If they morph on their own, okay, but you shouldn’t be putting them in conditions in order to try and force it on them. That will make things worse.

They’re all salamanders. It’s just they’ve evolved to never leave their juvenile form, but still sexually mature. When exposed to iodine they also complete their lifecycle for some reason.
the iodine stimulates a gland in their brain which makes them undergo metamorphosis. same with tadpoles , remove all the iodine in water they will stay tadpoles forever
@@elijahthompson1120 For an analogy think of frogs. Their life cycle is egg, tadpole, then frog. They go from having gills and being stuck in the water to having lungs and being able to leave the water for brief periods of time. Axolotls are the same. They are born from eggs, have gills (which are the feathery parts on their face), and then they lose those gills and go on land. However axolotls have evolved to not reach their final form. It’s like if a frog stayed a tadpole forever but still was able to reproduce. That’s what axolotls have evolved to do.
They actually look scary after morphing. This is so sad that someone would get an animal they can't properly care for and keep it until it literally changes form or dies. Smh.
Well they a lot people do know how to take care of axolotls, but people also impulse buy them. It can morph because of genetics or because someone forces it too.
Understandable or not it's far from "unfortunately" as she called it. Being able to adopt that fast is everything but unfortunate. That's some real life superpower sh*t
Some axolotls also carry a morphing gene that sometimes causes them to morph into a terrestrial. There are multiple reasons axolotls morph not just because they are ill.
@@OgSpeef damn bro you failed biology as I can see, basically axolots are amphibians sort of and they don't evolve naturally into salamanders actually they don't even evolve at all since they don't have the need for it as they don't have any natural predators so they just stay in that phase where they are almost immortal and never grow old but they can adapt to their environment as you adapting to be a piece of shit because you don't get any females
Just a disclaimer, even though axolotls CAN do this, doesn't mean they're meant to. It is extremely painful to the axolotl, and can reduce its lifespan to 2 years max. (Axolotls live up to 15 years if kept in proper conditions) if you want an animal that can morph, just get a tiger salamander.
Yeah this just sometimes happens. Doesn't have to be in poor living conditions at all. In fact, the small wild population of these critters actually do it too now. They were bred with Tiger Salamanders to increase their numbers and chance of survival.
I didn't make the rules of what was and wasn't supposed to happen when whoever crossbred those animals together. Just trying to educate on what I know. Been told that they aren't in pain when this happens. It can literally go through full metamorphosis in as little as 2 days. Not trying to argue with someone though
This is flat out wrong in regards to an axolotl. They only turn into salamanders under extreme negative conditions, any keeper that allows this or propogayes it is abusing the animal, and they will only do it in the wild under extreme, life threatening conditions. They'll usually die shortly after this change as theyre not optimized to live that way in their natural habitat
For anyone that wants the best of both worlds, get a tiger salamander. You can buy them in their “larvae” stage when they look like dark colored axolotls but they naturally become terrestrial as they grow. Personally I think tiger salamanders are just as cute
This is what I found on Google to give a touch of more context for this. "However, occasionally the Axolotl can morph into the land-based adult form, a change thought to be caused by hormonal changes which can be instigated, for example, by excessive iodine levels in their water tank".
@@k1tkattx360 why do you think its painful? its a salamander after all, no reason to think just for this one that its painful, unless you think its painful for all animals that have methamophosis

