-cascade (Due to the many-to-many relation with books) but they can be copied to child books. These can be accessed/managed via the "Permissions" action when viewing any shelf/book/chapter/page.

It's great but just come across a few queries: Just wondering if there's a way to continue numbered lists after adding an image/screenshot? It keeps setting back to 1. The content I've pasted in from Word is fine though, just writing new content directly in BookStack. In a similar vein, it doesn't seem to support sub-numbered lists (a,b,c or i, ii, iii etc.)? The images seem to be auto-condensed and can be quite blurry in the page, but clear if you click on them to open in another tab. I'm guessing that's standard behaviour? Thanks in advance - so appreciate the advice!
- You can include images within a list by dragging it into the correct place but layout it does get awkward. They should generally not appear blurry but that could occur depending on many factors (Customizations, exact image type, display type etc...). If needed, you could choose to edit the image (By clicking on it then clicking the image popup icon) then removing the "scaled-1680-/" part of the "Source" input box.