Monster Rancher and Dragon Quest Monsters are also wonderful!
Honestly this is why that trend of forcing your axolotl to turn into a salamander is so cruel. You literally have to neglect and abuse them so badly for this to happen
I don't see the point in purposefully shortening an animals lifespan just for views and because it looks "cool". People should stop doing this. #savetheaxolotls
Hi! I study morphed axolotls (salamanderwithasign) and I can tell you that this is actually a myth. Poor care, stress, and bad feeding habits are what causes their lifespan to be shortened. I've actually met people who have kept them on dry woodchips for example and then wonder why they only lived for a few months. "Oh, it must be their natural state." Nope! It was just tortured to death with poor care. I've met some that have lived for 10 years or more with proper, diligent care. :)
If they’re exposed to a specific hormone as well they can change into that which is technically their final form since they are amphibians and most grow amphibious animals like frogs naturally grow out of that middle stage which axolotl don’t
@Hyper shadow the hedgehog well it's not normal or healthy. It's a mutation that destroys their gills and shortens their lifespan. Axolotls are not supposed to lose their gills.
There seems to be some confusion in the comments, so lemme try to help! A true axolotl is neotenic and will not become terrestrial for any other reason than poor living conditions. Axies crossbred with tiger salamanders can become terrestrial due to suppression of the gene, but as far as I know this is also uncommon. I don't know what percentage of axies sold are results of this crossbreeding, but because metamorphisis is still uncommon in the axie keeping community, I would say not many lol Metamorphosis is super stressful and will shorten the axolotls life span, so do not ever try to elicit that response‼️
It is 100% a myth that axolotls only morph in poor living conditions. I am truly shocked at how many people in the comments are pushing this bit of misinformation.
Bump this comment, so many people are ignorant fucks who do think it's cute to torture these magnificent animals. They'll just get another when it stresses to death. So sad.
An axolotl IS A SALAMANDER. It’s just specially adapted to not continue the full process of the metamorphosis. Why is this, well it’s because the gland which releases the hormone for metamorphosis doesn’t release the hormone in them, if the iodine levels get to low the axolotl is then forced into a condition where to survive it releases the hormone but due to the lack of iodine the created is then in a condition it wasn’t supposed to be in and it often dies. It’s a rare even naturally but in captivity can be causes due to poor maintenance.
Hi, I study and rescue morphed axolotls (salamanderwithasign) and I just want to say that this is actually not what happens in MOST all cases! I've been interviewing owners and, as I said before, researching what causes this and the biggest answer is genetics. I've actually never met anyone in my studies (outside of verified labwork) that has caused their axolotl to morph VIA "cruelty." In the pet trade, it happens because of a faulty genetic line. We are currently thinking that it might have something to do with hybridization with other types of salamander (tiger salamander and andersoni are big ones) thus creating a recessive gene that causes axolotls to morph as they near "adulthood."
@@salamanderwithasign2501 I've heard some things about a certain chemical - which i will not name in an attempt to keep people from harming their pets - aiding in the process of axolotl morphing. Do you have any thoughts on that, or is the axolotl line genuinely so far removed that it can only morph via genetic contamination?
Yeah, amazing how stupid people are to think thats special at amphibious animals, especially larves which axolotls are The only thing which makes them „unique“, they never get into their final stage (like frogs) so from a health standpoint its just better to let it allow life in water only without any metamorphosis to a land animal, they have just a great life underwater
Its not really evolution, Axolotls are essentially tadpoles that don't (most times don't at least) grow up. Why do I know this? I was bored at 3Am and got curious. Edit: If you want to talk about fast evolution, talk about squids. They can adapt within a few generations
They are it's just they are not in their full adult form usually because where they are from there was no need to leave the water they do that rarely naturally it's either bad conditions or they were exposed to iodine that caused it to evolve
Axotals have no reason to ever fully evolve into a salamander and it can even cause them to reduce their life span because its something they due to survive a negative enviroment
This pokemons evolve conditions: to have a axolotl (land form) you must not use your axolotl (water form) for over 500 battles and you must have negative friendship stats😂😂
This video is lying please do your own research before taking something as fact. But! If you give an axolotl a specific chemical they will start metamorphosis
Axolotl doesn't metamorph to salamander by poor conditions. It actually can't naturally, because it doesn't produce hormone that does that. In order to metamorph Axolotl into Salamander, you need to artificially inject iodyne or thyroxine.
An amphibian who can undergo a triggered changed and "become" another amphibian....could you truely say that they are seperate creatures? Wouldnt that imply a much closer relationship between the two than previously defined?
@@ChrM1694 literally every amphibian can undergo triggered change and become "another amphibian", except for axolotl, at least naturally You see, frogs, toads, and salamanders that Though they don't become separate species Once a frog, always a frog They just underwent a series of metamorphosis before being mature Eggs, tadpoles, tadpoles with legs, young frogs, and matured frogs are all frogs, and will always be frog no matter the form Axolotls are unique because they are the only kind of salamander that does paedomorphosis They live in a poor environment where food and water are scarce Sometimes even Iodine which is necessary to produce thyroxine, which is needed to reach maturity is also scarce So they do paedomorphosis, allowing them to breed before reaching mature state, unlike other salamanders that need to be full-grown to breed And yes, axolotls are closely related to salamanders, because axolotl is a part of the salamander group Axolotl is just one of many species of salamanders
@@theotheseaeagle It depends, definitely never force it, that's unhealthy no matter what, but some Axolotls still morph without poor conditions, just rarely. And it definitely is interesting from a biology point of view, but not cool that people do this intentionally to make them morph

This is what I was going to say. They also don't live long after going through the metamorphosis.
When you say “complete their lifecycle” do you mean they die?
the iodine stimulates a gland in their brain which makes them undergo metamorphosis. same with tadpoles , remove all the iodine in water they will stay tadpoles forever

This is flat out wrong in regards to an axolotl. They only turn into salamanders under extreme negative conditions, any keeper that allows this or propogayes it is abusing the animal, and they will only do it in the wild under extreme, life threatening conditions. I've actually met people who have kept them on dry woodchips for example and then wonder why they only lived for a few months. "Oh, it must be their natural state." Nope! It was just tortured to death with poor care. I've met some that have lived for 10 years or more with proper, diligent care. :)

technically it's caused by an excess of iodine, but it still shortens the lifespan of the axolotl drastically
Disturbing fact would be better for this
They mature dip shit
If they’re exposed to a specific hormone as well they can change into that which is technically their final form since they are amphibians and most grow amphibious animals like frogs naturally grow out of that middle stage which axolotl don’t
Your right
However its abuse because it reduces their life span by a huge margin and its incredibly stressful.
So you can activate the hormone or put it in the water and they'd naturally change in the same clean environment as they were as axolotols?
@Hyper shadow the hedgehog well it's not normal or healthy. It's a mutation that destroys their gills and shortens their lifespan. Axolotls are not supposed to lose their gills.
If I remember correctly they need a Iodine rich environment to fully mature. However their natural environment lacks Iodine.
I don't know what percentage of axies sold are results of this crossbreeding, but because metamorphisis is still uncommon in the axie keeping community, I would say not many lol
Metamorphosis is super stressful and will shorten the axolotls life span, so do not ever try to elicit that response‼️

@VISOR literally what
@VISOR I had a stroke reading that
An axolotl IS A SALAMANDER.

@@qbek_san no, no you don’t have to inject chemicals into them. they simply change their bodily features to adapt.

Eggs, tadpoles, tadpoles with legs, young frogs, and matured frogs are all frogs, and will always be frog no matter the form
Axolotls are unique because they are the only kind of salamander that does paedomorphosis
They live in a poor environment where food and water are scarce
Sometimes even Iodine which is necessary to produce thyroxine, which is needed to reach maturity is also scarce
So they do paedomorphosis, allowing them to breed before reaching mature state, unlike other salamanders that need to be full-grown to breed
